Joshua Batsi signed a contract with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions in a significant move, which places the former bronze Olympic medalist back to the tracks regarding the competition for the title of world champion.
32-year-old lithe heavyweight, which previously maintained the momentary WBO crown, joins Warren’s expansion in a promotional agreement that will see him to Dazna both in the country and international arena.
Batsi, currently 19-1 (13 KO), suffered his first defeat in his career in February, when he lost to Callum Smith in a bruise battle, many are tilting to the distinctions of Fight of the Year in 2025.
Despite the loss of Buatsi supplies, they remained firm, and his return is now entirely in motion under the Queensberry banner.
“After talking to many promoters, Queensberry has a plan with which I feel comfortable,” said Buatsi. “There is nothing like a fight in front of a home crowd – energy, passion, it drives me.
“Thanks to Queensberry, I have a team that understands this, and actually supports me here in Great Britain. At the same time, their international links mean that I can still make movements in the US and all over the world.”
Batsi from Croydon captured his momentary WBO title in 2024 with victory over the space over Willy Hutchinson on Undercard Joshua vs. Dubois at the Wembley stadium.
It happened only seven months after Dan Azeez gave his first career defeat to unite British and European heavyweight titles.
Promoter Frank Warren is convinced that Batsi will be a central figure in a widely opened division, when the masters begin to rotate after the expected ending of the Bivol Vs Beterbiev trilogy.
“Lightweight weighty scales have so much quality, and Josh will be the main applicant in the division,” said Warren.
“There is also a fight for the title of World Benavidez vs Yarde in Riyadh, and Josh will be a natural candidate for the winner.
“In the meantime we will activate Josh – something he didn’t like in recent years – and we will build the impetus needed for the main fights.”
CV Batsi also includes victories over Liam Conroy, Craig Richards and a number of international opponents who helped to establish him as one of 175-pound rivals in Great Britain.
Moving to Dazn under Queensberry means a significant reset, and Batsi is now in place for regular activity and future title shots, when the lithe heavyweight scene begins to change.
