Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to lace up their boxing gloves once again to return to the ring this September. The two legendary fighters have confirmed that they will come out of retirement to resume their rivalry in a rematch scheduled for September 19 in Las Vegas.
However, boxing fans will now have the opportunity to see the duo fight again. This is the first professional competition for 49-year-old Mayweather since hanging up his gloves in August 2017 after triumphing over Conor McGregor. The American’s triumph over Pacquiao raised his record to 48 wins, and he moved to 50-0.
He has since competed against the likes of Logan Paul, Aaron Chalmers and John Gotti III in a series of exhibition matches, most recently facing the latter in August 2024. Pacquiao, 47, stepped away from boxing to pursue his political ambitions in 2021, before returning last July to face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios. The fight ended in a draw, and Barrios retained the belt.
The Filipino has a professional record of 62-8-3 and has had eight fights since losing to Mayweather. However, financial necessity seems to be the last concern for either fighter, given their considerable net worth. From February 2026 Celebrity net worth estimates the flamboyant Mayweather’s net worth at £74 million ($100 million), despite his total career earnings exceeding £888 million ($1.2 billion).
Mayweather’s 2015 clash with Pacquiao remains the highest-grossing fight in boxing history, grossing more than £444 million ($600 million). Just two years later, he came out of retirement and faced UFC legend McGregor in a crossover boxing spectacle, for which he received another nine-figure sum.
However, despite his reputation as one of boxing’s richest figures, the American’s net worth is actually less than half of Pacquiao’s. The Filipino, who has also made a career as an actor, singer, promoter and politician, is reportedly worth £163 million ($220 million). Born into poverty in the Philippines, he turned professional at the age of 16 to support support his family.
“PacMan” entered politics in 2010, serving as a congressman and later senator in his home country, while also pursuing a boxing career. Over the course of his professional career, Pacquiao has amassed at least £370 million ($500 million) through fights and various commercial deals.
The Mayweather fight remains the most essential and financially rewarding fight of his career. Pacquiao reportedly pocketed £96 million ($130 million), while his rival pocketed approximately £185 million ($250 million). This made him the second highest-paid athlete in the world in 2015, behind only Mayweather. Pacquiao has also had a successful career in the entertainment industry, appearing in many Filipino productions.
Meanwhile, Mayweather is one of a diminutive group of athletes who have amassed over a billion dollars throughout their careers. He previously signed a contract with luxury watchmaker Hublot and lent his name to Burger King. Mayweather is equally appreciated for his association with Cagau jewelry and promotion of his own TMT Promotions boxing outfit.
