Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul – What boxing experts said about the controversial fight

Published

on

Anthony Joshua is ready to return to the ring after his controversial clash with Jake Paul. The former world heavyweight champion has remained inactive since his loss to Daniel Dubois last September.

It has been confirmed that Joshua will face YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul on December 19 in Miami. The fight will last eight rounds and will be considered a professional fight. Joshua stands to receive a lucrative payday after agreeing to the fight, which will be streamed on Netflix despite his exclusive deal with DAZN. Paul compiled a boxing record of 12-1, with numerous victories over former MMA fighters. He scored a points win over Mike Tyson last November and has since triumphed over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. His only defeat was against Tommy Fury in 2023. The YouTube sensation competed primarily at cruiserweight, which gave Joshua a significant weight advantage over his relatively inexperienced opponent. Here, Express Sport takes a look at what several boxing celebrities have previously said about this fight.

Darek Chisora

“If this fight happens, someone better go to jail. AJ will kill him, it’s not fair. Someone has to go to jail,” said former heavyweight title challenger Chisora No seconds.

“Right now, Jake Paul will be watching the last fight AJ had [with Dubois]and he’s going to jump on him. That’s the point [how] AJ deals with the man in front of him. Whatever happens, it will be electrifying.

“He [Paul] he doesn’t have the power to knock out Joshua. Jake Paul returns home in the ambulance [after that fight]”

Joseph Parker

“AJ was a great champion when he was champion. And if he’s solemn about boxing and solemn about continuing to engage in the sport at the highest level, this fight makes no sense,” said former WBO heavyweight champion Parker, who faced Joshua in 2018. Heavenly sports.

“You know, Jake Paul has done a good job of promoting himself, saying he’s one of the best in the world, but if you look at it, he’s not really a real boxer.

“He’s a YouTuber who’s into boxing and doing well. But if AJ wants to be solemn, he needs to fight the top fighters in the world.”

Tommy Fury

“If I can beat Jake Paul, then excuse my French, what the hell is ‘AJ’ going to do to Jake Paul,” Fury said to A place of stomping. “Even if ‘AJ’ had a broken arm there, it wouldn’t have lasted more than a minute. Honestly, for safety reasons, there is no way this fight could take place.

“How are we even talking about this? A little over two years ago he beat me to the punch and now all of a sudden he’s talking about beating Anthony Joshua. Come on, he can’t be solemn. He can’t beat me and I’m not Anthony Joshua, right? That’s just ridiculous.”

Anthony Joshua’s coach Ben Davison

“Yes [Jake Paul] he is successful in many different areas, but like I said, Anthony Joshua is probably the most hazardous man in sports. I think it’s just a delusion on Jake Paul’s part to get in the ring with him,” Joshua’s trainer Ben Davison said.

Eddie Hearn

“No, it’s not an exhibition,” said Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn Heavenly sports before the fight was confirmed. “We are not interested in exhibitions. This is a real fight.

“There are things to sort out and discuss. It would be a real fight with the Queensberry rules, the 10-ounce gloves. The bullets would be agreed. I mean the weight, we can come down to a number that would be more suitable for Jake, if that matters at all.”

“It’s a heavyweight fight. There was a little bit of talk about it in the media last night. It’s a cruiserweight moving up to heavyweight.”

Hearn continued: “We didn’t expect it to be a Jake Paul fight, but it just so happens that if it does happen, it will be for 50 times more money than we were going to fight.

“I think if there is any chance for this fight next week, you will probably hear about it. Despite the rumors, it has not been made yet. We received an offer from MVP (Most Valuable Promotions). I have my doubts.

“I mean, if he was crazy enough to entertain it, we’d be willing to commit to it, honestly.

“I think it would be virtually impossible for the amounts of money involved to turn down the opportunity to be in this fight. However, as I said, nothing has been confirmed yet and we will see what happens.”

A boxing match turns into a mass brawl when the boxer’s trainer is taken to the hospital

Published

on

A professional boxing world championship fight descended into chaos when a massive brawl broke out in the ring. Turkish Emirkhan Kalkhan and Russian Sergei Gorokhov faced off in the Besirli sports hall in the fight for the UBO world championship.

The tension reached a breaking point after the second round when Gorokhov secured victory over his opponent. The Russian was overjoyed and celebrated with his corner team before heading to Kalkhan to seemingly check how he was doing against his opponent.

A member of Kalkhan’s entourage then pushed Gorokhov away, before one of his cornermen lunged to deliver a thrust of his own. The situation quickly got out of control as both teams clashed in corner kicks, with spectators storming the ring to exchange punches and kicks.

Plastic chairs were thrown into the ring as a group of men attacked and kicked Coach Gorokhov. The boxer himself was left stunned as he desperately pleaded for an end to the violence before another group attacked him.

