NYC Buzz builds: Canelo-Scull Conference Tomorrow Marx starting the undisputed championship journey
Published
1 year agoon
The super medium weight master, Canelo Alvarez and William Scull, will conduct a press conference tomorrow, on March 6 at Radio City Music Hall in Up-to-date York, to start promoting their unquestioned 168-Funtów 3rd Championships on May 3 in Riyadh.
Road to Crawford
SCULL is a target of Canelo to prepare it to fight Terenka Crawford on September 13. Alvarez also needs Sculla to capture the belt to keep the unquestioned championship when he faces Crawford (41-0, 31 KO).
The Thursday press conference will start at 18:00 et. It is not clear how they will sell Canelo-Scull fight with fans in American Scull, he does not speak English and is not well known, and fans who know about him feel that he is a master only by name. He is the owner of the belt and this is its only value.
Based on the ponderous card, Martin Bakole and Efe Ajagba will fight. Depending on who is on the card, this fight can easily steal the program. Canelo must enhance her game after the last two fights with Jaime Munguia and Edgar Barang. In both competitions, Canelo stared after four rounds and took many necessary penalties towards pretenders that David Benavidez or David Morrell would erase.
Retirement trip?
I hate to say it, but literally there is no demand for this fight. Turks Alalshikh should have put Canelo feet and force him to fight someone good whose fans want to see instead of this guy.
Canelo is now so prosperous and his estimated fortune in the amount of $ 250 million that there is no hunger to take risky fights that fans want to see. He is like a damaged battle a soldier who left the front line and does not want a fight. Alvarez shows signs of battle fatigue and basically decides to stay behind, cleaning rifles and cooking. That’s what is fighting.
Some people think that this is only part of the Alvarez pension route to make sure that he is still winning until he disconnects the gloves. Although the Cuban headlamp is undefeated and technically IBF champion, he looked worse than terrible, capturing his title with a poorly 12-round unanimous victory over Vladimir Shishkin on October 19 last year in Stadthalle, Falkensee, Germany.
Many fans, including this writer, believed that Shishkin deserved to win this fight. I saw Shishkin win 10-2. Scull is ponderous, feeble and has a low work rate. What he looked like in this fight, he lost to the last two opponents Canelo, Edgar Berlang and Jaime Munguia.
Having all four lanes on the line will be one of the Canelo-Crawford combat sales points. It allows Crawford to try to become a three -part unquestioned champion. Fans of free boxing do not care if there is one belt or four rates for Canelo-Crawford fight, and Hardcore fans do not consider it significant. It would be better if no lanes were on the Canelo vs. fight line. Crawford. Do this exhibition,
Canelo Alvarez and William Scull will meet tomorrow at a public press conference at 18:00 ET at Radio City Music Hall in Up-to-date York before the fight for the title in the Riyadh season on May 3 in Saudi Arabia.

Conor Benns Strategy: Pressure Attack Ahead of Ryan Garcia Showdown
Published
8 hours agoon
September 1, 2026
Conor Benn’s team believes sustained aggression can break Ryan Garcia when they meet on September 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Manager Keith Connolly expects Benn to concede early rounds before wearing down Garcia in the first defense of his WBC welterweight title. He compared the plan to Filip Hrgovic’s victory over Moses Itauma.
“It’s going to be exactly the same. My guy’s going to be in tremendous shape. Ryan Garcia is a great fighter, but my guy’s going to bully him. He’s going to bully him all over the ring. He might lose some rounds like Filip did, but he’s going to wear him out and knock him out,” said Connolly to Pro Boxing Fans.
That comparison gives Benn a simple blueprint, but following it brings considerable danger. Hrgovic covered up against Itauma, survived the early assault, and waited for an inexperienced heavyweight to exhaust himself. Garcia has far more professional experience and does not need to throw every punch with maximum force.

