The Italian boxer Giovanni “Nino” Benvenuti, who won the Olympic gold in Rome in 1960, died on Tuesday at the age of 87, said the Italian Olympic Committee (IOC).

Changing a professional after the Olympic Games, Benvenuti was also a world champion in two different weight divisions in the 1960s.

Born in the Istria region in the contemporary part of Slovenia, Benvenuti won the Olympic half -handed gold for Italy with victory over Yuri Radoniak from the Soviet Union in the final.

The Val Barker trophy was awarded as an outstanding boxer at the 1960 Games – an event in which the American Cassius Clay, later known as Muhammad Ali, won delicate gold in massive weight.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni paid tribute to Benvenuti as an athlete and for speaking for thousands of Italians killed by Yugoslav partisans or exiled at the end of World War II.

“Thanks to Nino for fighting in the ring and for people in defense of the truth. Italy will not forget you,” she wrote in social media.

Benvenuti won the world welterweight title in 1965, when he knocked out Sandro Mazzinghi’s compatriot.

After losing this crown, he moved to the medium scale and defeated the American Emile Griffith at Madison Square Garden in 1967 to win the next world championship title.

Griffith won the rematch later in the same year, but Benvenuti regained the title in 1968 at the third meeting.

The Italian lost his title in 1970, when the Argentinean Carlos Monzon defeated him in Rome.

After retiring, he appeared in several films and remained a familiar face with regular television performances.

The disputed decision of Haney-Lachenko: two years later, still a robbery in the eyes of boxing fans

Two years ago, on May 20, 2023, Devin Haney won the disputed 12-round unanimous decision about Vasily Lomachenko. Many fans were enraged with a much greater victory, who had seen it in favor of Lomachenko. Few fans respected this result.

The judges won it on 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113. Many thought that Haney did not deserve to win, but he received it because of his youth and long career before him. I watched the fight and I had 9-3 for Lomachenko. The judges seemed to be impressed by Haney’s stabs, ignoring the Loma striking combination during the competition.

Haney’s victory

  • A advantage of size: Devin looked massive compared to Lomachenko during the fight, looking like two larger divisions. This is not surprising, because Haney looked like a skinny and hungry appearance during weighing. Fans perceived him as a rascal. Apparently, he resumed to 160 pounds and looked like an average weight inside the ring. His decision on the campaign in 135 instead of in the welterweight, where he should probably fight, was widely criticized. Lomachenko should stay at the age of 126, where he was at its best. Haney should have dominated his unfair advantage, but all night he counted his better technically talented Lomachenko. It is fascinating that Haney waited until 2025 to finally move to the welterweight, where he should have been fighting for years.
  • Robbery result: The fans did not agree with the results of the fight and felt that the judges from Las Vegas gave a resident of Nevada a decisive decision. The score of 8-4 of Judge Dave Moretti in favor of Haney was enraged with many people.
  • Lomachenko’s work ignored: An effective blow that Lomachenko did in a fight seemed to ignore three judges who seemed to tune what he did. Loma Outhout Boxs Haney in every round, but officials did not recognize his work.

Despite the victory, Haney did not receive recognition from fans or the media because of controversy. His victory was contaminated and came out of the fight when someone who was considered preferential treatment. Some fans believe that boxing was looking for a substitute for Floyd Mayweather Jr., so Devin would be protected to create a false star.

Punch stats tell a story

– Devin Haney: connected 110 of 405 shots for 27% connection speed
– Vasiliy Lomachenko: combined 124 out of 564 stamps for 22%

Frank Warren open to the matching of the undefeated Moses Itauma with hefty weight claimant Martin Bakole

Promoter Frank Warren says that he is open to the matching of Moses Itaum with a pretender to heavyweight Martin Bakole. They say that he talked to coach Bakole, Billy Nelson, and said that he wants to wait until the “end of the year” before he fights the undefeated Itaum (11-0, 9 Kos).

Problems with the lasting weight of Bakole

Bakole (21-2-1, 16 KO) must lose weight because it looked grossly from the form during the last two fights with Efe Ajagba and Joseph Parker. He weighed 310 pounds at the start of Parker, which he lost through the knockout of the second round in February last year, and 299 for the previous fight against Ajagba on May 3 in Riyadh.

This fight won a 10-round draw, but many boxing fans thought Ajagba deserved to win. Bakole’s weight is a problem from his best victory over Jared Anderson on August 3 last year on the Turki Alalshikh card in Los Angeles. His previous two fights with Parker and Ajagba were on Turki’s pages.

Some people wonder if the money received by Bakole for fighting on Riyjad seasonal cards led him to overeating. It seemed that he trained challenging in the fight Ajagba, but he dropped only 11 pounds from 310, which he weighed in his previous fight.