Falling to the canvas, Gorokhov was hit with chairs and subjected to a barrage of kicks before disappearing under a wave of enraged attackers. Meanwhile, a separate clip shows Gorokhov’s cornerback Igor Sudalainen lying on the floor and holding his head as security personnel and some of Kalkhana’s team tried to restore order.

After the incident, Gorokhov posted updates from a nearby hospital on social media. Sharing the message via the stories section of his Instagram account, he said: “Hello everyone. We are currently in hospital in Turkey.

“Ismail [trainer] he suffered a head injury and is currently undergoing an MRI. I got through it the least badly. The gloves helped protect me. Who saw the broadcast? “We were probably attacked by about 80 people.”

“They entered the ring and beat us after our great victory in the second round, where we knocked him out twice. However, the Turks behaved very badly.

“But thank God, everyone is alive. That’s what the fight was like, difficult. I’ll tell you later. We already have a police escort, we’ll go straight from the hotel to our rooms.

“I don’t think we’ll be spending the night there tonight. If anyone tries to pull a stunt, we’ll fly straight to Georgia. Then we’ll drive through Georgia overnight to Mineralnye Vody, and from there to Kaliningrad.”

“Thank you all for your support. We will be in touch. I will tell you everything tomorrow. World champion belt – we have a world champion in Russia, in Kaliningrad, in boxing. It was a very good fight.”

Gorokhov then posted another video on Instagram, confirming that he and his team had safely reached Georgia. He said: “We are in Georgia. We have the belt, we are champions. Thank you very much for your support, friends.”

Jarred Anderson’s return to the ring against Solomon Dacres was canceled just days later.

Dacres and Anderson were scheduled to face on May 9 in Fabio Wardley’s first world title defense against Daniel Dubois.

It looks like “Massive Baby” will continue to gain momentum after suffering his first career loss in 2024.

After a great start to his professional career and 17 impressive victories, Anderson took a gigantic risk in his fight against Martin Bakole in Los Angeles.

This acceleration did not go as planned, as Bakole stopped the American in the fifth round.

The American was forced to withdraw from competition for several weeks after suffering an injury during camp.

Anderson reportedly suffered a torn biceps, and the news was first broken by reporter Chris Mannix during the broadcast of Jarrell Miller’s win over Lenier Pero in Las Vegas.

Anderson, 26, recently signed a promotional deal with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, strengthening his existing relationship with Top Rank that he has been pursuing since his professional debut in 2019.

He last fought in a 10-round victory over Marios Kollias in February 2025, more than 14 months ago.

For now, no further information has been provided regarding a possible postponement of the fight.

For Dacres, it would be his first fight since his impressive decision victory over Vladyslav Sirenko.

Both Dacres and Anderson have only one loss to their name, and the fight between them will prove to be a great indicator of where each is at in their careers.

Dacres’ only loss came in the first round to David Adeleye in 2024, and he has only had one fight since that defeat.

Although the Anderson-Dacres fight has been canceled, the Manchester event will still go ahead as planned, with Fabio Wardley defending his WBO heavyweight title for the first time after winning the title with a stoppage victory over Joseph Parker.

Wardley remains undefeated and his opponent is Daniel Dubois, who has a 95% knockout rate.

Dubois is heading straight for another shot at the world title after being stopped by Oleksandr Usyk last July.

Wardley vs. Dubois it should be an epic fight, and the pair showed off their incredible knockout ability throughout their careers. The Ipswich fighter has wins over Justis Huni, Frazer Clarke and Joseph Parker, while Daniel Dubois has stopped Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua, so a stoppage seems the most likely outcome for the main event.

Dillian Whyte is eager to fight Joseph Parker again.

In 2018, Whyte and Parker played 12 invigorating rounds, with both hitting the canvas.

Whyte won his dramatic heavyweight fight by unanimous decision at the O2 Arena.

‘The Body Snatcher’ is now planning a rematch with the Recent Zealander, who is looking to clear his name after testing positive for cocaine following his October defeat to Fabio Wardley.

“There are a lot of good fights and Joseph Parker is one of them,” the 38-year-old said Ring Magazine.

“I feel like I still have a little bit to give, so let’s see what we can do to finish the season on a high.

The former world title challenger from Brixton has not fought since a crushing first-round knockout defeat to rising contender Moses Itauma last August in Riyad.

Former world champion Parker won six times on spin before being stopped in the 11th round against Wardley, losing the WBO interim title and a shot at unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.

The 34-year-old says he is going through this process after failing the test and hopes it will be resolved soon.

“We just have to be patient and learn from what they say happened.

“I know what happened and I handed over everything, so let’s see.”
