Gervonta Davis sends ‘proposal’ to undefeated rival for a comeback fight: ‘It could happen soon’

Gervonta Davis sending ‘proposal’ to unbeaten rival for comeback fight: “It can happen very soon”

After months of uncertainty, Gervonta Davis seems to be getting closer to returning to the ring.

Davis hasn’t fought since a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025, which many felt should have been the case against him after Roach was denied the knockout award.

A planned exhibition featuring Jake Paul was later scrapped because Davis became embroiled in legal troubles, including charges of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping, while arrest warrant and civil proceedings further complicated his return to the ring.

After being named “halt champion” earlier this year, the WBA officially ordered “Tank” to defend his lightweight world title against mandatory challenger Floyd Schofield on May 23, giving both camps until June 22 to reach an agreement before bidding was announced.

While some believed that Davis would vacate the belt because he either wasn’t ready to return or was looking for a bigger name, negotiations are reportedly ongoing. We provide the latest updates, said Schofield’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya Fighting Hub TV that he expects significant progress this week.

“Tom Brown [of TGB] and Eric Gomez from Golden Boy are in talks and we are waiting for a proposal, which should happen in the next few days.

“It’s a fight that Floyd has always wanted. I believe that Tank Davis will be very motivated to organize this fight. It’s a great fight. People saw Floyd fight, he did very well and surprised a lot of people. It’s a natural fit for him. The fact that the WBA ordered this fight and we can organize it very quickly is music to my ears. It’s one of those fights that the fans will really fall in love with.”

Schofield has become one of the top youthful lightweights in the sport. The undefeated 23-year-old, known as “Kid Austin,” has a record of 19-0 with 13 knockouts and most recently stopped former world champion Tevin Farmer in a round.

He was expected to challenge Shakur Stevenson for the world title last year before illness forced him to withdraw during fight week, but he has since climbed to No. 1 in the WBA rankings and now finds himself on the verge of the biggest opportunity of his career.

Tyson Fury Raises Doubts on Potential Anthony Joshua Fight: "I Can Never See Him Taking That"

Tyson Fury has raised serious concerns over his proposed showdown with Anthony Joshua.

After over a decade of build-up, Fury and Joshua finally look set to meet later this year, provided that both men can first come through their respective warm-up bouts this weekend.

Fury takes on Mariusz Wach in Thailand on Friday, before Joshua then meets Kristian Prenga in Saudi Arabia 24 hours laterseemingly paving the way for the all-British showdown at the end of 2026.

‘The Gypsy King’ still doesn’t seem convinced that it will happen though, as he shared his doubts whilst speaking to IFL TV.

“Until that fight happens and we’re walking to the ring, I’m not convinced it does. 100% [I’m doubtful].

I can never see that stiff sitting on a table with me ever. What the f**k is he going to say? I can never see him at a press conference with me, it would be a bombardment. I can never see him taking that.

“He wouldn’t even get in the ring [after the Makhmudov fight]. He s**t himself and sat on a stool outside and didn’t even want to get up and build the fight and make the fight happen when Turki said to us both ‘come on boys let’s do it get in the ring and make it happen.’

“He didn’t want to do it, so how is he going to come face to face with me at a press conference? I think he’s a bottle job, a flapper, a chinless wonder as well.”

Despite Fury’s fears, all signs still point towards the fight taking place later this year, though there still remains a debate over where it will be held.

Two Brits Set for World Title Showdown as Dmitry Bivol Primed to Vacate WBO Belt

"Two Brits Set for World Title Showdown as Dmitry Bivol Primed to Vacate WBO Belt"

Dmitry Bivol looked as if he was ready to move on from a trilogy fight with Artur Beterbiev, but it now seems as though the unified light-heavyweight world champion is ready to run it back with his rival, thus opening the door for two Brits to compete for one of his belts.

Bivol claimed the undisputed light-heavyweight crown in February 2025 when he avenged his defeat to Beterbiev with a majority-decision win, but he soon relinquished the WBC marble – which was then handed to David Benavidez.

After 15 months of inactivity, Bivol returned to action in May to fulfil his IBF mandatory and shake off some ring rust against Germany’s Michael Eifertbut it was then believed that Bivol would proceed with his WBO mandatory and next face Liverpool’s Callum Smith, much to the frustration of Beterbiev.

Yet, in an interview with Ring MagazineBivol’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has revealed that the 35-year-old is instead keen for a third fight with the Russian-Canadian. Therefore, he expects Bivol to vacate the WBO world title in order to make it happen, with Smith likely to rematch Joshua Buatsi for the vacant belt.

“I think it’s unlikely he will defend against Smith. I think Smith will fight Joshua Buatsi for the vacant title. But Dmitry is ready to make the Beterbiev fight.”

Smith decisioned Buatsi on the Beterbiev-Bivol II undercard in a Fight of the Year contender and Smith is yet to fight since, whilst Buatsi was seen as fortunate by some to get the decision when he returned and fought Zach Parker in November.

Smith and Buatsi could be set to top the bill of the second ‘Matchroom vs Queensberry’ event, which will likely take place in November.

Hasim Rahman Declares One Heavyweight as the Greatest Ever: Ali Would Be Too Small for Him

"Hasim Rahman Declares One Heavyweight as the Greatest Ever: 'Ali Would Be Too Small for Him'"

Former world champion Hasim Rahman believes that, in any era of heavyweight boxing, one man would solidify himself at the top of the tree.

‘The Rock’ is best known for his monumental upset victory over Lennox Lewis in 2001when a stunning fifth-round finish saw him claim the WBC and IBF titles.

Before their heavyweight encounter, many had questioned the logic behind Lewis’ training camp in Las Vegas, given that he was to defend his titles in South Africa.

Not only that, but ‘The Lion’ afforded himself little time to adjust to the African nation’s high altitude, with his performance ultimately reflecting a lack of preparation.

Lewis did, however, manage to produce a much improved display in their immediate rematch, reclaiming his titles with a ruthless fourth-round stoppage.

As a result, Rahman has since named his former foe as the greatest heavyweight of all time, above the likes of Muhammad AliJack Dempsey and Rocky Marciano.

Unlike those three all-time greats, Rahman told BBC Radio 5 Livethat Lewis not only possessed impeccable ring intelligence but could also utilise his physical attributes to a much greater extent than others.

“I’m finding it hard to put somebody ahead of him. In any era … I just really don’t know who could beat him.

“[Ali, Dempsey, Marciano…] Those guys were too small. I mean, Ali was too small for George Foreman back then, when he was a smaller version of Big George, so how could he deal with someone like Lennox – who is huge and can move, and can use his distance well?

“I think it’s really unfair to compare eras, but I just don’t know who could deal with that man.”

Lewis was a three-time world heavyweight champion, and up until Oleksandr Usyk repeated the feat in 2024, was the last undisputed heavyweight champion following his win over Evander Holyfield in 1999.

After defeating Rahman, Lewis also scored an eighth-round finish over Mike Tyson and ended his illustrious career by stopping Vitali Klitschko in six rounds.
