Anthony Joshua tells Jude Bellingham what to focus on after criticizing England’s behavior
Published
8 months agoon
Anthony Joshua has told England and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham to ignore the criticism heaped on him. The former world heavyweight champion urged the 22-year-old to focus on football after suffering a setback during the international break.
Bellingham has dominated headlines amid ongoing debate over whether he should be included in England’s squad for next year’s World Cup. The midfielder was accused of reacting badly to a substitution during the 2-0 win over Albania. Bellingham is said to have not taken well to Thomas Tuchel’s decision when he was replaced by Morgan Rogers in the latter stages, and was also left out of the starting XI for the victory over Serbia that secured qualification for the World Cup.
Joshua was in Miami to watch his return to boxing when he faces YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 15. The 36-year-old enters the bout with Polarizing American on the back of his fourth career defeat following a loss to Daniel Dubois last September at Wembley Stadium.
The former heavyweight was asked about his opinion on the current criticism towards the footballer. Although he didn’t get drawn into this sizzling topic because he didn’t know the ins and outs of the situation, he did give the 22-year-old his advice. Joshua said, “Talk to me… What happened to Jude? Why.” [Shouldn’t he be included in England squad]?
“But why? I’m not really sure what’s going on with this situation, but everyone has their own personality. If he doesn’t want to talk, that’s his business, if he wants to talk, if he doesn’t, I don’t understand exactly what’s going on, I don’t follow football, I follow fights.
“What? Negative? The most critical thing he needs to focus on is going out on the field, representing his country and doing a good job. It doesn’t matter what you say, that’s what we need to focus on, he probably just has tunnel vision that most people don’t understand what it takes to be in Jude Bellingham’s position.”
“Jude Bellingham is under a lot of pressure every day of his life, it might be one of those days, one of those years, but let’s let him do what he does on the pitch, that’s what we have to focus on.”
Former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright has joined the debate, staunchly defending Bellingham. The footballer-turned-pundit has claimed that England are “not ready for a black superstar”, referring to recent criticism of the former Birmingham City academy star.
He said: “I had to do something for GQ recently and I said as an Englishman that I am English, I can’t hide from that. Although when I was younger people said, ‘You’re not entirely English’, yes I am English.” I don’t think they’re ready for a black superstar. Who can move like Jude [Bellingham] is moving. They can’t touch it. He goes out there, performs, does what he does, asks, “Who else?” It’s too conceited for these people.
“Let me put it in football terms. Everyone loves N’Golo Kante. He’s a humble black man, he does what he does. I’m not saying he’s an Uncle Tom or anything, it’s just his personality. But if you get [Paul] Pogba or Bellingham and you get the kind of energy that people don’t like. Such a person. So someone like Jude for some reason scares these people because of his abilities and the inspiration he can give.
“It’s something you’re taught as a black man when you go out there. You just want to give it your all, keep your head down. And be, for lack of a better term, a humble fucking slave.”
“It comes from that kind of energy. Because if you’re straightforward and black and you’re playing at that level and you don’t care, that scares some people. That’s what’s happening with Jude. This guy is obsessed with him. He’s moving away from that kind of energy. He can’t see a black man doing what Jude is doing and not think that’s not cocky. That he’s not a cocky n***a. I’m going with that. That’s what it comes down to.”

Lewis Crocker vs. Liam Paro – large fight preview and predictions

June 23, 2026
On Wednesday, Lewis Crocker heads to Australia to defend his IBF welterweight world title against Liam Paro for the first time.
Crocker will face Paro at the Pat Rafter Arena in Queensland, live on DAZN in the UK and Kayo Sports in Australia.
Crocker (22-0, 11 KO) became world champion in September, defeating Paddy Donovan twice before winning the rematch by split decision.
Man from Belfast recorded his second victory over Donovan after the first victory in March last year, and his rival was disqualified for hitting him after the bell.
Paro (27-1, 16 KO) is trying to become a world champion in two weight categories, having previously reigned in the super-lightweight division.
The 30-year-old won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Subriel Matias in Puerto Rico before winning the belt in his first defense against Richardson Hitchins.
The Australian has since won twice, overtaking David Papot in his last appearance in September.

McKean meets Taliva
Heavyweight Demsey McKean will look to continue his rebuild when he faces Liam Talivaa for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title.
McKean (24-2, 16 KO) had his career cut miniature after a last-round loss to Filip Hrgovic, followed by a brutal first-round loss to Moses Itauma.
The 35-year-old southpaw returned to winning ways with back-to-back stoppage victories.
Talivaa (8-2, 4 KO) last won the IBF Oceania-Orient title, defeating Faiga Opelu by first-round stoppage.
Undercard remaining
At cruiserweight, Luke Modini (13-0, 11 KO) will likely need distance to beat Peng Qu (17-2-1, 12 KO), while Riley Candy (8-1, 5 KO) could stop Nathan Watson (11-3, 3 KO) at super middleweight.
Vegas Larfield (13-1, 9 KO) can hand Shamal Ram Anuj (11-8, 8 KO) his fourth defeat in a row in a featherweight clash.
Heavyweight Nelson Asofa-Solomon (2-0, 2 KO) can secure a third straight knockout over debutant George Burgess, and Stevan Ivic (8-0-1, 2 KO) can do the same against Caleb Tialu (3-7, 3 KO), also a heavyweight.
Prospective super welterweight fighter Jack Javed (1-0) should overtake Lance McDonald (1-5-1, 1 KO).
