Oleksandr Usyk still targeting one other fighter despite calling out Deontay Wilder: “I want him”

Oleksandr Usyk’s recent declaration that he wants to fight Deontay Wilder is not the only fight on his mind.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion, who currently holds three of his four world titles, raised eyebrows this week when he mentioned his interest in fighting the “Bronze Bomber.”

With little appetite at the moment to regain the undisputed crown – which would require a fight against newly crowned WBO champion Fabio Wardley – the Ukrainian instead focused his attention on the 40-year-old former WBC champion.

With two losses in his last three fightsWilder shows no signs of rediscovering the devastating form that once made him one of the most risky punchers in the sport.

But apart from Wilder, Usyk is preparing for another career detour. He and his team are currently helping former unified champion Anthony Joshua prepare for his fight against the inexperienced Jake Paul on December 19 in Miami.

Usyk also revealed that he would be keen to aid Joshua prepare for his fight with Tyson Fury if the two British superstars finally meet in 2026.

In fact, Usyk hopes Paul survives the upcoming test and can take on the YouTuber-turned-fighter in a completely different arena, as he revealed while speaking at the WBC Convention in Thailand.

“If Anthony Joshua wants, he can kill this guy. I will pray [for] Jake Paul because I want to fight Jake Paul in the Octagon.”

Usyk has previously expressed a desire to try MMA, and most recently appeared alongside Dwayne Johnson in The Smashing Machine, a biopic about MMA star Mark Kerr.

Usyk will play former MMA fighter and kickboxer Igor Vovchanchyn. Kerr and Vovchanchyn fought each other twice in 1999–2000, resulting in one No Contest victory for the Ukrainian.
