Carl Froch once again gave an truthful assessment of Conor Benn’s performance against Regis Prograis, taking into account his chances in a potential clash with Ryan Garcia.
“The Destroyer” scored a wide points victory over Prograis earlier this month, appearing on the Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov undercard.
However, despite defeating the veteran at 150 pounds, Benn faced a lot of criticism for the way he handled his affairs.
Considering Prograis announced his retirement shortly thereafter and confirmed injury rumors before the fight, many expected Benn to at least get his fighter out of there.
As it happened, however, the two-time world champion did not appear to be in any real danger at any point, except perhaps in the first round when his right hand went faint.
However, despite this, he almost didn’t set the world on fire over the course of 10 roundsBenn now has a good chance of securing a fight for Garcia’s WBC world title.
The 27-year-old won the welterweight belt in February, defeating Mario Barrios by unanimous decision after knocking down his fighter in the first round.
Benn, as the WBC No. 1 contender, is widely expected to face Garcia in the summer, who has already announced a possible August fight date.
However, Froch said on his YouTube channel: Froch About the fightthat he doubts whether the 29-year-old will survive the third round against Garcia.
“I’ll tell you something: that performance against Regis Prograis was fucking terrible.
“I’m not terrible, but this is a guy who’s talking and screaming about Ryan Garcia right now.
“As far as I’m concerned, Ryan Garcia is crushing it in three rounds in this performance.
“Conor Benn struggled to get the distance and range he needed [against Prograis] – he jumped in with his chin up; he was getting into shots.
“He doesn’t have the strength to punch. What happened to him? Why doesn’t he punch? What happened to him? Why doesn’t he punch [hard] no more? Why isn’t he cruel?
“He needs to tidy up his fighting style and defense. He needs to get behind the punch; he needs to become more of a boxer and a mover.”
Benn has not recorded any arrests since 2022, when his second-round finish against Chris van Heerden, albeit several months later, was followed by two positive tests for the banned substance clomifine.