Taking the aggressive role brings its own danger. Benn frequently lunges with his weight loaded over his front foot, leaving his chin exposed as he closes distance. Garcia’s short counter left hook is designed to punish opponents who charge along a straight line. One mistimed entry may stop Benn before he establishes the physical fight his team wants.
Trouble develops once Garcia is trapped against the ropes. He sometimes stands upright, turns away from punches, or relies on the shoulder roll without protecting himself from looping shots. Benn can exploit those habits if he cuts off the ring at an angle and reaches the inside without being clipped.
The proposed knockout also requires Benn to recover power that has disappeared from his recent results. He has gone five consecutive fights without a stoppage since finishing Chris van Heerden in April 2022. Peter Dobson, Chris Eubank Jr., and Regis Prograis all took his best punches without being stopped, although Eubank hit the canvas twice in their rematch.
Maintaining that pace becomes harder after Benn’s drop back to 147 pounds. He has described the cut as brutal after competing at middleweight and a 150-pound catchweight. Any loss of strength, punch resistance, or late-round stamina directly challenges the belief that Benn will be the fresher fighter.
Mistakes can be forced, but Benn must survive Garcia’s fastest weapon long enough to wear him down.

Noel Mikaelian Critiques Opetaias Fear Factor Marketing Strategy
Published
9 hours agoon
September 1, 2026

“I think that’s also a big marketing point that you’re mentioning there, that nobody wants to fight him. I see a lot of fighters challenging him and other fighters. I think that’s just marketing to say, ‘Nobody wants to fight this guy.’ This is prizefighting, and everybody wants to fight anyone for the biggest prize,” Mikaelian said to Fight Hub TV.
That choice supports his case. The WBC ordered him to defend against David Benavidez in May, yet he accepted an immediate fight with Opetaia rather than wait for that event to be finalized. His title status remains uncertain, but taking this bout is hardly the behavior of someone intimidated by Opetaia’s reputation.
Calling a boxer “avoided” is one of the sport’s oldest promotional devices. It elevates the favored fighter without requiring victories over every available contender. Television platforms, purses, and promotional control often prevent major fights long before fear becomes relevant.
Facing Opetaia does not make the assignment safe. The 35-year-old identified the Australian’s southpaw stance as his chief concern, along with his speed, footwork, and powerful left hand.
Their lead-foot battle will shape the exchanges. Mikaelian must place his left foot outside Opetaia’s right to move away from the straight left and create a lane for his own right hand. Losing that position would leave him following Opetaia and absorbing combinations during his rapid entries.
Crowding Opetaia, tying him up, and forcing him to restart can reduce that speed. The approach may produce an awkward fight, but allowing him to operate freely at midrange would validate the warnings surrounding this matchup.
The champion considers himself Opetaia’s equal and describes them as the two best cruiserweights. He is treating his opponent as a talented southpaw whose aura has grown larger than his record. September 12 will reveal how much of that aura came from marketing and how much was earned in the ring.

Moses Itauma Calls Out Next Opponent After Stunning Loss to Filip Hrgovic

Moses It will hurt suffered a surprising defeat to Filip Hrgovic on Saturday, and the 21-year-old has now revealed who he wants to face upon his return.
Itauma looked to be fulfilling his destiny and dominating his Croatian opponent during the opening rounds at the O2 Arena over the weekend, but his success soon turned to desperation when Hrgovic’s chin held up and his own stamina did not.
An exhausted Itauma eventually collapsed in round nine of the contestwith Hrgovic pulling off a remarkable upset to throw the heavyweight scene a huge curveball, hand Itauma a first career loss and get his hands on the IBF heavyweight world title.
In an interview with talkSPORT Boxingpromoter Frank Warren revealed that Itauma has already asked for a rematch with ‘El Animal’.
“In that last round, he was still firing back. He has got a firing heart, he is a very brave young man, very brave. It’s now about what he does, how he prepares, he is saying to me, ‘can we get the rematch on?’, which is a natural reaction.”
Despite the 21-year-old’s desire to take on Hrgovic for a second time, it seems as though the latter will be made to face Cuba’s Frank Sanchez, who agreed to a step-aside deal to allow Itauma and Hrgovic to fight for the IBF title under the condition that he would face the winner.
Continuing, Warren seemed to confirm that a scrap between Hrgovic and Sanchez will be next, advising Itauma to take some time off before rushing into a second shot at the heavyweight throne.
“I told him, ‘you have got to just switch off from boxing, go and chill out, go and spend some time with your family and then come back, recharge your batteries and then we will get to work again,’
“The landscape is what it is, he is a a part of it, he has shown that he belongs at that level and provided that we learn and he learns some lessons from the fight, I think that he can go on and do some great things.”
In his post-fight interview, newly-crowned IBF champion Hrgovic spoke of his desire for a bout on home soil in Croatia; where he has not fought since 2019.
As a result, Warren may next target Zagreb for a clash between Hrgovic and Sanchez, which should take place within the next six months.
