This is the live blog for Mateusz Gamrot vs. Quillan Salkilld, the lightweight main event for Saturday's UFC Vegas 120 fight card at the newly renovated Meta APEX in Las Vegas.

Gamrot enters the headliner after flip-flopping wins and losses over his past five bouts. In his most recent outing, the former KSW champion submitted Esteban Ribovics with an arm-triangle choke in the second round at UFC 327 in April. This will be Gamrot's third UFC headliner, going 1-1 in octagon main events with a decision win over Arman Tsarukyan, and suffering a first-round stoppage loss to Charles Oliveira this past October at UFC Rio.

Salkilld gets his first UFC main event spot after winning his first five bouts inside the octagon. The 26-year-old has stopped four of his five opponents and earning four bonuses — including his first-round TKO victory against Beneil Dariush at UFC Perth in May.

According to FanDuel, Quillan Salkilld closes as a slight favorite at -144, while the comeback on Mateusz Gamrot is +122.

Salkilld is a very fun and skilled fighter with a super bright future at lightweight. He's looked really good, and he's shown some low-key fight IQ things that most aren't able to pick up — from luring opponents into standup exchanges he wants, and even with his defensive grappling abilities. However, the experience difference concerns me, especially against a guy like Gamrot who has fought the best the division has to offer, and makes very few mistakes.

Joe Pyfer got his big step-up moment, and got taught a vet lesson by Jack Hermansson — but one he learned a lot from. I feel as if Salkilld is about to get his first, super valuable UFC lesson to learn handed to him tonight. The pick is Gamrot via submission in Round 3.

Salkilld out first and is ready to go. Here comes Gamrot to “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark†by Fall Out Boy, and the crowd in the newly renovated APEX seems to enjoy it.

We're off! They march to the center of the octagon, Gamrot lands a nice counter right hand after Salkilld lands a jab, leg kick as well. Salkilld lands another nice jab and Gamrot shoots a single. Salkilld trying to defend and doing a nice job of it getting in a top position on the ground. Gamrot back to the feet and they clinch against the fence.

Gamrot going for a heel hook and it looks tight. Salkilld shaking his head, and eventually rolls out of it. Back to the feet they go and Salkilld just misses with a kick. Gamrot, I'm sure, knew he'd have to go through the fire early, and he is. Salkilld shoots a takedown and gets it. Wow! Salkilld going for the back and rear-naked choke, Gamrot scrambles. Salkilld throws his legs up, Gamrot trying to turn in, but Salkilld doing a spectacular job keeping position.

Salkilld puts the hooks in and locks in the RNC and it's TIGHT. Gamrot taps! What a performance. Salkilld is for real, for real!

Post-Fight: Salkilld says the top-5 better watch out while he loves his performance. No callout, but says he wants a top-5 guy — but there's just no chance he gets it.

Yadier del Valle spoiled Darren Elkins' retirement at UFC Vegas 120 on Saturday after connecting with a brutal left hand that ended their fight just 35 seconds into the opening round.

After fending off a kick but coming up short on a takedown, Elkins was already dealing with immense pressure from del Valle. The end came just seconds later when del Valle uncorked a hellacious left hand that sent Elkins crashing to the canvas in a heap.

A few more strikes were landed on the ground but the referee quickly rushed in to rescue Elkins from further harm with del Valle getting the first-round finish.

“Please for everyone a round of applause for Darren Elkins,†del Valle said after his win. “This was one of the hardest camps I've had. This is the first thing. So I was ready for this.â€

While certainly not the ending he wanted, Elkins already vowed that Saturday night would be the final fight of his career — win, lose or draw.

Throughout his career, Elkins displayed heart and durability like few ever have in the sport and his willingness to step through the fire in every single fight absolutely defined his career.

“Gratitude,†Elkins said about how he was feeling after laying his gloves down in the octagon. “I didn't love how this ended but that's life. I'm going to keep going. I can't lose in life. I'm happy.

“This has been a journey. Almost 17 years. I never thought I'd still be doing it at 42 years old. I always left in the cage. Sometimes it didn't go my way but keep going.â€

Elkins retires with a 29-13 record including a record for the most bouts in UFC featherweight history with 29 including four post-fight bonuses and the second most wins in the history of the 145-pound division with 18.
