Ortiz-Ennis talks stalled as business concerns prevailed

On the promotional side, the tone has become tougher. Oscar De La Hoya has said he is ready to leave after receiving no response from Ennis promoter Eddie Hearn over the proposed division of the purse. This public stance can be influential or a real signal that patience is running out. Either way, it moved the discussion from waiting to exhaustion.

Ortiz’s manager, Rick Mirigian, rejected the idea of ending the talks, saying he remained authorized to negotiate directly. This detail matters. This suggests that the fight is not so much dead as mismanaged, trapped between camps and waiting for the other side to blink.

Analysts largely agree on one thing. Fighters are not the problem. Chris Algieri described the situation as a standard negotiation impasse shaped by ego and conflicting interests. Paulie Malignaggi was less diplomatic, arguing that Ortiz has already shown a willingness to take risks, while Ennis is now under greater pressure to demonstrate the same intentions.

The broader junior middleweight landscape offers no relief. All four main title holders have already been booked. Xander Zayas, Abass Baraou and Bakhram Murtazaliev are scheduled to fight in January, and Sebastian Fundora is scheduled to face Keith Thurman in behind schedule spring. Ortiz holds the interim belt with no clear goal. Ennis is modern to the weight and is still waiting for a specific assignment.

Speculation filled the space. In addition to Tim Tszyu, Errol Spence Jr. was mentioned, and Jermell Charlo will be a theoretical option in the event of a division reshuffle. Even Garcia doubted whether these paths made sense today.

There is also peaceful talk of outside funds stepping in to force progress, with Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh mentioned as a possible bridge. Given the strained relationships behind the scenes, it’s unclear whether that path still exists.

For now, Ortiz vs. Ennis remains the obvious fight that no one can finalize. Boxing has a long history of allowing clarity during ongoing negotiations. This situation is starting to look like another entry on this list.

Tony Bellew Reviews Anthony Joshua's Comeback Victory Over Kristian Prenga After Knockdown Drama

Anthony Joshua may have earned a knockout win over Kristian Prenga but the fight certainly didn’t unfold as most people expected.

Joshua was facing the Albanian in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, and it looked like a massive upset could be on the cards when he was dropped twice in the opening round.

‘AJ’ was able to recover and went on to secure a second round knockout victory to prevent the shock lossseemingly paving the way for the battle against Tyson Fury later this year.

One man who was ringside to witness the battle was former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellewand he praised Joshua’s ability to turn things around in the fight after describing it as ‘chaos’.

“We predicted round two but I don’t think we foresaw that. That was chaos. He doesn’t see the uppercut coming and finds himself on the floor without knowing how he got there.

“The second one he did see it coming and he was able to clench down on the jaw. He got up and then the experience that he has he used tonight because he tied him up. Against Andy Ruiz he didn’t know what he was doing and didn’t know how to do that, but tonight he did.

“He showed once again there is no quit. To be that hurt in the first round and get up, that’s the recoveries of power. People talk about your chin, but it’s not, it’s the level of fitness that gets you up from the floor.

“When Joshua gets a fighter hurt he’s the best finisher in the division. Whenever he hurts someone they’re gone. I haven’t seen him drop anybody and they survive, only Andy Ruiz. He’s a ruthless finisher.”

The clash between Joshua and Fury is now expected to be announced soon for later this year, after Fury won his own interim fight on Friday by defeating Mariusz Wach.
