David Benavidez vs. Anthony Yarde – Large Fight Preview and Predictions
Published
8 months agoon
Turki Alalshikh is promoting the Night of the Champions event at the ANB Arena in Riyad, Saudi Arabia this Saturday night, and at the top of the bill is David Benavidez, who makes his first defense of the WBC lithe heavyweight title against Anthony Yard.
Benavidez fights in the light heavyweight division where he is scheduled to meet the hard-hitting Yard, DAZN is broadcasting the bill live.
The mammoth card includes four world title fights.
Benavidez (30-0, KO24) won the vacant WBC super middleweight title back in 2017 and defended the belt twice before losing the belt due to missing weight before defeating Roamer Alexis Angulo in 2020.
The Miami fighter will take up an interim version of the title in 2022, defeating David Lemieux to a three-round defeat, and also defended against Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade before moving up to lithe heavyweight, where he scored against Oleksandr Gvozdyk to become the WBC interim champion last June.
He defended in February, waiting for the Dmitry Bivol-Artur Beterbiev fight to end with a points victory over David Morrell, coming off the canvas in the penultimate round, and later that year was promoted to full champion.
His first defense is against the confident Yard from Essex (27-3, KO24), who is fighting for the world title for the third time.
He was stopped 11th after a solid fight against WBO boss Sergey Kovalev in 2019, and was leading on two cards in January 2023 before being stopped by Beterbiev in their unified title fight.
Since then, at the lower level, The Beast has won four times, with his last victory on points coming in a rubber match against Lyndon Arthur in April.
Brian Norman Jr. Fight with Devin Haney
In an intriguing welterweight fight, Devin Haney (32-0, KO15) will move to the welterweight category, where he will try to take the WBO title from Brian Norman Jr (28-0, KO22).
Haney reigned as the unified lightweight champion, scoring points over the likes of Jorge Linares, George Kambosos Jr (twice) and Vasyl Lomachenko, then moved up to super lightweight to capture the WBC title with a masterful points victory over Regis Prograis.

“The Dream” last premiered in May, far surpassing Jose Carlos Ramirez.
Norman is a massive hitter, and after being promoted to full WBO champion, he knocked out Derrieck Cuevas in three rounds in his first defense in March, then traveled to Japan in June to knock out Jin Sasaki in five.
Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez vs. Fernando Martinez
WBC and WBO super flyweight champion Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (22-0, KO15) looks to add a WBA title to his collection by defeating Fernando Martinez (18-0, KO9) for a trio of titles. Rodriguez added the WBO belt to his WBC crown in July, stopping Phumelela Cafu in ten rounds, while Martinez had to relinquish his IBF title to fight a rematch with Kazuto Ioka in Japan in May, winning on the cards after he did the same in their original meeting last July.

Sam Noakes vs Abdullah Mason fight
Maidstone’s Sam Noakes (17-0, KO15) claims glory by beating Abdullah Mason (19-0, KO17) for the vacant WBO lightweight title.
Noakes has been a British, Commonwealth and European champion, but it’s a formidable challenge against Cleveland’s Mason, who is coming off a fifth-round retirement win over Jeremy Nakathila.

He has never gone 12 rounds, but Mason can do it in a shootout over the break.
Undercard remaining
The only fighter to win in 10 rounds is a middleweight, and Vito Mielnicki Jr (21-1, KO12) should remain in the fight for the world title, winning on points against undefeated Nigerian Samuel Nmomah (21-0, KO5).
In six-round fights, Mohammed Alakel (6-0, KO1) can remain undefeated by scoring against super featherweight Jiaming Li (7-5, KO4), and in super middleweight Julio Porras Ruiz (13-0, KO9) can also remain undefeated by beating Pius Mpenda (11-4-1, KO5).
In the only four-round fight, Sultan Almohammed (1-0, KO0) can defeat Umesh Chavan (3-1-1, KO0) in a lightweight match.

June 23, 2026
On Wednesday, Lewis Crocker heads to Australia to defend his IBF welterweight world title against Liam Paro for the first time.
Crocker will face Paro at the Pat Rafter Arena in Queensland, live on DAZN in the UK and Kayo Sports in Australia.
Crocker (22-0, 11 KO) became world champion in September, defeating Paddy Donovan twice before winning the rematch by split decision.
Man from Belfast recorded his second victory over Donovan after the first victory in March last year, and his rival was disqualified for hitting him after the bell.
Paro (27-1, 16 KO) is trying to become a world champion in two weight categories, having previously reigned in the super-lightweight division.
The 30-year-old won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Subriel Matias in Puerto Rico before winning the belt in his first defense against Richardson Hitchins.
The Australian has since won twice, overtaking David Papot in his last appearance in September.

McKean meets Taliva
Heavyweight Demsey McKean will look to continue his rebuild when he faces Liam Talivaa for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title.
McKean (24-2, 16 KO) had his career cut miniature after a last-round loss to Filip Hrgovic, followed by a brutal first-round loss to Moses Itauma.
The 35-year-old southpaw returned to winning ways with back-to-back stoppage victories.
Talivaa (8-2, 4 KO) last won the IBF Oceania-Orient title, defeating Faiga Opelu by first-round stoppage.
Undercard remaining
At cruiserweight, Luke Modini (13-0, 11 KO) will likely need distance to beat Peng Qu (17-2-1, 12 KO), while Riley Candy (8-1, 5 KO) could stop Nathan Watson (11-3, 3 KO) at super middleweight.
Vegas Larfield (13-1, 9 KO) can hand Shamal Ram Anuj (11-8, 8 KO) his fourth defeat in a row in a featherweight clash.
Heavyweight Nelson Asofa-Solomon (2-0, 2 KO) can secure a third straight knockout over debutant George Burgess, and Stevan Ivic (8-0-1, 2 KO) can do the same against Caleb Tialu (3-7, 3 KO), also a heavyweight.
Prospective super welterweight fighter Jack Javed (1-0) should overtake Lance McDonald (1-5-1, 1 KO).
