Oleksandr Utyka swore to fight in his native country of Ukraine once again before retiring.
Usyk (23-0, 14 KO) takes over Daniel Dubois for the second time on July 19 at the London Wembley stadium for the unquestionable heavyweight championship.
While it has a long list of distinctions – including Olympic gold and many world titles in two divisions – there is one more thing that the Utyk wants to break before retiring: the fight for the family.
“I don’t hope … I know it will be so,” said Usyk, asked by ESPN if he hopes that he will fight in Ukraine again.
“I will finish everything I start to do and everything I started to the end.”
Despite the fact that he became the world champion in the Cruiser’s weight in 2016, before he began to conquer the heavyweight division, Usyk has not been fighting Ukraine since 2015.
Russia full invasion of the country in 2022 stopped all plans that the 38-year-old could fight in front of his home fans.
“He talks a lot about it. I really want the war to be over. Nobody wants the war to end than we, Ukrainians,” said Usyk.
“We understand the meaning of the war, it dispersed us all over the world. Yes, I train here [Spain] Now, because I can’t train in Kiev. This is not safe and sound.
“I could actually [train there]But sparring partners will not come. We are really waiting for the end of the war, but it must end in a way that will not start from three to five years. “
After the invasion, Usyk joined the Territorial Defense Forces together with the former world champion in three weight Vasiliy Lomachenko.
His compatriot asked Usyk to return to the ring and raised the spirits of the country.
He did not have the luxury of the fight at home by other masters, but the Usyk record in Great Britain and against British fighters makes the sinister reading of Dubois before the rematch.
Usyk defeated Tony Bellew and Derek Chisory in England and has two wins, respectively over Anthony Joshua in England and Saudi Arabia.
In the last three fights he beat Dubois twice in Poland and Tyson Fury, both in Saudi Arabia.
