Tyson Fury return takes strange turn ahead of Anthony Joshua superfight

There isn't much excitement surrounding Tyson Fury's
return to the squared circle and for good reason.

Fury is scheduled to fight Mariusz Wach on 24 July at Muay Thai
Stadium in Pattaya, Thailand. However, fans won't be able to watch
the bout live as it won't be broadcast on any channel or streaming
service. The fight will instead be recorded for his Netflix show
“At Home with the Furys.”

Fury (35-2) and Anthony
Joshua (29-4) are gearing up for a super-fight in the near
future, with both English heavyweights set to fight once before
their clash. While Fury squares off against Wach to build up to his
highly anticipated bout against Joshua, “A.J.” is set to collide
with Kristian Prenga on July 25 at Jeddah Superdome in Jeddah,
Saudi Arabia. Unlike Fury's fight, Joshua vs. Prenga will be
streamed live on DAZN.

Fury is coming off a victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov, which saw
him return to action for the first time since back-to-back title
losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024. Meanwhile, Joshua is coming off a
stoppage win over Jake Paul,
which saw him rebound from a loss against Daniel
Dubois.

Umar Nurmagomedov reacts to Merab Dvalishvili brawling with friend at RAF event: ‘How do you live with that?’

Umar Nurmagomedov and Merab Dvalishvili have gone five rounds in the octagon before and they almost became physical again at a recent RAF event in Georgia.

At the inaugural RAF Georgia event this past July, fans caught footage of one of Nurmagomedov's friends getting into an altercation with Dvalishvili during a pre-fight press conference. Dvalishvili responded aggressively to fan question asking if he would wrestle Nurmagomedov in an RAF wrestling match, saying, “No, never, f*ck that guy. Whoever RAF choose, I'll fight. Except this spoiled guy.â€

Later, Dvalishvili and Nurmagomedov's friend (named “Ahmad,†according to Nurmagomedov) had a scuffle in the crowd.

Nurmagomedov criticized Dvalishvili for his behavior in a conversation with MMA journalist Adam Zubayraev.

“He's the one who has to live with it,†Nurmagomedov said in Russian (English translation via Zubayraev). “For example, can you imagine a Georgian coming up to me in Dagestan? … If a Georgian tells me not to talk to Merab, and I hit him from behind and insult him in my own language, I can't imagine myself doing that. But as a person, how do you live with that?

“And the people who defend it, that means there's something wrong there. You have to call wrong things wrong. No matter who does it.â€

Nurmagomedov claimed that Ahmad went to exchange words with Dvalishvili, but did not initiate the physicality, and that it's Dvalishvili who is responsible for the confrontation escalating.

“Yeah, Ahmad walked up to him and said, ‘Why are you speaking for someone who isn't even here?'†Nurmagomedov said. “He didn't insult him, didn't say anything rude, didn't show any disrespect. He said, ‘Tell him to his face what you want to say. Why are you swearing here?'â€

The beef between Dvalishvili and Nurmagomedov dates back to 2024, when Nurmagomedov was rising through the bantamweight ranks as an undefeated fighter chasing Dvalishvili at the top of the division. They were eventually booked to fight at UFC 311 in January 2025, with Dvalishvili outworking and outlasting Nurmagomedov to win a unanimous decision and retain his UFC title.

Nurmagomedov, who looks to make it three straight wins when he fights Song Yadong in the main event of UFC Shanghai on Aug. 29, has spoken of rematching Dvalishvili, but until that day comes he wants little to do with his Georgian rival.

“I swear, I don't care at all what he does or how he feels,†Nurmagomedov said. “I'm being honest with you. In general, there are probably people who want to prove something. Brother, I have nothing to prove to anyone and I have nothing to prove to Merab and I have nothing to prove to Georgians. I just want to live my life, that's it.â€

see Dakota
Ditcheva compete again.

Dakota Ditcheva reinjured both hands against Denise Kielholtz
at PFL New York and expects to be sidelined before a potential Liz
Carmouche fight

Ditcheva (16-0, 11-0 PFL) is once again dealing with hand injuries.
The 28-year-old earned a unanimous decision victory over Bellator
MMA veteran Denise
Kielholtz in the PFL New York co-main event, with “Dangerousâ€
sweeping the scorecards. The British fighter,
who is ranked No. 10 in Sherdog's women's pound-for-pound
rankings, revealed on her YouTube channel that she had
reinjured both hands.

