Anthony Smith arrested on felony charges for domestic violence, terroristic threats, and false imprisonment

Anthony Smith has been arrested in Nebraska and faces multiple felony charges.

Following an initial report by TMZ Sports, MMA Fighting's Damon Martin confirmed with court records that Smith was arrested on Monday evening at 8:44 p.m. and remains in custody in the Sarpy County Jail.

Smith's arrest record indicates he faces felony charges for terroristic threats, false imprisonment in the first degree, and attempted first-degree domestic assault. Details of the arrest and the circumstances that led to it are not yet available.

In Nebraska, domestic violence causing serious bodily injury is a Class 2 felony, carrying with it a maximum of 50 years' imprisonment. The terroristic threats and false imprisonment in the first degree charges are Class 3A felonies, carrying a maximum of three years' imprisonment plus 18 months' post-release supervision, and up to a $10,000 fine.

A former UFC light heavyweight title challenger, Smith retired last year at UFC Kansas City, when he lost by knockout to Zhang Mingyang. He ended his retirement earlier this year to compete at Jorge Masvidal's Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA event in April, submitting Chase Sherman. Smith also frequently serves as an analyst for UFC broadcasts.

Smith has a bond hearing set for Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. at the Sarpy County Correctional Center.

An earlier version of this story stated one of the charges was a charge of domestic violence causing serious bodily injury, and listed as a class 2A felony, with a maximum of 20 years' imprisonment. This was amended to the attempted first-degree domestic assault charge mentioned above, following notice from the Chief Deputy Sarpy County Attorney on the specifics of Smith's charges.

Kamaru Usman confident he can beat Islam Makhachev: ‘Styles make fights’
Kamaru
Usman believes he is a dangerous stylistic matchup for Islam
Makhachev.

Makhachev put his
Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight title on the line
for the first time against Ian Garry at
UFC
330. While he retained his belt via unanimous decision, the
Dagestani champion was pushed to the limit and had to dig deep.
After his second welterweight bout, Usman claims he can beat
Makhachev if they were matched up.

Kamaru Usman backs his style against Islam Makhachev after UFC
330

While Usman acknowledges the new crop of contenders at
welterweight, the former champ believes he remains a serious threat
to Makhachev.

“There are really good guys coming up that are going to turn into
killers,†Usman said on the “Pound 4 Pound†podcast. “But right
now, being honest with you, with all the styles that I see and the
MMA mathematics… How it works out, I felt that, hey, styles make
fights, I'm telling you guys, I can get that done.â€

Usman was rallying for a title shot against Makhachev when the
latter dethroned Jack
Della Maddalena last November. Even Makhachev acknowledged “The
Nigerian Nightmare†as his biggest threat at the time. However,
Usman's lengthy Octagon hiatus saw contenders like Garry, Carlos
Prates and Michael
Morales overtake him in the pecking order at 170 pounds.

Usman (21-5) lost his welterweight title in a shock knockout upset
to Leon
Edwards in 2022 and lost the rematch the following year. Usman
then suffered a hard-fought majority-decision loss in a
middleweight bout against Khamzat
Chimaev.

The former champ then dropped back to welterweight and returned
after a 20-month hiatus to beat Joaquin
Buckley last year. After unsuccessfully rallying for a title
shot against Makhachev, Usman moved back up to middleweight and
suffered a unanimous decision loss against Dricus Du
Plessis.

“I'm so proud of what I've done in this world and who I've become; nobody's stopping me,†Garry continued.

After Garry's comments went viral, McGregor showed his support for his fellow Irishman.
