Frank Bruno predicted Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois: “I wouldn’t bet against him”

Frank Bruno has made his Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois prediction: “I wouldn’t bet against him”

Boxing legend Frank Bruno shared his thoughts on this weekend’s WBO heavyweight title fight between Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois.

Many fans expect this fight to go the distance, and it is aptly advertised as “Don’t Blink.” Despite becoming the IBF heavyweight champion in 2024, Dubois has never fought beyond the 10th round in his 25 career fights, knocking out all but one in his 22 wins.

On Saturday, he will once again fight for the title with another powerful boxer, after he lost the crown to Oleksandr Usyk in July last year.

In Manchester, Dubois will face Wardley, who is undefeated and has never fallen. The Ipswich fan favorite has also won all but one of his competitions over the distance, but has reached round 10 or later in three of his last four appearances, going the full distance of 12 rounds in his draw with Frazer Clarke.

I’m talking to No secondsformer world heavyweight champion Bruno is looking forward to an intriguing clash between arguably Britain’s two greatest boxers and believes Wardley will defend his WBO title.

“I’m not too sure about that [whether Dubois can drop Wardley] because he’s a very, very tough guy and I wouldn’t want to bet against him. Fabio is a very sedate guy, you can see it in his eyes and also in some of his opponents, one of them has his jaw broken and when he punches you, he makes you breakdance and body popper.

“[Daniel needs to] Meet fire with fire, because he doesn’t go there to play. He drops everything with bad intentions. If you want to fight him, you must have bad intentions too.

If he can keep the Daniel we all know at his best, he’ll knock him out for six, but I don’t think he’ll do that with this guy [Wardley]. This guy is a very unsafe guy, very self-confident and you can tell he desperately wants to do well for himself and will do so using the power he has.

Wardley-Dubois will be the sixth heavyweight title fight to ever take place in Manchester and looks to be the best of them.

The Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch is scheduled for September 26

Image: Report: Mayweather-Pacquiao Rematch Eyed for Sept. 26

The Netflix fight is expected to officially count once talks move from Sphere to MGM Grand

Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao are expected to meet on September 26 in Las Vegas. The rematch for both records will count as an official professional fight.

BoxingScene’s Lance Pugmire reported Thursday that two officials close to the negotiations expect the fight to continue later this month after talks moved away from The Sphere, which was originally discussed for September 19.

“Two officials close to the negotiations reported this Boxing Scene on Thursday night that a rematch of the most lucrative prize fight in history will air on Netflix on September 26… Last week, BoxingScene reported that the fight… is moving from The Sphere in Las Vegas, with the Madison Square Garden-owned arena filling its previously scheduled September 19 slot with an Eagles concert.

One related official also told BoxingScene that both camps have already agreed to all terms for the fight.

The original fight at the MGM Grand in 2015 ended with Mayweather winning over Pacquiao by unanimous decision in one of the biggest pay-per-view events in boxing history.

The rematch was originally linked to The Sphere in Las Vegas before scheduling conflicts forced discussion at the MGM Grand later that month. The September 19 date became unavailable after this weekend’s Eagles concert was finalized.

Earlier this year, there were also questions about whether the fight would be treated as an exhibition. Mayweather himself suggested in March that the event might not be made official before negotiations turn into a professional fight.

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 spirals out of control as the first card drops

Published

on

Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 sphere rubble

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 has left the Sphere and the first card on the Las Vegas schedule has fallen.

The rematch was sold along with a date, a location and enough fan hope to keep it alive after Manny Pacquiao’s team staged the Sept. 19 Sphere as the centerpiece of the event.

Now the Eagles have taken the field, the rematch is over and the idea that Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 may never happen has resurfaced.

The Eagles announced modern dates for the Sphere event on September 18 and 19, falling on the same weekend that was rescheduled for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2.

That in itself doesn’t mean the fight is canceled. However, it removes a spot that Pacquiao’s team used as the backbone of the entire field before Floyd Mayweather even confirmed the fight in those same words.

The bullet was a sale

Jas Mathur, CEO of Manny Pacquiao Promotions, previously told World Boxing News that the original plan was to rely on Sphere’s scale, technology and capabilities to transform Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 into something beyond a normal fight night.