“Breaking news. I am injured again,†Ditcheva said in the vlog. “I
broke my hands in the [Kielholtz] fight. I could feel it from the
second I started the second round. I didn’t tell my corner. I
didn’t tell anybody. I didn’t show it this time. And I didn’t
actually tell anybody until I got out of the cage.â€

The Kielholtz bout was Ditcheva's first fight in more than a year,
following her dominant victory against Sumiko
Inaba in July 2025. Against Inaba, the
American Top Team representative broke her hands for the first
time. She suffered another hand injury early this year, forcing her
out of a scheduled meeting with Kielholtz at PFL Dubai in February
before the fight was eventually rebooked.

“I am back in splints until my surgeon has decided what the next
steps are going forward, which will be in the next few days,†she
added. “The good thing is I have no new breaks. It’s just that if I
explained the hand that wasn’t operated on originally that I broke
at the end of last year, I was told that if I didn’t go ahead with
the surgery at that time, there was a possibility that it would
break again in my fight. Unfortunately, I took the risk in not
doing the surgery because I was hoping that it would hold strong
without intervening with that kind of thing, and it didn't. It’s no
new injury.â€

Ditcheva said she expects to be sidelined for “a little bit.†When
she returns, she is expected to meet 2025 tournament champion
Liz
Carmouche in a highly anticipated matchup.

Matt Brown: Ian Machado Garry has championship potential but Islam Makhachev is the ‘wrong guy at the wrong time’

Ian Machado Garry is finally getting his shot at UFC gold on Saturday, but he faces a daunting task going up against the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport in Islam Makhachev.

Currently riding a remarkable 16-fight win streak, Makhachev has effectively looked unstoppable at both lightweight and welterweight. He's heavily favored to win on Saturday night but Garry is obviously gunning for the upset and his chance to shock the world by beating Makhachev to win the title.

Retired UFC welterweight Matt Brown believes Garry has everything necessary to become champion one day, but he just doesn't see how the always outspoken Irishman gets past a brick wall like Makhachev.

“He is an extremely skilled guy,†Brown said about Garry on the latest episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer. “I've given him praises for a long time. I think he's got championship material in him. I don't doubt that he can make this a good fight. He's just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Had he got a fight with Jack Della Maddalena, I think it would be a 50/50 fight. But here's Islam Makhachev, the wrong guy at the wrong time.

“So much of that is in this sport. So much comes down to timing and matchups. It's just unfortunate for Ian. I think he does have championship potential. I'd love to see him against the other top guys, the [Carlos] Prates, Michael Morales and guys like that. But Islam is just about as bad of a matchup as you could possibly put together.â€

In the simplest terms as far as strategy goes, Garry almost certainly has to stop Makhachev's takedowns if he hopes to have any success on the feet.

While Garry is certainly an elite striker, he's not known for having true knockout power, which means he may have to outpoint Makhachev for 25 minutes to get the job done at UFC 330.

Anything is possible but Brown just doesn't see how Garry stays off the ground for the entire fight because Makhachev could potentially land one big takedown and his opponent never gets up again.

“He's got to stop his takedowns,†Brown said. “That's the big thing and then somehow win on points on the feet or land some big shots to make Islam a little bit shy of coming in again or lands some big shots and get a knockout, which Ian is just not known for. It's not like it couldn't happen. We still get these matchups from 1990 all the time: Striker versus grappler. Of course, Ian has good grappling and Islam has good striking so it's not as pure as it used to be, but I think we know very clearly what both people's game plans are here and it's just a matter of who can implement it.

“When you have someone at the level of Islam and his wrestling, it's just hard to imagine someone is going to catch up to that unless they've been wrestling their whole life.â€

On the feet, Garry may have an advantage but Brown says it's not as lopsided as the fight hitting the floor. Makhachev may not be known as an elite striker but he can handle himself in those exchanges and because he doesn't have to fear Garry's power as much, he can not only survive but potentially thrive.

“The biggest issue here is Ian being more of a decision guy and not really a power striking, knockout guy, Islam might be able to make some mistakes on the feet,†Brown explained. “Let's say Ian is able to keep it on the feet, Islam can still make mistakes theoretically, he can go a little bit further to get the takedown because he's not at risk.

“But again hypothetically on paper, if Ian makes one mistake on the ground, that's probably going to be it. You can't do silly things on the ground with Islam Makhachev. Charles Oliveira found that out.â€

Because Makhachev is such a nightmare matchup, Brown says Garry's only real chance is putting on an absolutely flawless performance and it's just hard for anybody to do that in a five-round fight. At some point, Brown anticipates that Garry is going to make a mistake and that's all Makhachev needs to seize the opening to finish the fight.

“Islam can make some mistakes, but Ian really can't,†Brown said. “He can't really make mistakes. Because Islam will capitalize on those mistakes. He has to fight the perfect fight. Islam doesn't really have to fight the perfect fight. He's just got to fight his fight.â€
