Lamont Roach says he will defeat WBC interim welterweight champion Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz in three days in their fight on Amazon Prime Video PPV on December 6.
Talk about a KO from a puncher who didn’t get KOed
Roach 25-1-2, 10 KO) states that he thinks he will knock out Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KO). WITH Rate 40% OROn Saturday, Lamont will have to sit down with his shots for his prediction to come true. He has never punched in his career and he is 30 years venerable.
Still haunted by Tank
Three days before the game, Roach still mostly talks about Gervonta Davis in his interviews. This week, in three separate interviews, he spent time talking about fighting tanks.
It’s as if he was still haunted by the fact that he didn’t get the victory and then missed the rematch. He sounds like a fisherman reliving the memory of… substantial fish that got away. He can’t stop talking about the Tanki fight and hasn’t worked through it internally yet. Let’s hope Roach isn’t still daydreaming about Davis during Saturday’s battle with Cruz.
Shakur Fantasy Reservation
Roach also talks a lot about how he believes he can fight Shakur Stevenson after defeating Teofimo Lopez. He says this is the most significant fight at 135 pounds. These are two defensive players. It won’t be as intriguing as Shakur fighting Abdullah Mason or Floyd Schofield.
“I win very convincingly. Pitbull is a tough cookie. Do I think I can stop him? Yes. But if I don’t, don’t get mad at me,” Lamont Roach said to Ariel Helwani YouTube channel about his fight against Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz this Saturday night.
Cruz is not Hector Garcia
If Roach handles Pitbull Cruz like he did Hector Luis Garcia and Jamel Herring, he could lose. He narrowly defeated Hector by a razor-fast 12-round decision in 2023. The referee gave Roach credit for a rabbit knockdown in the 12th round, where he clipped Hector in the head. Without that knockdown, he wouldn’t have won that fight.
This performance showed Roach’s limits as a fighter. He also didn’t perform well against Jamel Herring in 2019, where he lost to him.
“I feel like it was the best fight that showed up, and I’m not a miniature guy. 140 isn’t too far out of my range,” Roach said when asked why he decided to move up to welterweight. “Pitbull Cruz is the interim world champion. Once I beat him, I’ll be in line to become the 140-pound champion.
“Not at all. I have unfinished business,” Roach said when asked if he was done with 135.
Roach appears to be talking about his hope that Tank Davis will fight him again. It is unlikely that he will do this because he can make more money fighting other lightweights. He’s not going to waste any of the last fights left before he fights Roach.
