Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Octagon returns to Canada with a key welterweight bout as a former title challenger Gilbert Burns will face an emerging Canadian rival Mike Malot in the main event on Saturday, April 18 on Canadian Life Center.

The main card airs live at 20:00 ET / 17:00 Polish time ON Sports network AND TVA Sportswith qualifying rounds starting at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time / 3:00 p.m. Polish time. The early qualifiers broadcast continues UFC Fight Pass On 4:00 PM ET / 1:00 PM Pacific Time.

Gilbert Burns wants to reconfirm title contention

Burns (22-9), fighting from Boca Raton, Florida, by way of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, enters 2026 with the intention of proving himself at the end. Former welterweight title challenger “Durinho” has notable wins over:

  • Jorge Masvidal
  • Stephen Thompson
  • Tyron Woodley

Burns, currently 12th in the rankings, hopes to stop Malott’s momentum and get back into championship contention.

Mike Malott sees a breakthrough in the top 15

Malott (13-2-1), representing Fonthill, Ontario, quickly gained a reputation as a hazardous finisher. The Canadian secured impressive victories over:

  • Kevin Holland
  • Karol Radke
  • Adam Fugitt

Competing in his first UFC main event, Malott plans to deliver a career-defining performance in front of his home crowd and break into the top 15 in the welterweight division.
