Vergil Ortiz Jr finished Saturday’s breathtaking clash with Jaron Ennis after defeating Erickson Lubin in two rounds in Texas.

When Lubin (27-3, 19 KO) was pinned to the ropes, Ortiz Jr (24-0, 22 KO) unloaded with a series of combinations, and “The Hammer” was stunned, the referee waved his hand and stopped the fight.

Ortiz Jr. defended his interim WBC super welterweight title and immediately called for a fight with Ennis, who was watching the fight from ringside at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.

“Boots” called out to Ortiz Jr., following his own one round of demolition of Uisma Lima last month to capture the WBA interim super welterweight crown, and the pair faced each other in the ring and exchanged words, building anticipation for one of the most sought-after fights in the sport.

“Boots come here,” the 27-year-old said.

“I think this is a fight that has to happen.

“I think this is it.”

Ennis replied: “This is the best fight in boxing.

“He did a great job, he looked good.

“But I’m going to show the world why I’m the best in the world.”

Ortiz Jr, fighting for the first time since February’s unanimous decision victory over Israil Madrimov, marched toward Lubin in the opener, connecting with head and body combinations.

Lubin, a former WBC world title challenger who came into the fight on a three-fight winning streak, had some success himself in the first round, taking off on his back foot and landing mostly with the jab.

However, a round later, the 30-year-old’s resistance stopped after a series of blows from the home favorite.

If the Ennis fight doesn’t happen, Ortiz Jr will be ready to fight WBC champion Sebastian Fundora, who was forced to withdraw from his scheduled title defense against Keith Thurman last month due to injury.

Fulghum-Stevens held on for the draw

Darius Fulghum and David Stevens fought to a majority draw in a memorable super middleweight bout.

Fulghum (14-1-1, 12 KO) was looking to bounce back from his loss to Bektemir Melikuziev in May, but his clash with Stevens (15-2-1, 10 KO) never really sparked enthusiasm.

The score of 96-94 in Fulghum’s favor was nullified by two scores of 95-95, declaring the fight a stalemate.

Jones attacks Gamhour

Amari Jones demolished Shady Gamhour with a brutal third-round stoppage in the middleweight bout.

Jones (15-0, 12 KO) knocked Gamhour down with a strenuous right hand, and although he got back up, the defeated Swede was too brave to handle himself and swapped with Jones in the pocket, who caught him with another devastating right hand, forcing the referee to step in.

Vooris Edwards via TKO

American heavyweight prospect Joshua Edwards crossed the second round for the first time in his professional career, scoring a third-round TKO over Zeno Vooris.

Vooris (5-2, 5 KO) was injured after clashing heads, and Edwards (5-0, 5 KO) was in full control, with Vooris taking a corner kick to pull him out in the third round.

Edwards, a 2024 U.S. Olympian, secured his fifth consecutive professional victory after the break.

Safar dismisses Miller

Robin Safar extended his undefeated streak but had to settle for a unanimous decision victory over Derick Miller Jr in a cruiserweight clash.

Safar (19-0, 13 KO) Miller (18-1, 10 KO) seemed to be injured several times, but the American showed heart and stamina to defeat the Swede from a distance.

Safar secured the WBA Continental Americas title with two scores of 99-90 and another 98-91.

Undercard remaining

Eric Priest suffered his first blemish on his record following a split decision draw with Esneiker Correa in their middleweight bout.

The score of 79-73 in favor of Priest (16-0-1, 8 KO) and the score of 77-75 for Correa (16-6-3, 14 KO) were overturned after the third judge ruled 76-76.

Javier Meza (5-0, 2 KO) recorded five professional victories in a row, and the Texas super lightweight defeated Joshua Briones Garcia (3-5-1, 2 KO) by unanimous decision.

Welterweight Samuel Torres (4-0, 3 KO) defeated Ricardo Eliadale (0-2) in the second round, whose corner kick stopped the fight.

Tyson Fury’s immediate reaction to the fight with Anthony Joshua after signing the contract

Published

on

Tyson Fury was apparently left speechless when he finally reacted to Anthony Joshua agreeing on the terms of meeting him in the ring. Joshua has signed a multi-fight deal to make his comeback, starting with a fight against little-known Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia on July 25.

