Richard Torrez Jr. he says the fight with Sanchez shows his skills
Published

Richard Torrez Jr. says he expects his pressure and fitness to be a major factor in Saturday’s match against Frank Sanchez in Egypt. Torrez believes Sanchez is unsafe early in the match, especially with his jab and counter right hand, but believes the fight becomes increasingly challenging for the Cuban as the rounds go on.
“I think Frank is great at putting you to sleep. He gives you one jab, that one jab, and then he throws two really swift and difficult jabs. I have to pay attention to that,” Torrea Jr. said. in an interview with Sport Boxing.
“I think the difference between me and Frank is that Frank has a one-shot chance, and if he doesn’t, it’s going to be a terrible fight for him. For me, it’s that pressure. It’s perseverance, and as the rounds go on, that’s where I make my money.”
Torrez also said the fight could give him a chance to show more of his boxing skills, rather than just being seen as an aggressive, pressure fighter. The undefeated heavyweight added that he sees himself as part of a modern generation that will take the American heavyweight division forward.
“I think Frank has a great opportunity for me to showcase my boxing skills better because I need to bring them out. I’m very excited for this fight to show that I can really box too,” Torrez Jr. said.
“The heavyweight division is very volatile right now. You never know who’s going to be on top. It seems to change every month. I really want to put us in the US and say we’re here to stay, too.”
Later in the interview, Torrez praised Oleksandr Usyk as a role model for smaller heavyweights and welcomed the idea of a future fight with Moses Itauma.
“Oleksandr Usyk was definitely a role model for me as well. He really knocked on the door of a lot of smaller heavyweights,” Torrez Jr. said.
“I think so [Moses Itauma] he is a great fighter. He’s swift, he’s swift, he has amazing capabilities, but again, I don’t think he’s fought a fighter like me.”
In closing, Torrez made it clear how highly he rates himself heading into the biggest fight of his professional career.
“I’m extremely confident in my abilities. I wouldn’t be in this game anymore if I didn’t think I was the best. I believe I’m the best in boxing and I’m here to prove it,” Torrez Jr. said.

Dana White Warns of Deontay Wilders Threat to Prime Opetaia in Upcoming Match
Published

October 12, 2026
Jai Opetaia’s proposed fight with Deontay Wilder looks like a mismatch between a prime cruiserweight and a 40-year-old former champion with four defeats in his last seven fights. Dana White wants to sell Wilder’s punching power, but selling his ability to survive Opetaia’s speed and combination punching is another story entirely.
White says that Opetaia looks set for the Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua undercard on December 11 in Cardiff, naming Wilder as an active target. The bout remains unconfirmed.
“Jai Opetaia is more than likely going to be on the undercard. [Wilder] is one that we’ve been talking about and working on,” White said to Sky Sports. “The guy’s willing to fight anybody.”
White labeled the pairing “a very dangerous fight for him considering where he sits in his division right now.”
That view leans heavily on Wilder’s signature right hand while glossing over his recent slide. Now 40, Wilder has dropped four of his last seven outings. His stature rests on past triumphs, whereas this assignment requires coping with Opetaia’s modern rhythm, quick feet, and fluid combinations.
Raw power guarantees Wilder a puncher’s chance, yet that alone will not keep him in the contest. He must locate openings, release his shots under fire, and withstand incoming heat. Against Opetaia, every phase of that task presents real trouble.
Opetaia creates angles rather than standing stationary to absorb incoming fire. If Wilder hesitates, the Australian will bank rounds, land heavy volume, and leave the audience waiting on a counter that never lands.
The commercial upside for Opetaia makes complete sense. Wilder brings global brand value, so defeating him on a massive stadium platform elevates the Australian’s profile while placing a former heavyweight titleholder on his ledger.
Still, any victory carries context. Overcoming a faded veteran provides little indication of how Opetaia might handle the heavyweight division’s elite.
Promoters can market the sudden threat of one clean shot, but every boxing fundamental tilts toward Opetaia.

Callum Smith vs Dmitry Bivol: Fans Anticipate Exciting Trilogy Showdown

Matchroom has confirmed that Dmitry Bivol will put his unified light heavyweight titles on the line against Callum Smith at the UMMC Arena in Yekaterinburg, Russia, on December 12. While locking in a date settles months of speculation, the matchup puts the division’s biggest business on hold.
Smith gets his crack at the belts, but anyone holding out for Bivol to finally resolve his rivalry with Artur Beterbiev has to sit through an unwanted detour. Matchroom’s energetic pitch works well enough for fans tracking Smith’s path to a shot. It does far less for anyone wanting the ultimate 175-pound conclusion.
Smith earned his spot fairly when he beat Joshua Buatsi. The trouble comes down to the gap between a legitimate title defense and the bout everyone is dying to see. A third chapter between Bivol and Beterbiev would settle the score after two razor-close wars. Even a pairing with David Benavidez brings ferocious volume punching.
Smith brings none of that buzz. He came up short against Canelo Alvarez, got halted by Beterbiev, and still has to prove he can topple an elite fighter.
His long layoff makes the promotion an even tougher sell. Smith has been out of the ring since taking down Buatsi in February 2025. By fight night, that victory will be nearly two years in the rearview mirror. Sitting on a ranking preserved his title shot, but it killed his momentum.
Bivol brings his own question marks after back surgery led to an extended layoff. That provides Smith a theoretical opening, yet banking on a champion’s decline is a flimsy basis for predicting an upset.
Smith possesses legitimate size, strong range, and a dangerous left hook. Still, he must force Bivol to work at his tempo, which looks like a massive task against the champion’s crisp footwork and sharp, measured offense.
It amounts to a respectable title defense with a heavy favorite. Smith’s camp can celebrate the booking, but pinning a date on the calendar does not make this the blockbuster light heavyweight needs. Bivol and Beterbiev have unsettled business, and this bout kicks that can down the road.

Daniel Dubois Must Improve Start to Overcome Fabio Wardley Challenge

Daniel Dubois needs a sharper performance against Fabio Wardley on Saturday, with trainer Don Charles promising a “more clinical job” from the WBO heavyweight champion in their rematch.
The WBO heavyweight titleholder makes his defense on October 17 at London’s O2 Arena. Charles feels the champion enters this rematch riding high on confidence, though promises of precision have to translate into shutting down Wardley’s avenues of attack.
“We’re expecting, like I said, a better version of Fabio, and we’re definitely going to bring a better version of ourselves,” Charles said to talkSPORT Boxing.
Dubois genuinely needs those adjustments. His initial trouble against Wardley proved perilous the moment the challenger found clean openings. Grabbing victory the first time around does not guarantee success if he walks the exact same path on Saturday.
Wardley let a real opportunity slip by failing to capitalize after landing significant blows. That remains the chief danger Dubois must counter, facing an opponent who acts decisively instead of granting the champion breathing room to recover his timing.
Charles recognizes the tactical shifts Wardley brings.
“He’s a very dangerous guy,” Charles noted. “We prepared for a better version of Fabio.”
Interestingly, the trainer claims Dubois is operating at only 80 percent capacity, leaving substantial room to grow. He points to a calmer champion who grinded through camp while keeping his competitive edge razor sharp.
“We’ve trained as if with the hunger of a challenger,” Charles explained.
Self-belief serves Dubois well, yet it cannot substitute for disciplined guard work under fire. He has to assert his power without hanging out to dry against incoming counters.
Charles is convinced Dubois leaves the ring with his belt after a faster finish. Still, Wardley’s capacity to learn and adapt threatens to complicate those plans. A refined Dubois likely repeats his triumph, but recycling old defensive blunders offers Wardley the exact ticket to an upset.