If Bakole were in the mid -1980s, because he weighed against Jared Anderson, he could be too substantial for Ituma to cope. Moses 6’2 ″ is a basic idle that loads everything he throws. It is not brisk or crafty like Parker. If the 6’6 ″ bacon is in excellent shape, it can evaporate ituma and reveal it, showing that that’s all smoke and mirrors with him from the very beginning. I suspect. If he were real. The British are sold on it and do not ask why it is not equal to the high level opposition.

Initially, we saw my brother Itauma, Karol iTaumaLook great, rejecting everyone. But when he acted against Veteran Ezequiel Osvaldo Madern, he was blurred. After this failure, this failure is no longer talked about. There would be no shock if Bakole did the same with Moses.

Ituma will fight for the little-known Mike Balogun (21-1, 16 KO) on Saturday, May 24, at SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. This fight will take place at Undercard of Josh Taylor vs. Ekow Essuman, live in Dazn.

The path of the title of the world Ituma

“He returned to the action, fighting with Mike Balogun from the States. He needs this fight and keeps the ball and continue,” said Promoter Frank Warren Boxing TalkSport About the hefty Moses Itaum. “If it goes through it, I expect it to be in a great fight and I expect that he will soon fight for the title of world champion.”

We hope that Ituma will be adapted to a talented opponent before he fought for the title of world champion. His opposition was terrible throughout his entire career, preventing him from finding out if he was good. He is matched like his brother, Karol, was before exposure as false. Moses can also be false.

The last four opponents of Ituma

– Demesey McKean: a loss with a knockout and a long release
-Mariusz Wach: 45-year-Venerable
– Ilja Mezencev: Who is this person?
– Dan Garber: No words

“Yes, I told him, I would have it in the blink of an eye. Billy Nelson sent me an SMS, saying that they would like to wait and do it at the end of this year,” said Warren about Ituma potentially fighting with a claimant to the heavyweight of Martin Bakole.

Floyd Schofield Sr. explains the decision to reject the fight of Abdullah Mason in favor of an agreement worth $ 5 million

Image: Floyd Schofield Sr. Explains the Decision to Decline the Abdullah Mason Fight in Favor of a $5 Million Golden Boy Deal

Floyd Schofield Sr. He started to social media to explain why his son did not accept the agreement with Abdullah Mason. Papa Schofield claims that they received a 5-year contract worth $ 5 million from Golden Boy. He states that the choice consisted of agreeing $ 1 million for Mason’s fight, or take a 5-year contract from Golden Boy. They went with the latter.

$ 5 million Golden Boy Deal

“I thought I would ask about the fight for children-maason. Number 1, we want to fight [Abdullah] Mason anyway, we will fight Mason, according to Golden Boy and them “, Floyd Schofield Senior Warrior. “But Golden Boy has other plans. Mason offered us a million dollars. Their team offered us a million dollars to fight, but Golden Boy offered us a five -year offer for $ 5 million.”

I wonder if the manager Schofield recommended not to take this contract? He could probably get a much larger offer if he fought Mason and defeated him.

“Guaranteed five years of employment. We guarantee that we will soon fight for the title. What would you choose? Greg Hackett said:” You lifted $ 2.5 [million]. ‘No, because I had $ 5 million on the table, and the team that offers it says: “No.” So I had a choice. Are we going on this side for $ 1 million or are we going on this side for $ 5 million? “

This suggests that Schofield Sr. He did not trust his son’s ability to defeat Abdullah Mason. Signing a long -term contract with a golden boy for this amount is a red flag that was not faith. If you think he can win, you let him take this fight, because defeating Mason would send Schofield’s supplies through the roof.

“ThE $ 5 million is just a minimum. That’s not even all. So you can believe what you want, “said Schofield Sr. with a 5-year Golden Boy agreement on Floyd SR.” I don’t like to put business there, but I thought I cleaned the rumors. Nobody is afraid of Mason. We are eagerly waiting for the fight against the Mason. We shared the rings with him. “

Breaking the contract

Let’s break this offer. If you think Schofield will fight three times a year, he only earns 333 thousand. USD for fighting. This is not a good opportunity. Floyd Sr. It would be better to take part in a transaction worth $ 1 million for the fight of Abdullah Mason, because his value would augment if he won. Of course, if Papa Schofield did not believe that his son could overcome Mason, he made sense why he rejected the offer.

“Our next opponent is good in June. This is a test. I can’t say who it is, but this is a good fight here. Freshly from the bench. This is our first fight since November. If this is not a step forward, I don’t know what to say.

Fans don’t expect much from Golden Boy to Schofield. After Floyd Jr. He performed in his last fight with Rene Tellez Giron in November last year, Golden Boy does not intend to put Schofield with anyone with a pulse. The icing on the cake was his withdrawal in the last second with a mysterious disease of fighting with the lightweight champion WBC Shakur Stevenson in February last year.

“Haters are still hate. I love it. And we have Schofield. Oh, it’s amazing. It’s so humorous,” said Floyd Ser.
