Ryan Garcia Says One Man Is The Greatest Fighter Of All Time: ‘You’ve Got To Pick Him’

Ryan Garcia says one man stands alone as the greatest fighter of all time: “You have to pick him”

What makes someone a true candidate for “greatest boxer of all time”?

Is it about the quality of the opposition? Number of world titles? Range of weight classes gained? Or maybe a combination of all this and the intangibles they showed in the ring?

Ryan Garcia offered his own thoughts and personal choice of GOAT during his next appearance on the show Inside the Ring.

The opinion of an lively professional can often influence or strengthen public choices. But Garcia’s selection wasn’t based on customary names like Sugar Ray Robinson or Muhammad Ali. Instead, he chose someone much closer to his era – a fighter he grew up watching – Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“When you look at it from the standpoint of an eye test and your boxing knowledge as a boxer, you have to go with Floyd [Mayweather]. Floyd has it all: inside and out, he can be tough, he can dig deep.

“He has a lot of choice in what he has in his bag, you know what I mean? He’s difficult to read.”

With a record of 50-0 (27 KOs) and 26 world titles in five weight classes, Mayweather is certainly a compelling choice for the greatest fighter of the 21st century to date. At the turn of the millennium, the American had just a two-year reign as the WBC super featherweight champion before going on to dominate the sport for the next 17 years.

His ring skills made him almost untouchable at times. José Luis Castillo and Marcos Maidana had a string of successes in their first attempts to dethrone him, but Mayweather had a habit of making even elite fighters look ordinary with his defensive mastery and precise counter-attacks.

Next year, Mayweather – who has spent recent years in the exhibition ring – will be able to lace up his gloves once again and return to professionalism in a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, whom he defeated in 2015.

Tony Bellew Reviews Anthony Joshua's Comeback Victory Over Kristian Prenga After Knockdown Drama

Anthony Joshua may have earned a knockout win over Kristian Prenga but the fight certainly didn’t unfold as most people expected.

Joshua was facing the Albanian in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, and it looked like a massive upset could be on the cards when he was dropped twice in the opening round.

‘AJ’ was able to recover and went on to secure a second round knockout victory to prevent the shock lossseemingly paving the way for the battle against Tyson Fury later this year.

One man who was ringside to witness the battle was former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellewand he praised Joshua’s ability to turn things around in the fight after describing it as ‘chaos’.

“We predicted round two but I don’t think we foresaw that. That was chaos. He doesn’t see the uppercut coming and finds himself on the floor without knowing how he got there.

“The second one he did see it coming and he was able to clench down on the jaw. He got up and then the experience that he has he used tonight because he tied him up. Against Andy Ruiz he didn’t know what he was doing and didn’t know how to do that, but tonight he did.

“He showed once again there is no quit. To be that hurt in the first round and get up, that’s the recoveries of power. People talk about your chin, but it’s not, it’s the level of fitness that gets you up from the floor.

“When Joshua gets a fighter hurt he’s the best finisher in the division. Whenever he hurts someone they’re gone. I haven’t seen him drop anybody and they survive, only Andy Ruiz. He’s a ruthless finisher.”

The clash between Joshua and Fury is now expected to be announced soon for later this year, after Fury won his own interim fight on Friday by defeating Mariusz Wach.
