Subriel Matias vs Dalton Smith – results and post-fight report
Dalton Smith became the modern WBC super lightweight champion at Barclays Cantre in Up-to-date York following a stunning fifth-round stoppage of his fight against outgoing champion Subriel Matias in the Massive Apple.
Smith passed the toughest test of his career against Matias and did his job in spectacular fashion
Matias (23-3, KO22) previously reigned as IBF champion, losing the belt to Liam Paro in June 2024, but won the WBC crown last July with a majority verdict against Alberto Puello.
Smith (19-0, KO14) came into this fight undefeated but largely unproven, having won the British, Commonwealth and European belts, as well as the WBC collateral titles, while defending his silver WBC crown last time out with a wide points win over Mathieu Germain in his hometown of Sheffield.
A good right hand found Smith’s goal in the first set, and his shot was effective from the beginning.
Mathias decided to try walking Smith loses in the first roundbut only entered the upper part of the opponent.
Smith was joyful to trade with Matias in the second round because he used up a lot of energy, and Matias took advantage of it in the third, landing a left hook and getting better exchanges.
Smith continued to be content to fight fire and landed quite the loser when a huge left hook landed on him on the fourth kick, with the powerful combination also finding its mark as the Sheffield fighter turned up the pressure.
Matias backed up Smith early in the fifth round, but “Thunder” came back and although he suffered a cut to his left eye, Smith’s left hooks rocked the champion and his overhand right hand knocked the Puerto Rican down.
He got up, but on wobbly legs and the fight was sensationally rejected.
Undercard remaining
There were plenty of early wins on the card, with Nestor Bravo (24-1, KO17) scoring an impressive second-round knockout victory over Pedro Campa (37-5-1, KO25).
It was a highlight-reel knockout, with Bravo’s shocking left hook first flattening Campa’s face.

Former two-time world champion Emmanuel Rodriguez (23-3, KO13) returned from losing his IBF bantamweight title with a ten-round victory over Fernando Diaz (16-7-1, KO6).
Rodriguez won with scores of 99-90 (twice) and 97-92.
Jeyvier Cintron (14-1, KO7) stopped Victor Efrain Sandoval (38-6, KO24) three times en route to a first-round bantamweight victory, and Keith Colon (9-0, KO9) performed brilliantly with another early victory, this time in the seventh round over Alberto Guevara (28-9, KO13).
Lightweight heavyweight newcomer Arjan Iseni (5-0, KO5) forced Mario Bedolla Orozco (4-5, KO3) to withdraw after three rounds of a scheduled six-round fight

Jaron Ennis is the bookmakers’ main favorite to defeat Xander Zayas in their highly anticipated world title clash on Saturday in Brooklyn.
Ennis challenges Zayas for the WBO and WBA super welterweight belts at the Barclays Center live on DAZN pay-per-view.
The undefeated resident of Philadelphia enters the game as the favorite on February 11 Bet365 give the 23-year-old his first professional defeat and become world champion in two weight categories.
“Boots” has stopped 31 of his 35 opponents, including Uisma Lima in his 154-pound debut in October, and is expected to stop the Puerto Rican on 20/21.
The 28-year-old last covered this distance in 2024, and a decision victory is valued at 13/2.
Even though Zayas has taken over as unified champion, he is an underdog Bet365 at 15/04.
Man from San Juan defeated Abass Baraou by split decision will add the WBA belt to his WBO crown in January and his best chance of victory is rated at 13/2 by decision, while success in the shock break is rated at 14/1.

On Wednesday, Lewis Crocker heads to Australia to defend his IBF welterweight world title against Liam Paro for the first time.
Crocker will face Paro at the Pat Rafter Arena in Queensland, live on DAZN in the UK and Kayo Sports in Australia.
Crocker (22-0, 11 KO) became world champion in September, defeating Paddy Donovan twice before winning the rematch by split decision.
Man from Belfast recorded his second victory over Donovan after the first victory in March last year, and his rival was disqualified for hitting him after the bell.
Paro (27-1, 16 KO) is trying to become a world champion in two weight categories, having previously reigned in the super-lightweight division.
The 30-year-old won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Subriel Matias in Puerto Rico before winning the belt in his first defense against Richardson Hitchins.
The Australian has since won twice, overtaking David Papot in his last appearance in September.
McKean meets Taliva
Heavyweight Demsey McKean will look to continue his rebuild when he faces Liam Talivaa for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title.
McKean (24-2, 16 KO) had his career cut miniature after a last-round loss to Filip Hrgovic, followed by a brutal first-round loss to Moses Itauma.

The 35-year-old southpaw returned to winning ways with back-to-back stoppage victories.
Talivaa (8-2, 4 KO) last won the IBF Oceania-Orient title, defeating Faiga Opelu by first-round stoppage.
