In the European title fight spotlight, manager Shelly Finkel’s pair of delicate heavyweight Willy Hutchinson and debutant John Joe Carrigan achieved the most decisive results of the night in Glasgow on October 4, 2025.
While the main event ended in a draw, the Finkel-led duo secured explosive victories, signaling significant growth for both the veteran and up-to-date prospect.
Hutchinson closes the gap with a seventh-round TKO
Airy heavyweight fighter Willy Hutchinson (19-2, 14 KO) returned to the arena, stopping Mark Jeffers with a brutal finish in the seventh round. The performance was his intended comeback platform and set the tone for the next phase of his career.
Hutchinson dictated the pace from the opening bell, skillfully mixing a searing jab with sudden, powerful shots. He gradually broke Jeffers down over seven rounds until the referee correctly intervened at 2:15 of the seventh.
After the fight, Hutchinson confirmed his renewed focus, declaring that he was “back in business” and earnestly joking that he was tired of being a “sausage” outside the ring, a self-deprecating nod to his past problems with discipline and inaction. The decisive victory has re-instilled his confidence as he immediately takes aim at a more formidable opponent and returns to title contention.
Fresh from the amateur scene and also supported by Finkel, John Joe Carrigan made his professional debut on the same card, delivering first-round knockout drama after an accidental cut just moments after the fight.
Despite a head collision that resulted in a cut, Carrigan showed remarkable composure. He maintained focus and immediately responded to adversity with speed and power, turning the fight into a spectacular performance. Landing edged combinations, he closed the show in the first round against Dawid Przybylski.
The ending capped off a forceful debut for “Star Boy,” which impressed observers and signaled that Carrigan is a candidate built for disordered, high-pressure environments.
Both men emerge from the Glasgow card with momentum and purpose. Hutchinson’s return was an expression of maturity and focused aggression. At the same time, Carrigan’s debut showed the poise and finishing power of a fighter built for bigger nights under Finkel’s tutelage. This experienced boxing figure also represents Deontay Wilder.
