UFC Vegas 120 sees recently cut fighter return on 2 days’ notice

Gianni Vazquez is back in the UFC under some truly bizarre circumstances.

MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the new matchup that Vazquez (14-6) has been called on to step in for Jessie Rosas to fight Miles Johns (15-5, 1 NC) at UFC Vegas 120 on Saturday. The news was first reported by HEAVY, and the change has been made on the official event page.

According to Rosas' brother, fellow UFC fighter Raul Rosas Jr., the bout was changed due to a “glove scratch in his forehead†that was suspected to be an infection.

See Raul's full statement from Instagram Stories below.

UFC doctor pulled my brother out of his fight. Due to a glove scratch in his forehead as he believes it's an infection. We did what we could, got approval from two doctors everything was OK, but the UFC doctor made the call. There's nothing we can do, my brother was ready. Things happen for a reason, God's plan. His time will come.

Johns and Vazquez will both compete at a different weight class than usual with veteran bantamweight Johns already scheduled to compete at featherweight against Rosas, and Vazquez actually having a flyweight bout set for an LFA show on Aug. 21 before receiving the call for his second UFC fight.

Vazquez made his UFC debut this past February, again stepping in on short-notice to fight Javid Basharat as a replacement for Said Nurmagomedov. Fight week was a disaster for Vazquez as he weighed in five pounds over the bantamweight limit, costing him 25 percent of his purse, and then lost a decision to Basharat. Despite a competitive effort, Vazquez was subsequently released,

The 32-year-old bounced back with a second-round knockout of Komronbek Ortikov at a Combate Global show in MMA and now makes an unlikely UFC comeback, having been released and re-signed in the span of six months.

Johns is badly in need of a win having lost three straight fights, most recently being submitted by Daniel Marcos this past November.

Court McGee at peace with UFC farewell: ‘OK is good enough for me’
Court
McGee is proud of his final
Ultimate Fighting Championship appearance.

McGee's final bout came against Eric Nolan
at UFC
332 on Oct. 3 in front of his home fans in Salt Lake City. He
suffered a third-round technical knockout loss after a hard-fought
battle and subsequently laid down his gloves inside the Octagon to
mark the end of his UFC career.

Court McGee reflects on his final UFC fight after 16 years in
the promotion

McGee released a statement addressing his retirement. He is proud
of his final UFC fight despite the loss. After 16 years in the UFC,
McGee said he finally took it all in leading up to his farewell
bout. “The Crusher†also paid tribute to 13 coaches and training
partners he lost along the way.

“Saturday night was my last fight in the UFC,†McGee posted on X.
“16 years. 29 fights, including my time in the Ultimate Fighter
house. One hell of a journey. I didn't get my hand raised, but I'm
incredibly proud of my performance, proud of my opponent, and
genuinely happy for him. For the first time, I was able to slow
down and truly experience it all—the weeks leading up to the fight,
fight week, the walk to the Octagon, and everyone who's been beside
me through the highs and lows. Including the 13 coaches and
training partners we've lost. RIP. I gave this sport everything I
had. Sometimes my best was great. Sometimes it was just okay.
Saturday night, I was okay—and okay is good enough for me. I'm
grateful for the wins, the losses, the lessons, the people, and
every damn moment in between. What a journey. Thank you.â€

McGee (22-15) won Season 11 of “The Ultimate Fighter†in 2010,
earning a UFC contract. He overcame addiction before beginning his
professional mixed martial arts career.
