Photos from No Limit boxingFormer world champion Tim Tszyu officially kicked off his fight week in Sydney, where he faced undefeated challenger Denis Nurja ahead of their highly anticipated showdown this weekend.
The couple will be the main stars Premier Boxing Champions Championship on Prime Video this Saturday, April 4 (US date), live from the WIN Entertainment Center.
The card starts streaming at 21:00 ET / 18:00 PT exclusively on Amazon Prime Video for Prime members in the US and select countries.
Tszyu returns home and wants to start fighting for the title again
Tszyu, a former WBO super welterweight titleholder, enters the fight determined to resume his climb towards another world title shot.
The Australian star is training in Miami under the supervision of respected coach Pedro Diaz and will fight for the title the second time with Diaz in the corner.
“It’s unbelievable to be back home in Australia,” Tszyu said during a media briefing in Sydney. “Australia will always be home to me.”
Tszyu also made it clear that he was going into the fight with a special attitude.
“Word annihilation has been on my mind for the last seven weeks. That’s all I want to do.”
Nurja arrives undefeated and confident
On the other side of the ring will be the undefeated contender Nurja, who will enter the ranking fight No. 12 by WBA.
The player prepared for this opportunity by organizing training camps in Italy and London before arriving in Australia earlier this week.
Despite Tszyu’s star power, Nurja made it clear that his sole focus was on the task ahead.
“I respect Tim. He’s still a great fighter,” Nurja said. “But that will be decided by the ring, not the conversation.”
Nurja also addressed speculation about Tszyu potentially fighting bigger fights, including a fight with Errol Spence Jr.
“He still has to go through me before he thinks about it,” Nurja said.
Key fights on the Undercard
The event will also feature several high-stakes fights.
Undefeated Australian Sam Goodman will face Argentine Rodrigo Ruiz IBF 126-pound title eliminator over 12 rounds.
Meanwhile, undefeated 2024 Australian Olympian Callum Peters will face fellow undefeated fighter Delio Mouzinho in the middleweight division.
The event is promoted by No Limit Boxing and TGB Promotions.
According to No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose, the fight marks an crucial moment for Tszyu.
“This is Tim’s first fight in Wollongong,” Rose said. “He’s up against an undefeated fighter, so it’s a tough test and a fight that could prepare him for huge opportunities later this year.”