“The scope speaks for itself. There is nothing like it anywhere in the world,” Mathur told WBN, presenting the original plan. “When organizing an event of this importance, you choose a place that suits the moment.”

He added: “It’s not just boxing. For the first time in history, a fight of this scale will be fought in the most technologically advanced venue in the world, providing a live cinematic experience.”

It was a sale. Now that selling point is gone.

Uncertainty persisted from the moment the two sides began publicly moving in different directions. Pacquiao’s men pushed through with a fully sanctioned professional fight, while Mayweather publicly only discussed exhibition conditions while talking about a possible return.

Losing the Sphere only makes the gap between rivals harder to ignore.

The first card falls

Fans have been here before with Mayweather. The date is set, the fight is postponed, names, places and money are discussed, and then everything waits for that one person who always dictates the terms.

The frustration is sharper this time because the Sphere wasn’t a throwaway detail. This was the stage on which Pacquiao’s team promoted the rematch as something bigger than just another exhibition-era performance.

This stage now belongs to the Eagles.

Mayweather has already made progress by setting up a separate fight with Mike Zambidis in Greece, leaving Pacquiao behind in a fight that actually has a date, opponent and direction.

Zambidis became the fight that was going on, while Pacquiao remained the topic of discussion.

David Benavidez has also been linked to September 19 at T-Mobile Arena, though it’s not official, meaning boxing could still be a major event in Las Vegas that night – but not the Sphere spectacle that Pacquiao was originally selling.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao's fight ended in a split

House of cards

The danger to Pacquiao’s team is obvious. When Sphere leaves, the tone of broadcasting will change. When the tone of the broadcast changes, the money will change. When money changes, every signature, down payment and condition attached to the contract will come under pressure.

This is how the house of cards begins to collapse.

Mayweather has spent his entire career calling the shots, the timing, the rules and the risks. Pacquiao’s team tried to sell a rematch built around a huge venue and a fully sanctioned fight. Mayweather has never fully agreed with this version publicly.

Now the first card is gone.

Until Floyd Mayweather says so himself, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 is not a fight. This is a plan where we publicly lose pieces.

David Benavidez’s Sparring Partner Names the Fighter He Can’t Beat: ‘There’s Literally No Way to Win’

David Benavidez sparring partner names the one man he can’t beat: “He has literally no way to win”

Following his latest victory, David Benavidez has been linked to some of boxing’s biggest names, but despite his recent success, his recent sparring partner gives him no chance of defeating one potential opponent.

Benavidez needed just six rounds to defeat unified cruiserweight world champion Gilberto Ramirez last weekendwhich makes the monumental 25-pound weight gain seem meaningless as he dwarfs a larger man.

After his impressive results at 200 pounds, fans are now wondering whether “The Mexican Monster” should stay at that weight and face Jai Opetaia, or even consider moving up to heavyweight and fighting for the unified throne with Oleksandr Usyk.

However, Benavidez is committed to fighting unified lithe heavyweight ruler Dmitry Bivol, whether it be at 175 pounds or catchweight.

I’m talking to Fighting the noiseformer sparring partner Andre Dirrell said that this is not a favorable matchup for the “Mexican Monster”.

“Bivol is the final boss, I don’t think so [Benavidez] can beat Bivol. I don’t think there’s anything he can literally do to ensure victory. I’m not saying it won’t be close, I’m saying there’s nothing he can do to win.

“I think Bivol will get ahead of him in terms of movement and the way David chases, compared to how well Bivol moves and punches and his movement, it’s just going to be too much for David. He’s going to try to figure it out, he’s going to be more determined every round and he’s never going to give up.”

“This in turn will give him a great performance against Bivol and he will learn a lot about himself in this defeat against Bivol. That’s the only certain thing for me.”

Bivol is scheduled to defend two of his three major world titles against Michael Eifert on Saturday, May 30, in Russia. His team is in preliminary talks with Benavidez’s players, but priority would be given to a trilogy with Artur Beterbiev if it is on the table.
