Ben Shalom and Shane McGuigan react to Azim’s victory

May 31, 2026
Adam Azim returned to action last night, stopping Steve Claggett, and both Ben Shalom and Shane McGuigan shared their thoughts on the performance.
McGuigan and Shalom agreed on the levels Azim could reach.
Last night, ‘The Killer’ made his first appearance since last November when he defeated Kurt Scoby in the rematch between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr.
The Briton dominated before stopping Scoby in the final round.
He faced Claggett and made brief work of his opponent, dropping him in the second round before forcing the referee to step in in the third.
Claggett was expected to be a real test for Azim. He had not been stopped for over 11 years before the fight and in 2024 he went the distance of Teofimo Lopez for the world title.
After the victory, Azim’s promoter spoke on the BBC broadcast.
Shalom has been working with the 24-year-old since his second professional fight after an illustrious amateur career.
“It was ridiculous, the way he put Steve Claggett together.
“He [Azim] he beats every fighter in the 140 division.
“It was phenomenal.”
Azim is high in the rankings of many governing bodies as he looks to secure a shot at winning the world title before the end of the year.

Adam Azim Rankings with Major Governing Bodies
- IBF: 7th
- WBA: No ranking
- WBC: 9
- WBO: 7
- Ring magazine: 9
His coach, McGuigan, shared a similar view to Shalom i revealed the heights he believes in Azim can reach.

“I don’t think he’s just going to win the world title, he’s going to unify.
“He will become a world champion in many weight classes.”
One champion Azim continues to be linked to is long-time rival Dalton Smith, who currently holds the WBC junior welterweight title.
Smith defeated Subriel Matias to win the belt in January via fifth-round TKO.

Azim was asked about the fight with the Sheffield man and he shared his thoughts.
“I’ll win the belt first and then we’ll talk about Dalton Smith.
“I would fight him tomorrow if I had to.”

O’Shaquie Foster vs. Raymond Ford – results and post-fight report

At the Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas, O’Shaquie Foster defended his WBC super featherweight title with a twelve-round majority decision victory over Raymond Ford.
Ford’s only loss before the Foster fight came to Nick Ball in 2024.
Since regaining the WBC belt in the rematch With a decision victory over Robson Conceicao in November 2024, Foster (25-3, KO12) was seen in the ring just once, winning the WBC interim lightweight crown with a wide points victory against Stephen Fulton in San Antonio in December 2025.
Ford (18-2-1, KO8) has won three times since losing the 2024 WBA crown to Nick Ball, all in ten rounds, with his last victory over Abraham Nova in August last year.
The opening round was eventful this round, with Foster attacking and then throwing Ford out of the ring at the end of the frame.
Ford recovered well from the shock and delivered a decisive combination in round two, and although Ford went on the attack in round three, Ford responded well, working to good effect on the head and body.
Foster landed multiple punches, and Foster landed a decent uppercut in the fifth round and some good counters in the sixth.

The champion was starting to take control, much more energetic and attacking than his opponent, and in round eight Ford was overworked as Foster landed several combination shots.
Entering the championship rounds, Ford stopped the rot with a solid ten, landing a counter right hook and attacking the body well.
This proved to be a false dawn, as in the penultimate session Foster landed a huge left hook that rocked Ford to his knees, and he kept increasing the pace until the final bell.

The drawn score of 114-114 was overturned by scores of 118-110 and 116-112 as Foster defended his title and immediately summoned Shakur Stevenson to a meeting later this year.
Undercard remaining
In the ten-round action on the undercard, Charlie Sheehy (13-0, KO8) remained undefeated, and the super lightweight candidate won in the ninth round over Nike Theran (20-3, KO14).

Javon Woodard Jr (17-2, KO15) also won the distance, defeating Miguel Flores (29-6-1, KO13) three times before ending the fight with a successful knockout in the eighth round.
The only fighter to go eight rounds scored another win for decorated amateur Omari Jones (7-0, KO4), and the super welterweight won all eight frames against Diego Zuniga (9-1, KO6).
In six-round fights, Zaquin Moses (7-0, KO3) won all six rounds of his super featherweight meeting with Travis Crawford (7-7, KO2), and Julian Montalvo (7-0, KO5) won in four rounds against Maximus Moya (3-4, KO2), also in the super featherweight division.

Frank Espinoza (4-0, KO4) forced Bryce Blackwell (4-3, KO1) to retire after three rounds in their middleweight bout, and Jahyden Franklin Britton (9-0, KO6) stopped Najee West (9-3, KO4) in four rounds in their super middleweight bout.

Dmitry Bivol vs Michael Eifert – results and post-fight report

Dmitry Bivol returned home to Russia after over 500 days away from the ring due to an injury in his match against Michael Eifert.
Bivol summed up his best form against Eifert, who won by unanimous decision.
From the first round, Bivol showed no signs of ring rust, despite spending significant time outside the squared circle.
He knocked down Eifert slow in the first round and dominated the early stages of the fight, looking much better and sharper than his opponent.
Instead of forcing a break, the former undisputed lightweight heavyweight champion of the world took his time and put together a patient boxing display that has become the hallmark of a typical Bivol performance.
Towards the end of the fifth round, Bivol began to pick up the pace and continued to punish Eifert, who was having difficulty gaining distance and creating a significant threat.
In the 10th round the situation was very similar. Bivol was riding, and Eifert, despite his brave performance, was unable to trouble the champion.
Bivol applied the pressure in the 11th minute, clearly hurting his opponent with a brutal body shot that slowed down Eifert.
He chased the German around the ring and dominated the action until the final bell.
After a decisive victory, Bivol will now face a more arduous test. Two names stand out for his next fight: Artur Beterbiev to complete his epic trilogyor David Benavidez if he should return to cruiserweight.

After defeating Beterbiev in his second fight, the Russian was forced to undergo back surgery, but tonight he proved that he is still at the top of the sport.
Mukhammad Shekhov vs. Yerny Betancourt
Shekhov made no mistake in the co-main event, defeating Betancourt in 12 rounds.
The Uzbek performed impressively, with all three judges scoring in his favor. The scorecards read 118-110, 118-110 and 119-109.
After a dominant victory, the undefeated fighter will now look to secure a world title shot later this year.

He is highly rated by many governing bodies, ranking eighth in the IBF, third in the WBA and sixth in the WBO.
Undercard remaining
Vadim Tukov extended his undefeated record by defeating Sebastian Horacio Papeschi over 10 rounds. Highly rated in both the WBA and IBF rankings, he will be hoping to earn a shot at the middleweight world title in the near future.
There was controversy after the final bell, with the Argentine challenger appearing surprised that the fight ended after 10 rounds, as several reputable sources described the fight as a 12-round fight.
The scorecards of the three judges twice showed the score 96-94 and 98-92.
For a good start, Nikita Zon easily defeated Nahuel Gonzalo Garcia. Zon eliminated the Argentine in both the fourth and fifth rounds.
The Russian won the WBA gold super middleweight title and did it with relative ease.
