Conor McGregor discusses ongoing issue of fighter pay

UFC star Conor McGregor has spoken about one of the most prevalent issues in the promotion these days – fighter pay.
This weekend at UFC 329, Conor McGregor will make his return to action when he collides with Max Holloway in a huge welterweight fight. It will serve as the first time he makes the walk to the cage in five years, and many fans have the same question: why?

McGregor is easily the biggest star in the history of mixed martial arts and in addition to that, he has also earned more money than the majority of not only MMA fighters, but also combat sports athletes.
In a recent interview, McGregor spoke about the broader topic of fighter pay in the UFC, given the displeasure expressed by fans and some on the roster.
McGregor opens up on fighter pay
“I'll always campaign for the fighters getting their worth, and I'm very happy with it,†McGregor said during Wednesday's UFC 329 pre-fight news conference. “It's a steady rise. If you ask Max, I'm sure it's probably five times his highest pay. So the boys and the girls are getting there, and I will always campaign for that, and I'll always be happy that I have helped spearhead that.
“As an owner of Bareknuckle Fighting Championship, it kind of puts me in a pickle. I always vouch for the fighters, but I also have a stake in the company. So there has to be some sort of balance. But still, I am a fighter at heart, I know what it takes in this business, and I know without the fighters, there is none of this – not an iota of it. So I'm happy that the money is rising in the fight business, and that we're thriving, and I'm happy to be back, and give it that extra little fuel to its rocket, and off it goes.â€

Shevchenko</a> out due to injury and the title vacant, Natalia
Silva and Cong Wang will compete for the 125-pound championship.
The card also features several notable names, including former
champions Deiveson Figueiredo and Rafael dos Anjos, who enter their
respective matchups as sizable underdogs.</p><p/><h2>Payton Talbott is -575 against former UFC champion Deiveson
Figueiredo</h2>

favorite against Wang (+165). Silva is riding a 14-fight winning
streak and is unbeaten in the UFC, while Wang enters the matchup on
a four-fight winning streak.<p>Payton Talbott enters UFC 332 as the largest favorite on the card.
Talbott is listed at -575 against former UFC flyweight champion
Figueiredo, who is a +425 underdog. Damian Pinas and promotional
debutant Roberto Soldic are also among the biggest favorites on the

UFC Vegas 121 left him particularly shaken.
Felder was on commentary duty at Meta Apex in Las Vegas for the
latest Fight Night. The main event, which was a back-and-forth
battle, ended in frightening fashion as Barcelos appeared to go
limp during a wrestling exchange against the Octagon wall in the
final round. The referee immediately stopped the contest, and
Barcelos was removed from the Octagon on a stretcher and
transported to a hospital.
It was later confirmed that Barcelos was conscious and responsive.
For Felder, the moments after the finish remain unforgettable.

‘I thought he had a heart attack'
Speaking on the “Believe You Me†podcast, Felder recalled his
immediate reaction while watching the medical team attend to
Barcelos. The former fighter was alarmed when he saw a doctor check
Barcelos' pulse, something he said he had never witnessed in
similar circumstances.
“His neck was all clinched up and he was unconscious,†Felder said.
“And it looked like he was — I thought he had a heart attack, off
the bat. Then they came in, and they checked his pulse, which was
terrifying to see. I have never seen somebody that was KO'd, where
they come in and the first thing they did, the doctor put his
fingers right on Raoni's pulse. I was like, ‘Oh, this is really
bad.â€
Felder said the uncertainty continued as Barcelos remained
motionless.
“He was just not getting up and then I'm thinking, ‘Is it a stroke?
Is it a heart attack?'†Felder added. “But if they weren't doing
CPR and his pulse was at least there and present and he's
breathing, probably not a heart attack.â€
Barcelos reportedly remains under medical supervision but has
addressed fans on social media, assuring them that he is doing
well.

UFC Vegas 121 headliner. He was subsequently removed from the
Octagon on a stretcher and transported to a hospital for
evaluation. It was later reported that Barcelos was conscious, and
the UFC subsequently confirmed that he was stable, alert and
responsive.
The Brazilian veteran has now addressed fans directly.
Raoni Barcelos addresses fans after his UFC Vegas 121 loss to
Raul Rosas Jr.
Barcelos provided an update in the comments section of a post on
the UFC Brazil Instagram account.
“Hello everyone, I just want to say to all of you that I’m really
fine and as soon as possible I’ll do a video for you guys,â€
Barcelos wrote. “I promised a great fight and delivered. Thank you,
God and everyone that fought with me inside and outside of that
Octagon.â€
Barcelos' coach, Davi Ramos,
also previously reassured fans that the Brazilian was doing well
while undergoing further medical checks. Barcelos reportedly
remains under medical supervision.
