Jon Jones would only fight Oleksandr Usyk on one condition: "I think the world knows what would happen if we were locked in the same room"

Don't expect Jon Jones to ever go one-on-one with Oleksandr Usyk unless an unlikely condition is met.

Jones is considered by many to be the greatest MMA fighter of all time, while Usyk has built his legacy in the boxing world as a future lock for the International Boxing Hall of Fame. “Bones†and Usyk have earned multiple world titles in their respective sports, but could the two ever be standing across each other for a mega fight?

You may not want to hold your breath for it, as Jones was asked by Ring Magazine if a boxing match with Usyk could come to fruition. The former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight titleholder dismissed such a bout unless it was contested under MMA rules.

“No, not at all,†Jones said. “Usyk is Usyk, man. He's one of the absolute GOATs of heavyweight boxing. I also am aware that he does wrestling, and that wrestling has been a heavy part of his training for many years. It's probably why he's so dominant in the clinch. If he'd like to test his total combat skills, I would oblige him in that, but to handicap myself by only using my hands, that's not the world that I come from.

“Out of all the heavyweight boxers, I do see Usyk having the highest potential in making it competitive. I am no boxer, and I don't really consider Usyk to be a complete fighter. I think the world knows what would happen if we were locked in the same room, and I'll just leave it at that.â€

Jones continues to mull over a possible return to the Octagon. He has given different answers on his fighting future depending on the interview. “Bones†has said that he gets fulfillment simply coaching rising heavyweight and Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson, but he's also open to a fight offer from the UFC brass.

As for Usyk, he recently stunned boxing fans and pundits by deciding to vacate his heavyweight titles. While Usyk isn't retiring just yet, he relinquished his gold to open the door for other bouts.

UFC Vegas 120 on Aug. 8 at Meta Apex in Las Vegas. Asplund is
coming off a loss to Vitor
Petrino in his sophomore UFC outing this past March and has
left no stone unturned in preparation this time around.

Asplund admits that losses feel like the end of the world to him.
“Concrete†vowed to himself after his last defeat that he would
never have to question himself again about giving maximum effort in
preparation. The 28-year-old recently revealed that he has invested
in a home gym so he can be in better shape for his upcoming
bout.

“This time I have invested in myself,†Asplund said in a recent
interview. “I bought a home gym, I put a ton of dumbbells in my
garage, an Airdyne bike and squat rack… I never want to feel that
way again. These losses feel like death to me. I don't show my face
after a loss… This sh*t is like death. I don't just want to win. I
want to be champion someday. I dwelled on it, I thought about it a
lot and I came to an understanding and I made an agreement with
myself that I'm never going to ask myself if I could have done more
before I fight again. This fight I know I could not… I have done
everything I can.â€

Both Asplund and Pat are 1-1 in the UFC coming off losses. The
former is eager to make quick work of his Brazilian counterpart and
return to the win column.

“I'm going for a first-round KO. Heavy pace, lots of strength,
heavy elbows, swarm him.â€

Cole Miller doesn't see the need to deviate from his usual
strategy for his upcoming bout in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Miller is scheduled to fight Billy Goff
in a welterweight bout at
UFC Vegas 120 on Aug. 8 at Meta Apex in Las Vegas. The jab has
long been the weapon of choice for the 6-foot-2 Miller. He plans to
use his range as he typically does and pick apart Goff from a
distance.

Miller admits that he has to be careful when reacting to Goff's
level changes and making sure that he is not backed up against the
fence.

“I'm gonna use [my height] as I always have, have people fight at
the end of my jab,†Miller said in a recent interview. “Stick ‘em
till they drop. I just need to be able to potshot a little bit.
Have them at the end of my punches and make sure my back isn't
against the fence. And just be able to react when he shoots and
level changes.â€

Miller (7-0) finished Adam Fugitt
in a first-round buzzer-beater in his UFC debut this past January.
The undefeated 26-year-old feels the time away has already been too
long and wants a quick Octagon return. His opponent, Goff (9-4),
enters the matchup needing a win after dropping his last two bouts
following his UFC debut victory in 2023.

Ruffy claims he isn't feeling any pressure following the
announcement of the lightweight booking and vows to hunt for a
knockout win over “Ahalkalakets†in the UFC 331 co-headliner. As he
did with his last bout, Ruffy's training camp will soon commence in
Australia under the guidance of Alexander
Volkanovski.

“Winning this fight takes us straight to the title,†Ruffy said on
his Instagram Stories in Portuguese. “And that's it; let's go and
give it our all. I don’t feel pressure at all. I feel privileged,

knockout… I don’t want to leave the octagon without that result.
I'm leaving now. I'm going to Australia to do the full camp

Ruffy (14-2) has finished five of his six UFC wins so far and has
only lost to Benoit St.
Denis inside the Octagon. The 30-year-old is coming off
finishes over Rafael
Fiziev and Michael
Chandler. Meanwhile, Tsarukyan is on a five-fight win streak,
10-2 in the UFC and finished Dan Hooker in
his last bout.
