Dustin Poirier reveals UFC ‘immediately’ reached out offering help after his public drunkenness arrest

Dustin Poirier is still dealing with the fallout from his very public arrest at an airport in Atlanta back in June but he says the UFC was always in his corner offering support.

The former interim lightweight champion was handcuffed and taken into custody on a public drunkenness charge that is still pending after he was thrown off a flight and ended up getting into an ugly altercation with police officers trying to calm him down. Poirier has since apologized for his behavior and praised the police officers who dealt with him that day.

While Poirier just recently revealed that he's 28 days sober following that incident, he also dispelled any rumors that his former employers at the UFC weren't supporting him in the aftermath of his arrest.

“I mean literally one day after the arrest and all that happened, Hunter Campbell with the UFC reached out to me and asked me what he can do?†Poirier told Yahoo. “The UFC's got my back.

“Anything they can do, anything I need help with, let them know and they're all in. No, the UFC, the company immediately reached out to me and had my back.â€

Poirier says that Campbell, who is the UFC's chief business officer, gave him every assurance that the promotion would help him in any way he needed after the arrest.

While he never disclosed if he actually took the UFC up on that offer, Poirier promises that the support from the promotion was there immediately after his arrest and release on bail.

“I believe his exact words were something along the lines of ‘I can't let somebody who fought for this company for over 15 years, try to handle all this on his own' or something [like that],†Poirier stated. “We have your back. Let us know what you need from us.â€

UFC CEO Dana White recently told MMA Fighting that the promotion has a wellness program similar to the one in WWE to help athletes who need support during or after their fighting careers are over but it's just not something the company publicizes.

Judging by Poirier's comments, the UFC definitely stepped up to offer him support as he dealt with the arrest for public drunkenness.

Hearn was asked about the highly anticipated Fury-Joshua bout after
the Katie Taylor vs. Flora Pili press conference in Dublin,
Ireland, and reiterated that, as per Joshua's contract, there's no
need for Zuffa to get involved.

“No, or else there will be no fight and we'll just keep going,â€
Hearn said at a media scrum captured by Bloody Elbow. “You have to
understand, right? AJ is one of my closest friends; AJ is a
shareholder of Matchroom. So, I know the narrative run by Tyson
Fury is, ‘Oh, Eddie's ego…' No, no, no. We are a team, and AJ will
say to me, ‘Why are they involved?' I said, ‘Exactly, so are you OK
with them not being involved?' He says, ‘Yeah.'â€

Hearn also insists that the exclusion of White and TKO is not
simply his personal preference.

“So, the responses in the addendum are not ‘Eddie Hearn's wishes';
they're Anthony Joshua's wishes,†Hearn added. “The addendum
doesn't have to include ‘still no Dana' because that is in the
original contract. The addendum is just changes.â€

his upcoming opponent as a “big challenge,†given Hooker's 12-year

especially considering his Kiwi counterpart's aggressive fighting
style.

“Dan Hooker is very strong, very experienced,†Parnasse said at UFC
Paris media day. “That’s why he is at the top of the UFC and I
think he is a big challenge and I love this challenge. I think he
is a very explosive guy who likes to do a lot in his fights. And I
think that with me, it’s a perfect fight because we are both two
guys who like to go out there and put on a great show in the
cage.â€

Parnasse enters the bout riding a five-fight winning streak, with
his last win coming on
Most Valuable Promotions' inaugural mixed martial arts event.
Meanwhile, Hooker is looking to rebound from consecutive losses to
top-ranked lightweights Benoit St.
Denis and Arman
Tsarukyan.

Championship, where she won and defended the muay thai
strawweight title.
