Justin Gaethje brushes off Ilia Topuria cheating accusation amid rematch talk: ‘That’s not the way to do it’

Justin Gaethje isn't impressed with Ilia Topuria's attempts to discredit his UFC White House win while angling for a rematch.

On Wednesday, Topuria released a statement on social media, first declaring he is healthy and ready to compete again and then accusing Gaethje of having loaded gloves when they fought this past June. Gaethje defeated Topuria via knockout when Topuria was unable to get off the stool for the fifth round, handing “El Matador†his first loss and taking his lightweight title.

Gaethje fired back, calling Topuria's accusation “a lame excuse,†but overall appears to be taking the comments in stride.

“Nope,†Gaethje told Joy Of Everything when asked if he had any further response for Topuria. “No, I'm just enjoying being the champ.â€

“People don't believe that,†he added. “I've done that to everybody's face that I've fought.â€

Following his loss to Gaethje, Topuria was left with facial fractures that put an uncertain timetable on his return to competition. The former two-division titleholder now targets a second dance with Gaethje, who expects his next title defense to take place in early 2027.

Should the UFC make the call for Gaethje vs, Topuria 2, the lightweight champion is all for it.

“We'll see,†Gaethje said. “Time will tell. Am I willing to? I just beat the shit out of him, of course, I would.â€

Prior to this week, Topuria had never said a word about any potential skullduggery at UFC White House, so Gaethje understands this might just be Topuria stirring up rematch talk. If that's the case, Gaethje thinks he can do better.

“That's not the way to do it,†Gaethje said.

McGee is proud of his final
Ultimate Fighting Championship appearance.

McGee's final bout came against Eric Nolan
at UFC

Court McGee reflects on his final UFC fight after 16 years in
the promotion

McGee released a statement addressing his retirement. He is proud
of his final UFC fight despite the loss. After 16 years in the UFC,
McGee said he finally took it all in leading up to his farewell
bout. “The Crusher†also paid tribute to 13 coaches and training
partners he lost along the way.

“Saturday night was my last fight in the UFC,†McGee posted on X.
“16 years. 29 fights, including my time in the Ultimate Fighter
house. One hell of a journey. I didn't get my hand raised, but I'm
incredibly proud of my performance, proud of my opponent, and
genuinely happy for him. For the first time, I was able to slow
down and truly experience it all—the weeks leading up to the fight,
fight week, the walk to the Octagon, and everyone who's been beside
me through the highs and lows. Including the 13 coaches and
training partners we've lost. RIP. I gave this sport everything I
had. Sometimes my best was great. Sometimes it was just okay.
Saturday night, I was okay—and okay is good enough for me. I'm
grateful for the wins, the losses, the lessons, the people, and
every damn moment in between. What a journey. Thank you.â€

McGee (22-15) won Season 11 of “The Ultimate Fighter†in 2010,
earning a UFC contract. He overcame addiction before beginning his
professional mixed martial arts career.
