Dave Allen vs. Filip Hrgovic – Gigantic Fight Preview and Predictions
Published
3 weeks agoon
Frank Warren is promoting a Doncaster show for the first time in over thirty years, while Dave Allen is keen to disrupt the odds in his hometown.
Hrgovic will enter the competition as the clear favorite against Allen after his last victory in Saudi Arabia.
“El Animal” heads into the main event looking to burst the bubble of Allen, who is fighting in Doncaster for the first time in over 10 years.
Over the years, Hrgovic has competed at a higher level, with wins over Zhilei Zhang, Dempsey McKean and Joe Joyce.
He last saw action in the Moses Itauma vs. Dillian Whyte match in Riyad, Saudi Arabia.
The Croatian defeated David Adeleye on a huge scorecard, although he faced some adversity in the eighth round when the Briton reacted well after being dropped himself in the earlier round.
During the period in which Hrgovic did not fight, Allen fought twice, the first in October when he faced Tyson Fury’s last opponent, Arslanbek Makhmudov. at the Sheffield Arena.
“The White Rhino” was outscored over 12 rounds, with the three judges scoring him 109-117, 110-116 and 111-115.

Allen returned four months later when he faced French heavyweight Karim Berredjem, whom he handled easily, stopping his fighter with a minute remaining in the first round.
Allen spoke to professional boxing fans after the pair faced off for the first time during fight week and admitted he was the underdog but was joyful for the opportunity.
“I can’t sit here and say I can beat him, but I know I can compete with him.
“You never really know because you might have a one night stand. I just need one night, like when Lucas Browne left his upper body to finish him off.”

“Or [when he won against] Nick Webb, if I hit any of them, it’s game over.
“So I’m going into this with a little more confidence, more confidence than I’ve ever had before.”
Prediction: Hrgovic will have to be at his best to avoid being dragged into the deep end like he was in the eighth round against Adeleye, but he should have enough points to score over the tough Allen.
Michael Gomez Jr. fight with Lee McGregor
Gomez Jr. wastes no time getting back into the ring. Just 46 days after his victory over Jordan Flynn, he returns to fight against the tough Lee McGregor.
He stopped Flynn in the third round of the fight, with the 30-year-old claiming he suffered a broken jaw.
This was Gomez Jr.’s first appearance. since his arrest by Reece Belotti last February.

He will be hoping to build on his recent win against McGregor, who has also fought just once since defeat last year.
McGregor most recently won a points decision over Emiliano Leonel Araujo in his first appearance since being stopped by Nathaniel Collins.
Prediction: Gomez Jr should have enough points to earn points over 10 rounds.
Undercard remaining
Louie O’Doherty and Ahmed Hatim fought challenging in an open training session yesterday and tensions are starting to build between the two undefeated fighters.
They are scheduled to fight for both the British and Commonwealth lightweight titles.

The fight will last 12 rounds. O’Doherty is coming off a 10th-round stoppage win over Regan Glackin, while Hatim won a unanimous decision over Liam Dillon last September.
Prediction: In a real 50-50 fight, O’Doherty could have the points advantage.
Dave Allen’s welterweight fighter, Joe Hayden, returns to action after an impressive second-round stoppage victory over James Atkins after his last fight, during which he won the first belts of his professional career.

He should have more than enough to beat Ryan Frost again in the later rounds, and Frost has defeated his last four opponents.
Exceptional prospects Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev and Kian Hamilton return for the second professional appearance of their careers and both will impress. Each of them should win at the break.
Hull’s Ted Jackson returns to action against Mike Byles and should claim his seventh win since turning professional, while amateur standout Bradley Casey should remain undefeated in the cruiserweight division.
Leighton Birchall should stop Leonardo Baez early in the qualifiers, which will also feature Carl Fail.
Maxi Hughes was scheduled to challenge Lewis Sylvester, but the fight was canceled the week of the fight and “Maximus” withdrew for reasons that have yet to be disclosed.

He also revealed what message he carries in his company and what is most essential to him when promoting events throughout the United States.
“Make something and then show it to as many people as possible. And I’m still doing it, 30 years later.”
He talked about how he believes boxing impacts the lives of individuals, from the fighters themselves to the audience, and why accessibility in sport is so essential.

“Boxing doesn’t just change people’s lives – it changes the way the world sees people.
“That’s the power of boxing.”

The fight card will be on display at the Civic Center and a wide range of tickets will be available, including a free section allowing anyone to watch the fights. Pereira hopes to break the boxing attendance record of 135, 132 set in 1941 by Tony Zale vs. Billy Pryor.
“For me, San Francisco is the story of every single person on that card.
“Boxing is not broken.
“We need to make boxing more open to everyone.
“It’s about affordability. It’s about accessibility.
“That’s why we stick with YouTube. That’s why we stick with TikTok.”

Eddie Hearn believes Tyson Fury lacks confidence ahead of his clash with Anthony Joshua later this year.
Joshua and Fury have signed a deal to face each other in the highly anticipated all-British blockbuster, which is expected to be staged in November.
“AJ” will be there will face the unknown Albanian Kristian Prenga during warm-ups in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on July 25.
Fury, who retired to beat Arslanbek Makhmudov on points in April, is also keen to fight again before facing his long-time rival, with an August 1 date being discussed.
Joshua’s promoter Hearn questions the Morecambe fighter’s decision to fight another fight in the meantime, believing it could signal a lack of faith.
“He’s going to do what he’s going to do,” the 46-year-old said Sky Sports Boxing.
“And if he feels like he needs a good fight, I like that because it tells me he’s not completely confident.
“He shot 12 good rounds with Makhmudov to the point where you really need more rounds?
“He told us, ‘You don’t need another fight.’
“In two years of boxing, we had four rounds with Jake Paul.
“You had 12 rounds with Makhmudov at Tottenham but you still feel you need more rounds to prepare for Anthony Joshua.
“More rounds won’t assist you, because I can see it.
“When Makhmudov came into that fight, I knew what AJ was going to do.”

“AJ” came face to face with Prenga at their stadium first press conference on Monday in London.
The 36-year-old will fight for the first time since he knocked out Jake Paul in the sixth round in December in Miami.

10 days after Paul was arrested, the Watford man suffered minor injuries in a fatal car crash that killed two of his close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, while on holiday in Nigeria.
Joshua has already returned to the training camp in Valencia along with former rival Oleksandr Usyk.
