Uros Medic reacts to Daniel Rodriguez’s imprisonment prior to UFC Belgrade booking: ‘It puts a stain on all of our names’

Uros Medic is excited to compete in the first UFC main event in Serbia at UFC Belgrade this Saturday against Daniel Rodriguez, but he doesn't feel bad for the road Rodriguez has gone through to get there.
Medic and Rodriguez both enter this weekend's five-round welterweight clash riding three-fight win streaks. Prior to the fight being booked, Rodriguez spent eight months in a Mexican prison following an arrest due to being caught in possession of marijuana. Rodriguez was released in April and is now ready to resume his fighting career.
Days before the matchup, the surging 170-pound contender reacted to Rodriguez's tough situation.
“[It's] obviously unfortunate to hear anytime an athlete is going through some struggles and getting in trouble with the law, or violence or anything like that,†Medic told MMA Fighting. “It puts a stain on all of our names. I don't respect that.
“Mistakes can be made, and he's just a human being, so it is what it is, but I try to represent something better. We are all athletes, and I try to be educated and make smart decisions and not get myself in those kinds of troubles, and not try to build my name off of things that sell, such as being a clown or being just a total… like a controversial person. I'm not saying he intentionally did something like that, probably not.â€
Rodriguez competes for the first time in over a year following a wild decision win over Kevin Holland at UFC 318 in July 2025. Medic was one of the stars coming out of February's UFC Houston event after stopping Geoff Neal in a little over a minute — his third straight first-round finish.
While Medic hopes Rodriguez is in a better place, he isn't, and won't show any sympathy when the octagon door locks.
“As I was saying, it's unfortunate that he had to go through stuff like that, obviously it was probably his fault,†Medic said. “Media cannot wait to write another bad story about an MMA fighter. So I don't buy into any of that. I don't feed into any of that.
“I'm not the type of fighter that's going to be a controversial person like that and have trouble with the law, trouble with drugs, substance abuse, or anything like that. I don't buy into that. I'm a professional athlete. I carry myself professionally. I study, I try to act accordingly. Obviously I'm no saint, but you won't see me in the news getting arrested – at least I hope so. I mean, I never tried to, but you never know with that type of stuff, so I wish him well, but when Saturday night comes, I'm going to try to hurt him.â€
Medic believes this opportunity is a “historic†one for himself and the UFC as he prepares to get the big pop from the sold out crowd at Belgrade Arena. Medic plans to send his hometown faithful home happy and proud.
“The headlines are going to read, ‘The Doctor is in,'†Medic said. Another finish for Uros Medic, and that's all I'm chasing really.â€

MVP fires back at Heather Hardys $10M lawsuit over Amanda Serrano fight

Most Valuable Promotions has responded to a lawsuit filed by
former world champion Heather
Hardy over her 2023 rematch with Amanda
Serrano.
Hardy is seeking $10 million in damages from MVP, alleging in her
complaint that the promotion moved forward with the bout despite
concerns about the risks involved. Hardy alleges that she suffered
permanent neurological damage from the fight, which took place in
August 2023 on the Jake
Paul-Nate Diaz
card.
Most Valuable Promotions cites Hardy’s medical clearance and
commission oversight in response to the lawsuit
According to Hardy's complaint, the fight presented an
“extraordinary and foreseeable risk of serious neurological harm.â€
She also alleges that the bout contributed to lasting issues,
including traumatic brain injury, memory loss and double
vision.
MVP disputed the allegations in a statement issued in response to
the lawsuit, emphasizing Hardy's medical clearance and the
commission's oversight of the contest.
“MVP has great respect for Heather Hardy. We recognize the
difficulty of her circumstances and extend our sincere sympathy and
hope that she receives the care and support she deserves,†MVP
responded (via ESPN). “Heather's participation on our Aug. 5,
2023, card was arranged through her promoter, Lou DiBella, who
contracted for the fight, and Heather publicly expressed her
gratitude for the opportunity both before and after the fight.â€
“MVP followed applicable protocols for the fight, Heather was
medically cleared to compete by the athletic commission overseeing
the event, and the bout proceeded under the commission's authority
and supervision in accordance with their standard medical and
safety requirements,†the statement added. “MVP remains committed
to fighter safety and supporting the athletes who compete in our
events in full compliance with commission standards.â€

Shevchenko</a> out due to injury and the title vacant, Natalia
Silva and Cong Wang will compete for the 125-pound championship.
The card also features several notable names, including former
champions Deiveson Figueiredo and Rafael dos Anjos, who enter their
respective matchups as sizable underdogs.</p><p/><h2>Payton Talbott is -575 against former UFC champion Deiveson
Figueiredo</h2>

favorite against Wang (+165). Silva is riding a 14-fight winning
streak and is unbeaten in the UFC, while Wang enters the matchup on
a four-fight winning streak.<p>Payton Talbott enters UFC 332 as the largest favorite on the card.
Talbott is listed at -575 against former UFC flyweight champion
Figueiredo, who is a +425 underdog. Damian Pinas and promotional
debutant Roberto Soldic are also among the biggest favorites on the

UFC Vegas 121 left him particularly shaken.
Felder was on commentary duty at Meta Apex in Las Vegas for the
latest Fight Night. The main event, which was a back-and-forth
battle, ended in frightening fashion as Barcelos appeared to go
limp during a wrestling exchange against the Octagon wall in the
final round. The referee immediately stopped the contest, and
Barcelos was removed from the Octagon on a stretcher and
transported to a hospital.
It was later confirmed that Barcelos was conscious and responsive.
For Felder, the moments after the finish remain unforgettable.

‘I thought he had a heart attack'
Speaking on the “Believe You Me†podcast, Felder recalled his
immediate reaction while watching the medical team attend to
Barcelos. The former fighter was alarmed when he saw a doctor check
Barcelos' pulse, something he said he had never witnessed in
similar circumstances.
“His neck was all clinched up and he was unconscious,†Felder said.
“And it looked like he was — I thought he had a heart attack, off
the bat. Then they came in, and they checked his pulse, which was
terrifying to see. I have never seen somebody that was KO'd, where
they come in and the first thing they did, the doctor put his
fingers right on Raoni's pulse. I was like, ‘Oh, this is really
bad.â€
Felder said the uncertainty continued as Barcelos remained
motionless.
“He was just not getting up and then I'm thinking, ‘Is it a stroke?
Is it a heart attack?'†Felder added. “But if they weren't doing
CPR and his pulse was at least there and present and he's
breathing, probably not a heart attack.â€
Barcelos reportedly remains under medical supervision but has
addressed fans on social media, assuring them that he is doing
well.
