Candidates Cintia Sánchez and Keyla Jiménez will face each other on May 19 in Madrid in an invigorating fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) youth minimum weight championship. This fight represents a great opportunity for both fighters to elevate their profiles and move one step closer to the elite ranks of the 105-pound division.

Sánchez enters the competition determined to impose her disciplined and tactical style. Known for her hand speed and wise outside boxing, she will look to control the pace from the opening bell. Her game plan is expected to be based around a constant left jab disrupting her opponent’s attacks, combined with edged footwork and effective counter-attacks to bank runs on the scorecards.

Meanwhile, Jiménez proposes a completely different approach. The fierce challenger is known for her physical strength and constant pressure. She is not afraid to move forward, excels in close-range exchanges and will look to wear down Sánchez by cutting off the ring, forcing action and attacking the body with hefty hooks in an attempt to weaken her opponent’s mobility later in the fight.

If Sánchez can maintain distance, execute his jab correctly, and move freely around the ring, he may be able to control the action throughout the fight. However, if Jiménez can break down the defensive barrier, force constant exchanges inside and impose her physicality, her chances of leaving Madrid as the novel WBA minimumweight youth champion will escalate dramatically.

Contrasting styles and a prestigious title have all the ingredients in place for a fascinating battle between two emerging talents looking to make their mark on the international stage.

Bermúdez defended his WBA title for the first time against Alegría – World Boxing Association

Published

on

Argentine champion Evelin “La Princesita” Bermúdez will make the first defense of her WBA airy heavyweight championship this Saturday at Caribe Royale in Orlando, where she will face unsafe Mexican challenger Estefany Alegría in a fight fueled by the long-running boxing rivalry between Argentina and Mexico.

Bermúdez enters the fight with extensive championship experience and a skill set that has made her one of the standout fighters in the division. The Argentine titleholder has excellent hand speed, a pointed left jab and the footwork necessary to impose distance and pace during fights.

“La Princesita” understands that the key to retaining the black and gold belt will be to maintain composure, side-boxing and precise counter-attacks as Alegría tries to reduce the advantage.

Meanwhile, Alegría arrives with great ambition and the warrior mentality that has long defined Mexican boxing. She is a physically sturdy and strong player, copes well with constant pressure and rarely gives her opponents a moment to breathe.

From the first round, the challenger is expected to aggressively press forward, cut across the ring and force Bermúdez into exchanges at close range. Alegría’s strategy will likely focus on attacking the body early in the match to limit the champion’s mobility as the fight approaches the second half.

The key to the fight will be who manages to set the pace.

If Bermúdez can control the action from long range, control the clock and consistently make his opponent miss, he will put himself in a sturdy position to keep the title on the scorecards. However, if Alegría can break through the Argentine’s defense and land stronger shots inside, the possibility of a fresh champion emerging at 108 pounds becomes a very real possibility.
