Oleksandr Usyk calls Tyson Fury a “greedy belly” again.

“Hi brother, I’m ready every time. I’m ready for Las Vegas, Modern York, Saudi Arabia, everything.

“Come on! The greedy belly is my friend,” Usyk laughed in the video posted by Turki Alalshikh.

Speculation about Fury immediately arose in the comments as Usyk made no direct mention of his upcoming fight with Rico Verhoeven on May 23 in Egypt.

This fight is widely viewed as a major mismatch considering Usyk’s boxing achievements compared to Verhoeven’s constrained professional boxing experience, despite his kickboxing success.

Usyk and Fury have already fought twice, with Usyk winning both fights. Still, another meeting between the two would likely bring in a lot of money due to the commercial success and interest surrounding their rivalry.

Fury is also expected to face Anthony Joshua later this year after both heavyweights fought preparatory fights over the summer months.

The way Usyk mentioned Fury in the clip seemed to be an implicit signal that he still wanted a third fight, even though he already had two wins over him. Usyk had previously named Fury, Verhoeven and the winner of the Wardley-Dubois fight as the last three opponents he wanted before retiring.

Since Usyk has already defeated Daniel Dubois twice, including on a stoppage in 2023, it is unclear whether he is actually interested in facing him again. Some fans believe Usyk may have expected Fabio Wardley to beat Dubois before finalizing his retirement plan.

A third fight with Fury would likely generate much more interest and revenue around the world than another meeting with Dubois at this stage.

Gervonta Davis' Next Opponent Accepts Callout: "Let's Do It"

Gervonta Davis’ prolonged inactivity is set to continue but it seems that he will have a host of options upon his eventual return, with a fellow unbeaten knockout artist being the latest to agree to a showdown with ā€˜Tank’.

Winless since June 2024, Davis’ only fight since has been a draw against Lamont Roach Jrwith legal issues continuing to get in the way of his return and causing him to lose his WBA lightweight title after being demoted to ā€˜champion-in-recess’.

After initially being linked to bouts against both Floyd Schofield and Isaac ā€˜Pitbull’ Cruz, it hasnow reported that the Baltimore-born operator will not fight this year, instead declaring that Davis’ return will take place in early 2027.

However, whilst seemingly unavailable for the remainder of the year, Davis has next called for a bizarre clash with newly-crowned WBA bantamweight titleholder, Jesse ā€˜Bam’ Rodriguez, according to the latter’s trainer, Robert Garcia, as per BoxingScene.

ā€œYou know who else he called out? He didn’t put it on social media but we have the messages he sent, he called out Bam. I’m telling you guys. He called out Bam and said ā€˜I want to fight you next. I’m going to talk to Al Haymon to make it happen.’ā€

Garcia then went on to address the obvious elephant in the room, given the four-division weight difference between the pound-for-pound stars, but maintained that Rodriguez accepted the call-out without hesitation.

ā€œI don’t even know if [Davis] was thinking of the weight difference from 118lbs [bantamweight] to 135 [lightweight]but ā€˜Bam’ didn’t hesitate. He messaged back, ā€˜All right, let’s do it.ā€™ā€

Whilst Rodriguez is willing, it is expected that the Texan will instead square-off with Naoya Inoue in a challenge for the undisputed super-bantamweight throne during the first quarter of 2027.

ā€œWith this new deal, I can make any fight that I want in the sport of boxing,ā€ Shakur told Ring Magazine. ā€œThere’s not no restrictions. It’s not no, ā€˜I can’t fight this guy.’ Boxing is not the same no more.ā€

The undefeated WBO light welterweight champion said critics are still viewing the sport through an outdated lens and believes Zuffa’s model will change that.

ā€œThe critics got to get past thinking in the old mindset. The new mindset is the best fighting the best, and I’m all for it. I think Zuffa is all for it too. So let’s do it,ā€ said Shakur.

Stevenson expanded on that point later in the interview, saying recent changes in boxing have already made major fights easier to put together.

ā€œThe business of boxing is not in the way no more,ā€ he said. ā€œI think with Zuffa, with Turki backing Zuffa, it’s just so much in the sport of boxing that can get done. Any of these guys want to say they want to fight Shakur? Then sign it up. I’m ready.ā€

While Shakur declined to call out a specific opponent, he reiterated that he is willing to face whoever emerges as the best available option. He also described the proposed fight with Gervonta ā€œTankā€ Davis as ā€œthe biggest fight in the sportā€ before adding that he is prepared to fight any elite opponent if the opportunity reaches his table.

Shakur signed with Zuffa Boxing today as the promotion continues building its roster around a UFC-style model backed by Dana White and Turki Alalshikh. His signing immediately led to speculation over future fights against Gervonta, Devin Haney and other top names as the new promotion looks to establish itself in boxing.
