Raymond Muratalla defends his IBF lightweight world title against Andy Cruz in Las Vegas
Raymond Muratalla successfully defended his IBF lightweight world title against Andy Cruz in Las Vegas.
Cruz entered the fight against Muratalla as the favorite, despite having only had six professional fights prior to the fight.
Muratalla (24-0, 17 KO) used his experience for 12 rounds and constantly put pressure on Cruz (6-1, 3 KO), not allowing him to composed down.
It was a close fight in which both fighters were successful. The fight began to heat up in the third round when the champion landed several powerful body shots while Cruz was forced to the ropes.
Cruz began to have more success midway through the contest, often causing Muratalla to swing and miss.
Most of the rounds could have been scored either way, with the lively between both fighters changing throughout.
Two judges gave the nod to the defending champion at 118-110 and 116-112, while the third tied it at 114-114.
The competition could be scored in any way, so the card of 118-110 seemed very wide.

Some of the best fighters in the world took to social media to react to the Muratalla vs. Cruz fight, including WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney.
“It was a good fight. Andy is nothing to worry about, especially since he has only had six fights. He will definitely bounce back.”

Former lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson has revealed he is eyeing the main event winner for his next fight after next Saturday’s fight against Teofimo Lopez.
“Yes, yes, definitely [I want the winner]. I plan on getting back to 135 pounds. I’m not a 140-pound fighter. I’ve said it a million times and people can run with whatever they want, but after this fight, if I don’t get a gigantic fight, I’ll go back to 135 pounds.”

On Wednesday, Lewis Crocker heads to Australia to defend his IBF welterweight world title against Liam Paro for the first time.
Crocker will face Paro at the Pat Rafter Arena in Queensland, live on DAZN in the UK and Kayo Sports in Australia.

Paro (27-1, 16 KO) is trying to become a world champion in two weight categories, having previously reigned in the super-lightweight division.
The 30-year-old won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Subriel Matias in Puerto Rico before winning the belt in his first defense against Richardson Hitchins.
The Australian has since won twice, overtaking David Papot in his last appearance in September.

McKean meets Taliva
Heavyweight Demsey McKean will look to continue his rebuild when he faces Liam Talivaa for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title.

Talivaa (8-2, 4 KO) last won the IBF Oceania-Orient title, defeating Faiga Opelu by first-round stoppage.
