PFL CEO slams 'misinformation' surrounding Usman Nurmagomedov's potential UFC signing

Professional Fighters League superstar Usman Nurmagomedov, cousin of UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov, is arguably the biggest name to hit MMA free agency in years. Nurmagomedov most recently defended the PFL lightweight title by brutally knocking out Archie Colgan at PFL New York.
UFC CEO Dana White raised eyebrows when he admitted that the promotion is interested in adding Nurmagomedov to its lightweight division. Many believe it's a foregone conclusion that Nurmagomedov will sign with the UFC instead of re-signing with the PFL.
But the top PFL executive revealed that notion is misleading, and that the league is in the process of negotiating a mega deal with Nurmagomedov.

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, PFL CEO John Martin was asked about Nurmagomedov's future and how confident he is that he will return to the league.

“There is so much misinformation. The UFC has not given him an offer. They're not legally allowed to. We have an exclusive negotiating period. We're putting together an offer, and we're going to sit down and talk with them. I think our offer will be competitive,†Martin said of Nurmagomedov's free agency.
“It's really up to him. We would love to have him. We would love to keep him… I do have to say, it's a little bit funny… I started saying a year ago, ‘This guy is one of the best lightweights in the world,' and I think people were almost mocking me. The original speculation was that he wouldn't even be top 15 in the UFC… Now I find it kind of ironic that he is being paraded around like he's the salvation of mixed martial arts.
“I mean, he's a terrific talent, and we would love to keep him and work with him,†Martin continued on Nurmagomedov. “We'd love for him to be a meaningful part of our promotion. If he chooses that's not the path he wants to take, then we have a lot of great fighters here, and it's a dynamic ecosystem.â€

Shevchenko</a> out due to injury and the title vacant, Natalia
Silva and Cong Wang will compete for the 125-pound championship.
The card also features several notable names, including former
champions Deiveson Figueiredo and Rafael dos Anjos, who enter their
respective matchups as sizable underdogs.</p><p/><h2>Payton Talbott is -575 against former UFC champion Deiveson
Figueiredo</h2>

favorite against Wang (+165). Silva is riding a 14-fight winning
streak and is unbeaten in the UFC, while Wang enters the matchup on
a four-fight winning streak.<p>Payton Talbott enters UFC 332 as the largest favorite on the card.

Figueiredo, who is a +425 underdog. Damian Pinas and promotional

Felder was on commentary duty at Meta Apex in Las Vegas for the
latest Fight Night. The main event, which was a back-and-forth
battle, ended in frightening fashion as Barcelos appeared to go
limp during a wrestling exchange against the Octagon wall in the
final round. The referee immediately stopped the contest, and
Barcelos was removed from the Octagon on a stretcher and
transported to a hospital.
It was later confirmed that Barcelos was conscious and responsive.
For Felder, the moments after the finish remain unforgettable.

‘I thought he had a heart attack'
Speaking on the “Believe You Me†podcast, Felder recalled his
immediate reaction while watching the medical team attend to
Barcelos. The former fighter was alarmed when he saw a doctor check
Barcelos' pulse, something he said he had never witnessed in
similar circumstances.
“His neck was all clinched up and he was unconscious,†Felder said.
“And it looked like he was — I thought he had a heart attack, off
the bat. Then they came in, and they checked his pulse, which was
terrifying to see. I have never seen somebody that was KO'd, where
they come in and the first thing they did, the doctor put his
fingers right on Raoni's pulse. I was like, ‘Oh, this is really
bad.â€
Felder said the uncertainty continued as Barcelos remained
motionless.
“He was just not getting up and then I'm thinking, ‘Is it a stroke?
Is it a heart attack?'†Felder added. “But if they weren't doing
CPR and his pulse was at least there and present and he's
breathing, probably not a heart attack.â€
Barcelos reportedly remains under medical supervision but has
addressed fans on social media, assuring them that he is doing
well.

Raoni Barcelos says he’s ‘really fine’ following frightening UFC stoppage

Raoni
Barcelos has provided a positive update after a frightening
conclusion to his
Ultimate Fighting Championship main event clash against
Raul
Rosas Jr.
Barcelos was stopped in the fifth round on Saturday at Meta Apex
after appearing to go limp during an exchange with Rosas Jr. in the
UFC Vegas 121 headliner. He was subsequently removed from the
Octagon on a stretcher and transported to a hospital for
evaluation. It was later reported that Barcelos was conscious, and
the UFC subsequently confirmed that he was stable, alert and
responsive.
The Brazilian veteran has now addressed fans directly.

Barcelos provided an update in the comments section of a post on
the UFC Brazil Instagram account.
“Hello everyone, I just want to say to all of you that I’m really
fine and as soon as possible I’ll do a video for you guys,â€
Barcelos wrote. “I promised a great fight and delivered. Thank you,
God and everyone that fought with me inside and outside of that
Octagon.â€
Barcelos' coach, Davi Ramos,
also previously reassured fans that the Brazilian was doing well
while undergoing further medical checks. Barcelos reportedly
remains under medical supervision.