If Joshua escapes unscathed, he will face Fury in November, most likely at Wembley, and the fight will be streamed on Netflix. After the announcement, Fury took to social media, posting only an eye emoji in response. The 37-year-old is currently recovering from his own fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov two weeks ago, which Fury won on points.

After the fight, the former Olympic champion urged Joshua to join him in the Tottenham ring, but his rival refused. Fury claimed he had already signed a contract to fight Joshua, with whom he had been on a collision course for a decade.

However, Joshua has yet to do the same, and his rival has made it clear that if the fight falls through, he will retire from the sport for good.

“If it’s not Anthony Joshua next time, I’m not interested in boxing,” Fury insisted. “I’ll eat a thousand Easter eggs, get to 35 stone and leave, I’m not interested. It’s either him or I’m gone again. Right now I’m only interested in AJ. It’s the most significant fight for British boxing; either it happens or it doesn’t.

“He was brought to the ring for a reason, to enter the ring, confront and end the fight,” he added. “He was very evasive and didn’t give any definitive answers.

“I know one thing, he didn’t say yes.” In my opinion, he didn’t want to smoke. He didn’t look like he wanted it, he was just shocked and didn’t know what to say.

“He came to the ring to fight. If it were me, I would jump into that ring and face him. Ten years of preparation and yet, after all this time, there is still no certainty that this fight will be next.”

“I don’t want to set any deadlines. Either he wants to do it or he doesn’t. It’s now or never.”

However, Joshua has now put pen to paper, stating: “It’s no secret that I’ve taken some time to consolidate and rebuild to be ready to get back into the ring, and today is the next step in that journey. I’m delighted to have agreed a multi-fight contract starting on July 25 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

“I’m looking forward to competing and picking up where I left off. Like I said, the landlord will collect rent, that’s for sure.”

A boxing match turns into a mass brawl when the boxer’s trainer is taken to the hospital

Published

A professional boxing world championship fight descended into chaos when a massive brawl broke out in the ring. Turkish Emirkhan Kalkhan and Russian Sergei Gorokhov faced off in the Besirli sports hall in the fight for the UBO world championship.

The tension reached a breaking point after the second round when Gorokhov secured victory over his opponent. The Russian was overjoyed and celebrated with his corner team before heading to Kalkhan to seemingly check how he was doing against his opponent.

A member of Kalkhan’s entourage then pushed Gorokhov away, before one of his cornermen lunged to deliver a thrust of his own. The situation quickly got out of control as both teams clashed in corner kicks, with spectators storming the ring to exchange punches and kicks.

Plastic chairs were thrown into the ring as a group of men attacked and kicked Coach Gorokhov. The boxer himself was left stunned as he desperately pleaded for an end to the violence before another group attacked him.

Falling to the canvas, Gorokhov was hit with chairs and subjected to a barrage of kicks before disappearing under a wave of enraged attackers. Meanwhile, a separate clip shows Gorokhov’s cornerback Igor Sudalainen lying on the floor and holding his head as security personnel and some of Kalkhana’s team tried to restore order.

After the incident, Gorokhov posted updates from a nearby hospital on social media. Sharing the message via the stories section of his Instagram account, he said: “Hello everyone. We are currently in hospital in Turkey.

“Ismail [trainer] he suffered a head injury and is currently undergoing an MRI. I got through it the least badly. The gloves helped protect me. Who saw the broadcast? “We were probably attacked by about 80 people.”

“They entered the ring and beat us after our great victory in the second round, where we knocked him out twice. However, the Turks behaved very badly.

“But thank God, everyone is alive. That’s what the fight was like, difficult. I’ll tell you later. We already have a police escort, we’ll go straight from the hotel to our rooms.

“I don’t think we’ll be spending the night there tonight. If anyone tries to pull a stunt, we’ll fly straight to Georgia. Then we’ll drive through Georgia overnight to Mineralnye Vody, and from there to Kaliningrad.”

“Thank you all for your support. We will be in touch. I will tell you everything tomorrow. World champion belt – we have a world champion in Russia, in Kaliningrad, in boxing. It was a very good fight.”

Gorokhov then posted another video on Instagram, confirming that he and his team had safely reached Georgia. He said: “We are in Georgia. We have the belt, we are champions. Thank you very much for your support, friends.”
