Tim Bradley has drawn parallels between Floyd Mayweather and Terence Crawford, two of the greatest welterweights of all time, while offering a rather divisive look at their careers.
Both Americans have won world titles in five weight classes, but the 147-pound class has stumbled upon a particularly fruitful hunting ground for Crawford.
Finishing all eight of his fights at the distance, his ruthless run certainly left his mark on the era of welterweight boxing.
Although his most notable win was against Errol Spence Jrwhom he stopped in the ninth round to claim the undisputed crown in 2023, “Bud” also faced a selection of noteworthy challengers.
For example, victories over Shawn Porter and Egidijus Kavaliauskas may be considered underrated, but they will likely be viewed more favorably in the coming years.
So while many may argue that Crawford’s most impressive achievement came against Canelo Alvarez in September, when he became the undisputed three-division champion, his 147-pound haul means he is often compared to welterweight champions of the past.
One of them, of course, is Mayweather, who despite his best performances in the lower weight classes, was still able to establish his authority in the welterweight division.
But while Crawford and Mayweather competed in completely different eras, their resumes show that former two-division world champion Bradley managed to find at least a modicum of common ground.
I’m talking about his YouTube channelThe Hall of Famer opined that the two undefeated champions would beat any fighter they faced, while suggesting that Crawford has more power and skill than top-ranked Mayweather.
“Someone said, ‘Can Terence Crawford beat everyone on Floyd Mayweather’s resume?’ Are you kidding me? Terence would crush everyone Floyd has ever fought.
“[Angel] Manfredy? Done; fried – Crawford would beat him, dominate him and knock him out. “Bud” hits harder than Floyd. He can do everything Floyd can do and he can do it both ways [stances].
“Crawford has more skills than Floyd. Zab Judah too – he’s my guy – [but] “Bud” would kick your ass too. Would Floyd Mayweather beat everyone on Crawford’s resume? Yes, no, fuck. But it doesn’t go one way; it works both ways.”
