Gervonta Davis' Comeback Fight Plan Takes Unexpected Turn in Latest Boxing News

A major update has been revealed on when Gervonta Davis may potentially return to the ring.

There has been many rumours regarding the future of ‘Tank’ over the past few months, with the Baltimore fighter having not been in action since his controversial majority decision draw with Lamont Roach back in March 2025.

That bout saw Davis defend his WBA lightweight title, but his absence has since seen him named as champion in recess, after a proposed bout with mandatory challenger Floyd Schofield wasn’t able to materialise.

Instead, it appeared that the new frontrunner to face ‘Tank’ was WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney, after the pair were reportedly in talks for a clash with one another.

Haney became WBO welterweight champion with a win over Brian Norman Jr in Novemberand a clash against Davis could have seen ‘Tank’ compete at 147lbs for the first time after previous world title reigns from super featherweight to super lightweight.

Any hopes of seeing that anytime soon appear to have been ruled out though, after Mike Coppinger revealed that Haney’s father and trainer Bill stated ‘Tank’ won’t be ready to return until next year.

“Devin Haney now looking to fight either Shakur Stevenson or Keyshawn Davis this fall, Bill Haney tells me, after he was told by Al Haymon that Gervonta Davis won’t be available to fight until early 2027.”

While boxing fans will be disappointed to have to wait longer for ‘Tank’ to return, possible fights between Haney and either Shakur Stevenson or Keyshawn Davis would still act as major attractions.

Canelo Alvarez Hopes for Final Fight Before Retirement: I Need to Make It Happen

"Canelo Alvarez Hopes for Final Fight Before Retirement: 'I Need to Make It Happen'"

68 fights into an iconic career, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez may just have a few years left in the sport.

The Mexican superstar remains one of boxing’s biggest attractions and is set to return in October when he challenges new WBC super-middleweight champion Christian Mbilli.

It is a belt that Alvarez held up until September last year before he was dethroned by Terence Crawford. Following the unanimous decision win, the American pound-for-pound star announced his retirement, but Canelo continues to make it clear that he wants to run it back.

Speaking to the Ring MagazineCanelo said he would love the opportunity to share the ring with Crawford once again.

“I hope that [Crawford] fight happens again. That’s what I hope, and I think it would be amazing for fans, too, right? For everybody. It’s a big fight. I hope I get my rematch.”

In an interview with the same outlet earlier this year, he was a little more bullish when asked if he was upset that Crawford had retired without ‘giving him the opportunity back’.

“Yeah, of course. I always give him credit, but we need to run it back. I didn’t feel the way I wanted to and I need to make it happen again and it’s gonna be different. I think for him to deserve all the credit, he needs to give me the rematch.”

Despite Canelo’s willingness and the potential mega payday, Crawford has consistently said that he is happy in retirement. It leaves the Mexican to focus on the current challenges in the super-middleweight division, with champions Hamzah Sheeraz and Osleys Iglesias waiting should he beat Mbilli in Saudi Arabia this October.

Crawford took to the PorterWay Podcast with Shawn Porter to label Ennis’ June 27th victory overhyped. While the pound-for-pound luminary praised Ennis’ athletic gifts, he claimed the win looked better than it actually was because nobody expected the green Zayas to pull off the upset.

The real jab came when Crawford analyzed the mechanics of the fight. He pointed directly to the third round, where Zayas managed to wobble Ennis with a clean shot. Ennis recovered to floor Zayas twice and secure the finish, but Crawford insists those defensive lapses would be fatal against top-tier 154-pounders.

Crawford went as far as to state he is ten steps ahead in smarts compared to the young champion, implying he would have dismantled Ennis by exploiting those exact openings. He followed that up with a cryptic social media post telling fans he would keep his comments to himself, though the shade was obvious.

Ennis completely brushed off the criticism. When asked about Crawford’s claim of being ten steps ahead in ring IQ, telling Ariel Helwani, “I don’t care. None of that stuff bothers me. As of right now, he’s retired. What did he say? He said he’s enjoying his retirement, right?”

As for the fantasy matchup that fans keep dreaming about, Ennis is keeping his feet firmly planted in reality. He noted that Crawford is retired and openly enjoying his post-fight life. While acknowledging it would be a massive money fight, Ennis pointed out that there are plenty of other huge fights available at junior middleweight without chasing a retired fighter.

“You could say (there’s dough in that fight), but there’s other big fights out here for sure, too, though. I don’t consider him anything. I don’t even care. I don’t pay him, or none of these people, no mind,” said Ennis about Crawford.
