Richard Torrez Jr says fans overlooked Xander Zayas

Richard Torrez Jr. believes fans are not paying attention to Xander Zayas preparing for his fight against Jaron Ennis on June 27.

Torrez, who trains under the same Top Rank banner as Zayas, said he was surprised how quickly many fans dismissed the undefeated junior middleweight champion against Ennis, widely viewed as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing.

“I think people underestimate Xander so much. To me, it’s crazy,” Torrez said in an interview with Fighting Hub TV. “All the people are saying, ‘Xander’s not ready for Boots. Boots will wash him away’. Xander’s a world champion, like a multiple world champion.”

Torrez said many fans don’t pay attention to Zayas because of his age rather than what he has already accomplished in the ring.

“I think people just overlook him because he’s so adolescent,” Torrez said. “I give it to Xander. I think his boxing skills, his ring IQ, his presence, his size, it’s going to be demanding for anyone to beat him.”

The undefeated heavyweight also provided a technical analysis of how he thinks Zayas could cause trouble for Ennis.

“I think Xander needs to pass out and knock Boots out of his rhythm,” Torrez said. “I’d like to see Xander continue his lateral movement. Being able to force him to get his feet up and move will take him out of his counter-attacking game.

Torrez added that Ennis appears dominant, due in part to the style of fights he has received in recent fights, although he continued to praise Ennis as one of boxing’s elite fighters.

“I think Boots is an amazing player,” Torrez said. “But I think it will be a different fight with Xander because this guy doesn’t fit the status quo of the last few fighters Boots has fought.”

Zayas and Ennis are expected to meet in one of the biggest fights of the summer, and many fans already consider Ennis the clear favorite.

Daniel Dubois admits he is surprised when Fabio Wardley triggers his immediate rematch clause

Daniel Dubois admits surprise after Fabio Wardley triggers immediate rematch clause

Daniel Dubois is set to defend his WBO heavyweight title against Fabio Wardley after the Ipswich fighter activated a rematch clause in his contract.

The two British fighters engaged in one of the most invigorating and brutal heavyweight fights in recent memory, with Dubois surviving two knockdowns early in the fight to take control and outwork Wardley until he was stopped by the referee in the eleventh round.

I’m talking to Boxing King’s MediaDubois thought about winning for the first time.

“I thought, ‘Yep, I’ve proven you guys wrong again.’ It was just a win for me, my dad, my team, my whole circle, it was just a win [satisfying] victory for them. I know all the strenuous work they put in behind the scenes.

Given the injuries Wardley suffered during the fight, many believed he could take a break from the sport to recover or take a more stable path back to title contention. Ultimately, however, the chance to regain the belt he won after defeating Joseph Parker last year proved too good to pass up.

Asked if he was surprised that Wardley chose to exercise the clause, Dubois admitted there was some uncertainty about the challenger’s intentions.

“A little bit [surprised]. We’ll see, it could be a tactical move, you never know… I’m ready for whatever comes next.

Promoter Frank Warren says fans will see the rematch in 2026 and believes it is currently huge enough to fill the stadium. Wherever it happens, there is no doubt that both men deserve to have as many eyes on their rivalry as possible given what was left in the ring last time out.

Tank Davis mocks Richardson Hitchins over Shakur Post

Image: Richardson Hitchins roasted by fans after quitting 140 for 147 move

Gervonta Davis publicly mocked Richardson Hitchins after the former IBF junior welterweight champion shared a post expressing his appreciation for Shakur Stevenson.

A screenshot circulating on social media shows Gervonta commenting on Hitchins’ Instagram post, writing:

“Your Ass, the Biggest”

The exchange quickly caught the attention of boxing fans, many of whom noted that Tank Davis and Hitchins were once close.

When Hitchins goes out of his way to praise Shakur Stevenson, who just shook up the division by defeating Teofimo Lopez, it’s a direct boost to Gervonta. He and Shakur have been around each other for a long time, so any ally of yours praising your main rival will feel like a betrayal.

The fact that Tank and Hitchins were tight makes the cut a little deeper. Tank is said to have helped him with money and contacts in the past, so seeing Hitchins publicly fanboying over Shakur would probably make him feel completely disrespectful. Tank basically calls him a power chaser with this “biggest”. [fan/rider]” comment.

The funniest part of this whole situation is how quickly Hitchins deleted the post when Tank showed up in the comments. This tells you everything you need to know about dynamics. This may not lead to a fight in the ring any time soon, as Hitchins is scheduled to make his Zuffa Boxing debut on July 26, but that senior friendship is completely dead.

While there is no indication that Tank and Hitchins are heading towards a fight, a recent social media photo showed how much their relationship has deteriorated since the days when Davis was considered one of Hitchins’ biggest supporters.

Tim Bradley predicts Canelo vs. Christian Mbilli: “It’s going to be bad”

Tim Bradley predicts Canelo’s comeback fight vs Christian Mbilli: “It’s gonna be bad”

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez looks to regain a share of the super middleweight crown in September when he faces WBC champion Christian Mbilli.

Canelo lost all four belts to Terence Crawford in 2025, suffering his first loss at 168 pounds and only his third overall after losses to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.

When Crawford retired, the belts fell apart, and interim WBC titleholder Mbilli was one of the first to benefit. Having risen from interim to full champion, Mbilli now faces the biggest fight of his career against one of the sport’s up-to-date greats.

I’m talking to Fighting the noiseHall of Fame fighter Tim Bradley said he sees the fight only going one way, believing Mbilla’s aggressive style will be a golden opportunity for Alvarez to remind the boxing world of his quality and result in a comprehensive victory.

“He’s going to bust Mbilli’s ass. I like Mbilli – tough guy, come and hurt. It’s going to be a hell of a fight, but Canelo will be grabbing him and shooting him in the ass all night long. Uppercuts, hooks… Oh, it’s going to be bad.”

“Canelo looks like he’s He-Man. He’ll look like he’s back.”

The fight culminating in the “Mexico vs. the World” gala will take place on September 12 in Riyad, Saudi Arabia. While the card is yet to be set, the fight could feature Canelo’s former rival-turned-training partner and modern WBA super middleweight champion Jaime Munguia.

If Alvarez wins, he won’t face Munguia for unification, but there will be no shortage of opponents. Other masters Osleys Iglesias and Both Hamzah Sheeraz have made it clear that they want to take a shot at the man many still consider to be the face of boxinglining up some intriguing options at 168 pounds. Mbilli, of course, intends to put an end to these plans before they begin.
