Dzambekov attacks Brusov; Cain Sandoval wins by KO in the final round
Published
9 months agoon
Umar Dzambekov continued his march towards the featherlight heavyweight elite with a chilling second-round knockout over Artem Brusov at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.
The Los Angeles-based southpaw, trained by Marvin Somodio at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym, wasted no time in asserting his dominance in the main event of Tom Loeffler’s Hollywood Fight Nights on UFC Fight Pass.
From the first bell, Dzambekov (13-0, 9 KO) defeated Brusov (13-2, 12 KO) with sturdy shots, defeating the Floridian three times in the first round. The finish came in the second quarter when Dzambekov uncorked a brutal left uppercut that immediately felled Brusov. Referee Thomas Taylor waved before the bell and gave Dzambekov his most explosive victory ever.
At just 27 years elderly, Dzambekov’s combination of poise and menace continues to turn heads as one of 360 Promotions’ most stimulating undefeated forces in California’s power-packed featherlight heavyweight scene. Discussing the immediate finish of the fight, Dzambekov said after the fight: “Something knockout happened when Brusov probably underestimated my strength. The most risky punches are the ones you don’t expect and that was one of them.”
Daniel “Chucky” Barrera outclasses veteran Mario Hernandez
Super flyweight Daniel “Chucky” Barrera (10-1-1, 4 KO) turned in his career-best performance with a convincing eight-round unanimous decision over the robust Mario Hernandez (13-7-1, 4 KO).
Barrera boxed beautifully, using acute counters and smart moves, all the while frustrating the Santa Ana fighter. The judges awarded scores 80-72, 79-73 and 77-75 for the 23-year-old talent from Eastvale, who continues to gain confidence under the 360 Promotions banner.
Backed by a noisy home support, Barrera maintained his poise and precision, dominating from the distance and leaving no doubt that his 115-pound ceiling was quickly rising.
“Sugar” Cain Sandoval stops Rodrigo in the tenth round of a brutal slugfest
Cain Sandoval (17-0, 15 KO) lived up to his “Sugar” nickname, but added some spice with a dramatic final-round stoppage of Filipino brawler Jino Rodrigo (13-6-2, 11 KO) in a spectacular victory.
Led by Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, the Sacramento native traded ponderous artillery with Rodrigo for nine punishing rounds before sealing the victory with a brutal three-punch combination in round ten. Rodrigo hit the deck and the referee intervened at 2:30 of the final frame. At the time of the stoppage, Sandoval had the advantage on all cards – 88-83 twice and 89-82 – ending another devastating performance by one of California’s most risky super lightweights.
Sandoval commented on the complex nature of the fight, saying, “Whatever you do best in the ring, I’ll take it away from you. He threw punches. I adjusted to them. That’s what real fighters do. That’s who I am.”
Roxy Verduzco’s “right hook” dominates Lomeli’s pearl
Undefeated Los Angeles southpaw Roxy Verduzco (6-0, 1 KO) showed off her technical prowess with an eight-round decision over Mexican veteran Perla Lomeli (7-6, 1 KO).
Verduzco, competing in the junior featherweight division for the first time, controlled the action with measured counter-attacks and smart in-ring IQ. The judges twice awarded the score 80-72 and 79-73, and the 23-year-old easily extended her unbeaten streak.
Vazquez starts with a bang
Early in the evening, Jonathan Vazquez (2-0, 1 KO) stopped Antonio Ferrel (0-2) twice en route to a quick stoppage in the first round of their featherweight fight. The Santa Maria native wasted no time in making an impression as the Chumash Casino crowd came alive early.
Loeffler praises sold-out Chumash show
Promoter Tom Loeffler praised the success of the latest installment of Hollywood Fight Nights. “It was another great performance at the pretty Chumash Casino. From top to bottom, this card lived up to the hype,” Loeffler said. “We want to thank the fans for coming out to another sold-out show and everyone who joined UFC Fight Pass.
“We look forward to making Chumash Casino a home for world-class boxing.”

Oscar Collazo remained undefeated and won the WBO International flyweight title on Saturday night with a devastating two-round victory over Neider Valdez.
The unified WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine minimumweight champion improved to 15-0 with 12 knockouts after defeating Valdez three times before Mexico’s corner stopped the fight at 2:35 of the second round.
Making his final appearance at 112 pounds, Collazo showed his strength immediately transferred to the upper division, defeating Valdez from the opening bell at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California.
The Puerto Rican striker repeatedly found a home for his left hand and left no doubt about the outcome before the fight was called off.
“I felt great at 112 pounds. I love this division. In fact, I want to stay here for a long time,” Collazo said.
Knockdowns
Collazo admitted that he had already called for the fight to be stopped.
“After the third knockdown I was basically saying, ‘Never again, never again’. It was the right decision for his safety. His corner was well checked.
The victory added another belt to Collazo’s collection and enhanced his growing reputation as one of boxing’s most invigorating champions in the lower weight division.
Looking ahead, Collazo has made it clear who he wants next.
“The fight with Ricardo Sandoval definitely interests me. I really want that fight. I’m ready for gigantic fights. I’m ready to make history. That’s the fight I want next.”
Sandoval currently holds the WBA flyweight title, making this one of the most attractive fights available if Collazo continues his climb in weight.
The event was broadcast live on DAZN and was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in partnership with Miguel Cotto Promotions.
