Romero raised WBA to the full champion after releasing Ennis

Image: Why the WBA's Potential Elevation of Rolando Romero to Super Champion Status is Drawing Criticism from Boxing Fans

WBA officially raised Rolando “Rolly” Romero from “ordinary” to the full master of welterweight after Jaron “Boots” Ennis leaves his title 147 pounds to go to 154.

Ennis releases, the roll floats

No wonder Rolly (17-2, 13 KO). It was expected that this move would occur when Ennis revealed that it was moving to the younger medium. Hardcore fans will be more worried about the fact that Romero is raised to the full WBA master than Dory. This is not a huge deal. Ennis was forced to get promoted because he tried to earn weight.

There is no real difference between the regular Romero from the full master. The same fights are available to him and is still seen as one of the two smaller masters aged 147. He always said that he wanted these two fighters:

  1. Manny Pacquiao
  2. Ryan Garcia

Rolly will not change his mind now when he was raised to the full WBA master. He focuses more on money than fighting the best. Fans would like Romero to fight the WBO master Brian Norman Jr. It is unlikely to ever do it because he is too good.

Romero does not match the label “Master of paper” Completely, but it is terribly close. He is a master only by name. The way he won the ordinary WBA belt was not against a sufficient opponent to make him a real master. He is called “Master E -Mail”.

Rolly won the title of WBA “Regular” 147-Funts, defeating Ryan Garcia, who never fought in welterweight. No win with a warrior with weight hurts Rolando’s credibility

Some fans believe that Ryan is kicking a losing to Romero, because he would now be raised to the full WBA champion at 147. This would mean more respect. Garcia has already said that the belts are not significant to him. I just want to take the best fights.

Heavyweight Champion Calls for Fabio Wardleys Retirement After Dubois Loss Due to Concerns Over Damage

"Heavyweight Champion Calls for Fabio Wardley’s Retirement After Dubois Loss Due to Concerns Over Damage"

Fabio Wardley has been advised to retire, due to both his second-round stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois and the overall damage he has incurred in recent years.

The 31-year-old returned to action yesterday evening, attempting to reclaim his WBO title after suffering a punishing 11th-round stoppage defeat to Dubois in May.

Wardley did, of course, manage to score two early knockdowns but, for the rest of their contest, the momentum was firmly in his opponent’s favour.

Many therefore made Dubois a sizable favourite ahead of their rematch, which saw a role reversal as it was the 29-year-old, this time, who floored his man within the first 20 seconds.

Somehow, Wardley regained his footing but was placed under increasing pressure, with his corner throwing in the towel following a sustained onslaught from Dubois.

As a result, Dubois retained his world heavyweight title and is now eager to secure a unification match, while the immediate future for Wardley seems far less obvious.

Speaking to Boxing Newsthough, IBF champion Filip Hrgovic said the Ipswich man should leave the sport while, financially, he is in a position to do so.

“I think he should retire. He didn’t look good; he made [a] bunch of money … he did miracle – he became world champion without amateur career.

“He received a lot of damage in his last five [to] six fights, and he should retire and enjoy [his life].

“Daniel Dubois start normal, with the jab – he didn’t do anything special. Wardley just wasn’t in a [good] place from the beginning.”

Indeed, very few expected that Wardley, who had just four white collar fights before turning professional, would go on to become a world champion.

Terence Crawford Discusses Christian Mbillis Potential to Defeat Canelo Alvarez

"Terence Crawford Discusses Christian Mbilli's Potential to Defeat Canelo Alvarez"

Terence Crawford has advised Christian Mbilli on what tactics to implement against Canelo Alvarezwith the two super-middleweights expected to collide on October 31.

Or at least, that seems to be the plan, with many surprised that the event is still going ahead in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the airport has been under attack in recent weeks.

A cancellation could therefore be on the cards but, if it does take place later this month, then Canelo will have the chance to reclaim his WBC title.

The Mexican lost his undisputed crown via a unanimous decision defeat to Crawfordwho moved up two weight divisions and produced a masterful performance in September 2025.

All four titles then became vacant following his retirement a few months later, with Mbilli getting upgraded from ‘interim’ to full WBC champion at 168lbs.

He too has not fought for over a year, as the Frenchman’s 10-round draw with Lester Martinez arrived on the Canelo-Crawford undercard.

But while both men are contending with a lack of activity, Canelo – based on his experience and superior skills – is widely considered to have the edge over Mbilli.

Speaking on the DAZN broadcast this weekend, Crawford agreed with the general consensus and, while not believing he can actually win the fight, has implored Mbilli to adopt a high-volume and rugged approach.

“Styles make fights, and his [Mbilli’s] style is tailor-made for Canelo. He can’t do nothing but press Canelo. I can’t see him beating Canelo in a boxing match.

“I think his best success will be letting his hands go, roughing Canelo up and making it a dog fight.”

It does, indeed, appear that Mbilli’s best option is to make it a battle of attrition, while Canelo may look to outbox his five-years-younger opponent.

Derek Chisora Urges Moses Itauma to Battle KO Artist Heavyweight in Comeback

"Derek Chisora Urges Moses Itauma to Battle KO Artist Heavyweight in Comeback"

Derek Chisora has named a heavyweight who he feels is the most appropriate comeback opponent for Moses Itauma to face in January.

According to promoter Frank Warren, the 21-year-old will return to action in the new year following his dramatic ninth-round stoppage defeat to Filip Hrgovic.

The pair squared off in August, with Itauma attempting to become the youngest world heavyweight champion since Mike Tyson dethroned Trevor Berbick in 1986.

After scoring an early knockdown and dominating the first eight rounds, however, the previously unbeaten prodigy was stopped on his feet and Hrgovic, instead, became the IBF champion.

As a result, the Croatian is expected to return to his home city of Zagreb and make a mandatory title defence against Frank Sanchez.

Itauma, meanwhile, could end up fighting in the same month of January, most likely against an opponent who is designed to rebuild his confidence.

Chisora, though, is keen for the southpaw to jump back into another 12-rounder, albeit while admitting that someone like Martin Bakole would be too great of a risk.

Instead, the heavyweight veteran has told media members, including Fight Hub TVthat British operators Frazer Clarke and Richard Riakporhe would make for suitable opponents.

“I wouldn’t put him in with Bakole yet. I think Frazer Clarke [could be an option]. [Or] he should fight Richard Riakporhe. That’s a good fight.”

Riakporhe, who has 16 knockouts from 20 wins, became the British heavyweight champion by dethroning Jeamie TKV with a fifth-round finish in April, while Clarke suffered a majority decision defeat to Justis Huni on the same card.

As for Bakole, the Congolese giant has not fought since his controversial draw with Efe Ajagba in May 2025.
