Tyson Fury has confirmed his target for later this year, hoping to put on a “substantial spectacle” after his expected return to the ring in April.
“The Gypsy King” announced the end of his year-long retirement earlier this month, revealing several clips of him training in Thailand on social media.
The 37-year-old has been the manager since then Spencer Brown told Sky Sports there are around five or six potential opponents being considered for his comeback fight.
One of them is Arslanbek Makhmudov, who won against Dave Allen by unanimous decision in October and clearly emerged as the favorite in the fight with Fury.
Meanwhile, the Morecambe man has not fought since his second points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024, which followed a split decision loss to the Ukrainian earlier this year.
So the plan now seems to be for Fury to dust off the cobwebs against a returning opponent, perhaps Makhmudov, before diving back into the deep end of heavyweight competition.
It looks like the fight British fans are desperately anticipating is Fury vs. Anthony Joshua, although ‘AJ’ is still yet to confirm his future following his tragic car crash in Nigeria.
Alternatively, Fury has named WBO champion Fabio Wardley as his ideal opponent ahead of his “substantial test” later this year in hopes of becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion.
Taking to Instagram Earlier today, the 6ft 9in giant insisted that if they go the extra mile, an All-British clash with Wardley should be a real possibility.
“Like I said, let’s see how I look in the rematch and then in 2026 it will be a good option for me to try [and] become [three-time] heavyweight champion.
“[Wardley] he will soon have a tough fight. I know what fight you all want, but I won’t say his name right now out of respect because he’s mourning.
“But if he doesn’t intend to continue his career in boxing, I would like Huge Fab to be a substantial test for him. It would be a huge spectacle! 2026 is the year of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Wardley defeated Joseph Parker in the 11th round in October and was promoted from interim to full WBO champion following Usyk’s decision to vacate his world title.
