Manny Pacquiao reacts to son Jimuel’s draw in pro debut

Thirty years after making his professional debut in the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao sat down Saturday evening in Temecula, California, to watch his 24-year-old son Jimuel do the same.

Manny’s first fight ended with a four-round points victory over Edmund Enting Ignacio. but Jimuel had to settle for a draw with fellow debutant Brendan Lally.

Their lightweight fight featured in Manny Pacquiao Promotions’ American debut at Pechanga Resort Casino, which was headlined by middleweight Lazaro Lorenzana, defeating veteran Luis Arias.

The Pacquiao-Lally match was a story of two halves: Pacquiao won the first two rounds, and Lally won the last two.

Speaking later with former world champion Shawn Porter, Jimuel gave his reaction to the fight.

“In my head I thought, bite down and stay there with him, and you know, just try to get through him.”

However, his father was more forthright in his assessment.

“He can fight again. But I have to make sure I supervise his training. I don’t want this to happen again. He needs to improve his instincts and focus on his opponent.”

Time will tell if Jimuel will fight again, but the former amateur said he was glad he got to experience being a pro fighter.

“It’s good because if something like this happens again in my next professional fights, I’ve already experienced it and I know what to expect.”

As for Manny’s fighting future, he is expected to return to fighting in early 2026 after drawing with WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in July.
