Jacob Solis returns on Saturday against Jeremy Ramos at Tropicana Atlantic City

Published

on

Middleweight Jacob Solis from Recent York is back. The 34-year-old, 6-foot-8 fighter, who has been out of the ring since last spring, passed a medical and returns to Tropicana Atlantic City on Saturday with a record of 7-0-1 and six knockouts. At the gala presented by Boxing Insider Promotions, he will face veteran Jeremy Ramos (14-16, 4 KO).

A record built on downtime

Solis turned professional on December 16, 2023, stopping Tevin Terrance in the third round at Sony Hall in Manhattan and steadily gaining ground for seven wins before his record was tied. Six of his eight professional appearances ended before the final bell, including a particularly acute showing against Brandon Martinez, whom he lost to three times in the first round and then placed in the second.

He described his development as a warrior in BoxingTalk profile ahead of the December 2024 fightnoting that as an amateur he was a skillful, defensive boxer who became a more aggressive, power-oriented fighter as a professional. It is managed by Marty Hopwood of TMA Management.

Absence

Solis was sidelined after suffering an injury during an unsanctioned BoxRaw and Ring Magazine sparring exhibition in Brooklyn last July. The event took place without a referee or medical supervision, and he was hit with illegal blows to the back of the head. As a precaution, he underwent a full neurological evaluation before he was allowed to return.

Task for Saturday

Ramos is a professional with 14 fights and four knockouts to his name – he is a tough veteran who will give Solis a credible test upon his return. A dominant performance would restore the momentum that Solis maintained in the early part of his professional career and set the stage for more competitive assignments to come.

He is 34 years aged and still has an unblemished record in the win column. Saturday will be the beginning of what comes next.

Janibek Alimkhanuly Shifts Perspective on Hamzah Sheeraz: A New Dynamic in Boxing

Published

"Janibek Alimkhanuly Shifts Perspective on Hamzah Sheeraz: A New Dynamic in Boxing"

Janibek Alimkhanuly spent months trying to get Hamzah Sheeraz into the ring. Now that Sheeraz has vacated his WBO super middleweight title, Janibek is asking fans to stop saying the former champion ran from him. That is generous. It also leaves Janibek with less to say about a fight he wanted badly.

Janibek’s tone has changed since the purse bid. He was eager to fight, said money was not his priority, and publicly pushed Sheeraz to accept. Queensberry then bid $1,001,809 to stage the ordered defense, beating Top Rank’s $820,000 offer. Sheeraz’s 75 percent share would have been roughly $751,000. Days later, he gave up the belt.

That sequence deserves a closer look. Queensberry put a serious number on the fight, so the bid itself cannot be dismissed as proof that nobody valued it. But winning the right to promote a title defense means little to fans when the champion vacates before it happens.

Sheeraz has objected to Janibek receiving a mandatory shot after his failed drug test. He is entitled to explain that position. Fans are equally entitled to ask why the issue reached a purse bid before he surrendered the title. Janibek’s post supplies no answer.

Perhaps Janibek sees no benefit in branding Sheeraz a coward. Doing so would also make the opponent he chased sound less valuable. Calling Sheeraz a great fighter preserves the idea that this was an important contest, even after the belt and the fight slipped away.

The respect between them may be sincere. Janibek still gets no Sheeraz fight, and Sheeraz no longer has to defend his title against Janibek. A friendly photo does not change either result.
