Bernie’s comment about reading “between the lines” suggests the problems that led to Keyshawn leaving McIntyre. Tim Bradley suggested on his own canal that Keyshawn felt that “BoMac” and the team “weren’t there for him” when he failed to make weight for his fight with De Los Santos, which led to the fight being canceled and him losing his WBO 135-pound title.
Keyshawn has had 10 fights with “BoMac” since joining him in April 2022. The biggest victory of these years was over WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk last February. Fans criticized Keyshawn for turning down a fight with former four-time winner Andy Cruz, who defeated him at the 2020 Olympics. Cuban Cruz had a 4-0 record against Keyshawn in amateur competition.
“It’s a business. I think he’s a superstar. I don’t have to say much. The kid said it all. If you can read between the lines, you can understand what’s going on,” said coach Bernie “Tha Boxer” Davis MillCity Boxingdiscussing Keyshawn Davis’ decision to part ways with coach Brian “BoMac” McIntyre.
If Keyshawn expected “BoMac” to pay a lot of attention to him and he didn’t, that would be a good reason for him to go in a different direction, to a different coach. It is unclear how much time “BoMac” spent training other fighters such as Terence “Crawford”. Having him as one of your players would be a waste of time.
– I don’t know why kid [Davis] I decided to go a different route because I know Bo didn’t give up on him,” Bernie said.
Keyshawn says he has a completely different team working with him. He doesn’t say who they are, but he seems ecstatic for now. He is with his friend, or “brother”, Shakur Stevenson.
“We are responsible for what we do. If you look at the actions of the team and others, you can start from there. I’m still a fan of Keyshawn. I think he’s a superstar. I wish him the best. Because he’s a diplomat,” Bernie said about “BoMac” choosing not to speak out about the circumstances that led Keyshawn to leave his camp.
Keyshawn currently fights at 140 pounds, but despite 10 months of inactivity, he is still not participating in scheduled fights. He was briefly in negotiations to fight IBF welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins for the Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson event on January 31 at Madison Square Garden in Up-to-date York. However, Keyshawn and Hitchins failed to strike a deal.
