Shakur laughs at Pitbull Cruz and declares Teofimo the winner

Shakur Stevenson was amused to learn today that Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz said he wants to fight the winner of Shakur’s fight with WBO 140-pound champion Teofimo Lopez in 2026.

When Stevenson moved up to 135 pounds, “Pitbull” Cruz was one of the few fighters he called out without success. Now that he has become fashionable and regularly appears at Turki Alalshikh events, Cruz has changed his mind and is interested in fighting the winner of his fight with Teofimo.

When Shakur called out “Pitbull,” it came after fans booed and heavily criticized him for his involvement in his fight against Edwin De Los Santos in November 2023. Stevenson was even booed after the fight as he returned to his dressing room. The moment he called out Cruz was bad.

Shakur’s “They need me now” moment.

Cruz cares more about the WBO welterweight belt than the desire to fight Stevenson (24-0, 11 KO) and chase him around the ring for 12 rounds.

“They need me now, don’t they?” said Shakur Stevenson on the X program, reacting to the words of Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, who said he wanted to fight the winner of Shakur’s fight with WBO welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez.

According to Shakur, the roles were reversed. He is at the top and can decide. However, he has not defeated any Class A or elite lightweight fighter.

Level A smoke avoidance?

Shakur’s promoters chose him well, separating him from threatening fighters in the division who would ruin his career. That’s why Shakur fought the likes of Josh Padley, Artem Harutyunyan, William Zepeda and Shuichiro Yoshino and not Abdullah Mason and Floyd Schofield.

Stevenson has not said whether he would agree to face Cruz if he defeats Teofimo. However, it is unlikely that he will do so because he has already announced that he will do so “give” the WBO 140-pound belt to his “brother” No. 1 Keyshawn Davis as if it were an item that should be given away. Stevenson wants to move up to welterweight and face Conor Benn in a stadium fight in April in the UK.

Fighting Benn would be a more essential fight for Shakur than staying at 140 pounds and fighting WBC interim champion Cruz.

Cruz must defeat Roach first

“I would like to face the winner of Teofimo vs. Shakur,” said “Pitbull” Cruz media Today.

Cruz still needs to beat Lamont Roach this Saturday night before he can start calling out fighters like Stevenson. Many fans believe he has no chance of winning this fight.
