George Liddard became the youngest-ever British and Commonwealth middleweight champion after stunning Kieron Conway with a masterful tenth-round stoppage victory.

Conway i Liddard faced at York Hall, Bethnal Green.

Northampton native Conway (23-4-1, KO7) won the vacant Commonwealth crown last November with a split decision victory over Ryan Kelly, then added the vacant British title by defeating Gerome Warburton in four rounds in May.

“Billericay Bomber” Liddard (13-0, KO8) was a British title qualifier in his last competition in May, defeating Aaron Sutton three times en route to a fifth-round stoppage victory.

Liddard started with authority and the first round showed him some eye-catching action, but Conway remained patient, although his eye showed signs of damage by the second round as Liddard became increasingly better at handling the exchanges.

The opposition was well on top and Conway had to take punches to fend off his own, and midway through the match Conway started to get more involved but was again met with the same from Liddard who was dominating the competition.

Conway had a respectable eight, but complained to his corner that his hand was damaged at the end of the frame, and by the middle of the ninth hold the champion was weakened as his challenge began to unravel.

Conway was unable to defend as his shoulder and hand problems worsened, and the towel came out of his corner to protect him from further punishment in the tenth set.

Jimmy Sains vs. Troy Coleman

Undefeated middleweight prospect Jimmy Sains (11-0, KO10) won the vacant English and Commonwealth silver titles, forcing Troy Coleman (14-4-1, KO6) to withdraw after four rounds of fighting during their meeting.

Sains dominated and landed some killer shots, and Coleman and his corner saw enough tardy in the fourth quarter to save the Midlander for another day.

Chloe Watson vs. Shannon Ryan

A grotesque eye injury caused by a headbutt curtailed Chloe Watson’s (8-2, KO0) challenge in her fight for the vacant IBF Intercontinental super flyweight title against Shannon Ryan (10-1, KO1), and the fight was called off after four rounds with Watson’s eyes fully closed.

The fight ended in a technical decision, with Ryan winning 40-36.

Undercard remaining

Taylor Bevan (6-0, KO6) continued his perfect record in eight-round fights, and the super middleweight earned a fifth-round stoppage against Slovak Lukas Fernez (6-4, KO3).

Middleweight hope Emmanuel Buttigieg (10-0, KO3) improved his impeccable record, overcoming a cut and triumphing 79-73 in a match against Malta’s Christian Schembri (27-13-1, KO11).
