Boxer Imane Khelif has pledged to undergo all necessary testing procedures to compete in the 2028 Olympics, after revealing she had undergone hormone therapy. The Algerian athlete sparked widespread debate in Paris 18 months ago when she secured gold amid ongoing controversy over her gender qualifications.
The IOC confirmed that Khelif had met all entry requirements for the games. With World Boxing currently implementing sexual testing protocols, the 26-year-old has pledged to complete all required tests to guarantee her participation in the upcoming Games in the United States.
Khelif also revealed that she underwent hormone therapy before winning gold in France.
Donald Trump called Khelif a “boxer” who “transformed” and “stole the women’s gold medal” by competing in Paris. The president stood his ground and called Khelif a “man” during a January speech after signing an executive order titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports.”
In an interview for a French publication TeamKhelif replied: “I have female hormones. People don’t know this, but I took hormone medications to lower my testosterone levels before competitions.
“I am surrounded by doctors, a professor follows me. For the qualifying tournament for the Paris Games, which took place in Dakar, I lowered my testosterone level to zero and won the gold medal.
“If I have to pass the test, I will do it at the next Olympics. I have no problem with that. I have already passed the test.”
“I contacted World Boxing, sent them my medical records, hormonal tests, everything. But I didn’t receive any response. I’m not hiding, I’m not refusing tests.”
Khelif found herself at the center of controversy during her triumph in Paris, and in 2024 she filed a criminal complaint over social media comments that included JK Rowling and Elon Musk. However, French law prevented either of them from facing charges over their comments.
“I’m not trans, I’m a girl,” Khelif repeats. “I was raised as a girl, I grew up as a girl. The people of my village always knew me as a girl.”

The 2028 Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles and will start on July 14. A significant change in boxing has already been confirmed ahead of the Games.
Last April it was revealed that an additional weight class would be introduced to the women’s competition to match the men’s competition, bringing the total to 14 medal events.
Khelif previously fought in the welterweight division, where she defeated China’s Yang Liu. She has already confirmed that she will change weight categories before the 2028 Games.
She said: “Due to the change in weight classes, I have to fight at 70 kg. In Paris I won at 66 kg, but I don’t think this enhance will be tough for me. I am 1.80 m towering and I am learning with the team how best to adapt to the up-to-date division.”
Khelif stated that she hoped Trump would be the person to award her a gold medal in Los Angeles in two years, and reacted sharply to his comments.
She added: “I respect everyone and I respect Trump because he is the president of the United States. Trump cannot distort the truth. I am not trans, I am a girl. I grew up as a girl, I grew up as a girl, people in my village always knew me as a girl.”

June 23, 2026
On Wednesday, Lewis Crocker heads to Australia to defend his IBF welterweight world title against Liam Paro for the first time.
Crocker will face Paro at the Pat Rafter Arena in Queensland, live on DAZN in the UK and Kayo Sports in Australia.
Crocker (22-0, 11 KO) became world champion in September, defeating Paddy Donovan twice before winning the rematch by split decision.
Man from Belfast recorded his second victory over Donovan after the first victory in March last year, and his rival was disqualified for hitting him after the bell.
Paro (27-1, 16 KO) is trying to become a world champion in two weight categories, having previously reigned in the super-lightweight division.
The 30-year-old won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Subriel Matias in Puerto Rico before winning the belt in his first defense against Richardson Hitchins.
The Australian has since won twice, overtaking David Papot in his last appearance in September.

McKean meets Taliva
Heavyweight Demsey McKean will look to continue his rebuild when he faces Liam Talivaa for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific title.
McKean (24-2, 16 KO) had his career cut miniature after a last-round loss to Filip Hrgovic, followed by a brutal first-round loss to Moses Itauma.
The 35-year-old southpaw returned to winning ways with back-to-back stoppage victories.
Talivaa (8-2, 4 KO) last won the IBF Oceania-Orient title, defeating Faiga Opelu by first-round stoppage.
Undercard remaining
At cruiserweight, Luke Modini (13-0, 11 KO) will likely need distance to beat Peng Qu (17-2-1, 12 KO), while Riley Candy (8-1, 5 KO) could stop Nathan Watson (11-3, 3 KO) at super middleweight.
Vegas Larfield (13-1, 9 KO) can hand Shamal Ram Anuj (11-8, 8 KO) his fourth defeat in a row in a featherweight clash.
Heavyweight Nelson Asofa-Solomon (2-0, 2 KO) can secure a third straight knockout over debutant George Burgess, and Stevan Ivic (8-0-1, 2 KO) can do the same against Caleb Tialu (3-7, 3 KO), also a heavyweight.
Prospective super welterweight fighter Jack Javed (1-0) should overtake Lance McDonald (1-5-1, 1 KO).
