Why Jake Paul’s fight is more than just a crossover for Gervont Davis

Gervonta Davis takes part in one of the most polarizing boxing events this year, when he collides with Jake Paul in Netflix, but his longtime coach Calvin Ford insists that this movement is intentional.

Ford claims that the WBA Lightweight champion has stepped back from boxing and social work, using Paul Fight as a professional break.

Talking with Banner Baltimore During gifts in the hometown of Davis in West Baltimore, Ford outlined why the 30-year-old deliberately reduced his appearance.

“We don’t let him come as much as they used to be,” Ford explained. “Every time something crazy is happening.”

Gervonta Davis is moving away

For four years, the GTD Cares Davis Foundation has been a key part of the summer program of unlimited potential, distribution of sneakers, backpacks and school materials for local children. This year, the charity continued its contribution, providing 350 pairs of sneakers in cooperation with DTLR, but Davis himself was absent.

Development is part of a wider change for Davis, who now spends most of his time in Florida, away from repetitive legal dispersion in Baltimore.

In 2023, his case led to prison and suspension, and then later allegations that the authorities finally fallen in Florida.

Ford admitted that these factors contribute to why Davis followed a more private path.

From Lamont Roach to Jake Paul

In the ring, Davis recently fought with Lamont Roach on March 1, a fight, which many observers considered the ending of Davis and the possible defeat of the first career.

The Roach rematch seemed an obvious route until Netflix confirmed that Davis would meet YouTuber, Jake Paul on November 14 in Atlanta.

The fight has a significant difference in weight; Paul can scale up to 195 pounds, while Davis, which is usually featherlight, has no weight restrictions.

But for Ford, reasoning is clear.

“It’s in Netflix, it’s obvious. It’s a great opportunity.”

Why Davis needs this break

Davis previously irritated to retire and talked about the desire for more time with his three children. It seems that these moods gain adhesion.

Ford has strengthened the view that the tank needs space from relentless boxing.

“He did it since he was seven years antique,” said Ford. “At some point you have to spend some time. He has children. Man, he has a family. He enjoys life.

“Sometimes you have to take a break and escape.”

For now, Davis focuses straight on the November hit of Netflix. However, Ford’s words suggest that Paweł’s fight may be smaller about the performance, and more about finding Davis’s balance after years in high pressure sport.

Regardless of whether the balance leads him back to the elite featherlight or super featherlight division, or to the types of crossover competitions that dominate the headlines, remains uncertain.

When Davis still thinks about his future, WBN decided that he no longer deserves a place on the elite pound of boxing.
