Tyson Fury’s manager admits one opponent would be too dangerous for first comeback fight

Tyson Fury confirmed his return to the sport and after over a year of inactivity, he intends to fight a warm-up fight instead of jumping into the deep end.

Fury, a two-time world heavyweight champion, dethroned Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to win the unified titles, but lost the belts without a defense due to inactivity due to mental problems and addiction.

Fury regained world honors by beating Deontay Wilder in a rematch in 2020, then defended his WBC heavyweight crown three times before suffering the first defeat of his career to Oleksandr Usyk while fighting for the undisputed title.

“The Gypsy King” then decided to retire from boxing after another loss to Usyk in their rematch, but fans doubted the sincerity of these claims as this was the fifth occasion that Fury had announced his retirement.

Indeed, the 37-year-old has now revealed he will return to fighting in 2026, but his manager Spencer Brown has ruled out newly crowned WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley as a potential first opponent for the event interview with BoxNation, he agreed when the interviewer said the substantial Ipswich striker was “too risky” at this stage.

“Don’t be so stupid. Why would you fight him.” [Wardley] immediately? He needs a warm-up fight. Why would he do that when he was away from home and Wardley was very lively and doing his job? If he told me he was fighting Wardley tomorrow, I would just say ‘wait.’

“Yes, I agree with you on this, [that Wardley is too dangerous right now]”

Instead, Arslanbek Makhmudov is considered the favorite to be in the opposing corner for Fury’s first fight in 2026, three months after the Russian defeated Dave Allen on British soil.

Wardley welcomed the fight later in the year and is expected to voluntarily make the first defense of his belt in the meantime.

Tony Bellew Reviews Anthony Joshua's Comeback Victory Over Kristian Prenga After Knockdown Drama

Anthony Joshua may have earned a knockout win over Kristian Prenga but the fight certainly didn’t unfold as most people expected.

Joshua was facing the Albanian in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, and it looked like a massive upset could be on the cards when he was dropped twice in the opening round.

‘AJ’ was able to recover and went on to secure a second round knockout victory to prevent the shock lossseemingly paving the way for the battle against Tyson Fury later this year.

One man who was ringside to witness the battle was former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellewand he praised Joshua’s ability to turn things around in the fight after describing it as ‘chaos’.

“We predicted round two but I don’t think we foresaw that. That was chaos. He doesn’t see the uppercut coming and finds himself on the floor without knowing how he got there.

“The second one he did see it coming and he was able to clench down on the jaw. He got up and then the experience that he has he used tonight because he tied him up. Against Andy Ruiz he didn’t know what he was doing and didn’t know how to do that, but tonight he did.

“He showed once again there is no quit. To be that hurt in the first round and get up, that’s the recoveries of power. People talk about your chin, but it’s not, it’s the level of fitness that gets you up from the floor.

“When Joshua gets a fighter hurt he’s the best finisher in the division. Whenever he hurts someone they’re gone. I haven’t seen him drop anybody and they survive, only Andy Ruiz. He’s a ruthless finisher.”

The clash between Joshua and Fury is now expected to be announced soon for later this year, after Fury won his own interim fight on Friday by defeating Mariusz Wach.
